328 Airbrush design for the nails Airbrushing can be used to create many amazing designs on nails using techniques such as freehand, stencilling or creating a colour fade. It is also fantastic for producing perfect French designs which can be completed using a stencil, creating a traditional rounded shape on the free edge or alternative shapes such as Chevron and French designs. You can make your own stencils from paper, lace and frisket. The designs can be easily removed when required and can be completed on natural nails and nail enhancements. It is important to know how to care for your airbrush to gain maximum benefit from it. Airbrush design for the nails Unit 328 245

Some useful words are explained below Acrylic-based paints These contain water but have a high concentration of acrylic and high colour definition. Additional media Decals/embellishments that may be added to enhance a nail art design (such as feathers, lace, fabric, jewels, etc). Airbrushing A method of painted nail art. It uses a compressor and airbrush gun to deliver the paints onto the nail plate. Avant-garde This refers to a style used within nail art that is non-commercial. It is often used within the media industry and for competition work. Colour fade A technique used in airbrushing that fades two or more complementary colours into each other. Compressor The equipment used as the source of air supply when airbrushing nail art. PSI Pounds per square inch this relates to the amount of air pressure expended from the airbrush compressor. Stencil A plastic type sheet which has pre-cut shapes within it that are used to create shapes when airbrushing. Water-based paints These contain acrylic for colour but have a high water content so the colour definition is not as strong; good for beginners. Additional media, such as jewels, can be added to nails. Airbrush design for the nails Unit 328 247

Beverley s passions are nails and make-up: she has worked as an educator delivering nails and make-up training in Athens, Greece, where she also judged a national nails competition. She has also worked as a make-up artist on films using special effects make-up. Beverley is currently a full-time lecturer at Wigan and Leigh College. She is also on the Habia nail services forum. Read on for Beverley s fantastic airbrushing nails quotes! 4 Describe the different consultation techniques used to identify treatment objective 5 Explain the importance of carrying out a detailed nail and skin analysis 6 Describe how to select products, tools and equipment to suit client treatment needs, skin and nail conditions 7 Explain the contra-indications that prevent or restrict airbrush nail treatment 8 Explain how to communicate and behave in a professional manner 9 Describe health and safety working practices 10 Explain the importance of positioning themselves and the client correctly throughout the treatment Continues on next page Many different designs can be created when airbrushing nails.
