At the 1960 Milan Triennale, Bent Gabrielsen won a gold medal for the design of this necklace and it was put into production by Georg Jensen the same year. Lit.: J. The son of a grocer, he quickly distinguished himself and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture. From 1927-1931 he was Director at Georg Jensen where he designed both flatware, holloware and jewellery. In 2004 she became the first woman to receive the Pritzher Architecture Prize. In addition, she won the Stirling Prize in 2010 and 2011 and was the first and only woman to date to be awarded the Royal Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects. Major examples of her architectural work include the London 2012 Olympic Aquatic Centre, the Guangzhou Opera House in China and the Heydar Aliyev Centre in Baku. Just before her death in March 2016, her collaboration with Georg Jensen was unveiled at Baselworld. She also designed a site-specific sculptural installation at the fair to act as an extension of the jewellery collection. At the time of her death she was widely regarded to be the greatest female architect in the world. 23

He is remembered for a particular style of miniature medallion heads modelled in a new formula of glass paste, making around five hundred portrait medallions of his contemporaries including the rich and famous of Britain. Walter Ewing Maclea (1745-1814) was a merchant in Glasgow. A plaster version of this portrait is in the National Gallery of Scotland. The collection and inheritance of an aristocratic British family. 162 Provenance: The heritage of the family extends to and beyond their direct descendance from Henry VII through his daughter Mary Tudor. The family has lineage from the pinnacle of noble families in England including the Baron St John of Bletso, the Earls of Bolingbroke and the Herbert family, the Earls of Pembroke. Three generations of the family held senior military posting in the Indian Army in the 19th century at the forefront of the British Empire. Several pieces are understood to have belonged to Lady Victoria Alexandrina Elizabeth Lambton (nee Campbell), whose mother was Lady Sarah Mary Compton Cavendish (1813-1881). Lady Cavendish served as Maid of Honour to Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1842. This collection exemplifies the styles and taste of one of society s premier families over the past centuries and epitomises the best in jewellery design and craftsmanship available. According to family tradition, in 1863, she was a bridesmaid at the wedding of Alexandra of Denmark to the Prince of Wales, the future Edward VII. The Lambton family were direct descendants of Mary Tudor (1496-1533) through her second marriage to Charles Brandon, the first Duke of Suffolk. Mary was the seventh child of Henry VII, and the sister of Henry VIII. Mary was considered Henry's favourite sister and it is likely he named his famous battleship the Mary Rose in her honour. 166 A diamond and enamel locket, 1865 The oval locket with applied rose-cut diamond initials AL to the front, the reverse with the Lambton family motto in blue enamel, the garter motif inscribed with the legend Le jour viendra and a central hand design, suspended from a later pin fitting, locket length 3.5cm, fitted case by Phillips, Cockspur Street, London 350-450 Formerly belonging to Lady Victoria Alexandrina Elizabeth Campbell, likely on the occasion of her engagement to Lieutenant Colonel Francis William Lambton in December 1865. Subsequently, goods may sell at prices lower or higher than the provided estimates. 1.8 Reserves minimum sale price. The reserve will never exceed the low estimate printed in the catalogue. CA Ltd may open the bidding on any Lot below the reserve by placing a bid on behalf of the seller, and may in their discretion continue to bid up to the reserve price. This can be achieved by bidding in response to other bidders or alternatively by placing consecutive bids. bidders register at least 24 hours before the sale. Registration thereafter shall be at the auctioneer s entire discretion. sale and to submit bank details. A deposit may be requested prior to each sale.
