The JORVIK Visual Story What you might see When you arrive at JORVIK you may see one of our Vikings on the door. They may look like this one in the photo to the left but don t worry they are not real Vikings, just people dressed up to look like them. If you have booked a time slot you should go to the right hand side of the barriers and the Viking will let you into the Centre. Otherwise you should join our queue on the left hand side and wait to buy a ticket. This is our admissions area with some of our helpful staff dressed in their uniform. This is a busy area with a lot of talking going on. There is also a lift that you can use or you can just use the stairs. Downstairs is our Discover Coppergate gallery. You can use the maps to find lots of fun things under the glass floor, which you can walk on, or ask a Viking to help you. Our toilets are also located in this gallery.

This is the entrance to our ride. Our Vikings will put you on one of our capsules. Let our Viking know if you would prefer to ride on the front or the back seat. Then make sure you select your language. The smiley face button is our commentary for children. If you would prefer not to have the commentary, then you don t have to select a language. It can be quite dark on our ride. If you don t like the dark tell one of our Vikings and they will give you a light.

Our ride is a little bit noisy and smelly. This is to recreate a busy city in Viking times. The ride lasts about 12 minutes. It also has some moving figures on there. None of them are real people though. If you would prefer to miss this bit out then let one of our Vikings know and they will be able to direct you to our other galleries.

This is the end of the ride. Viking will help you get off your capsule. You will enter our Investigate Coppergate gallery. There are some real skeletons in cases. There is also a Viking telling you about artefacts and showing you some real items they found on this site when they dug it up. You might even be able to hold some of them if you ask the Viking.

This is our rtefacts live gallery with lots of things that we dug up from the past on this very site. There are a lot of glass cases. Inside those glass cases are also some talking heads that tell you about the artefacts. The talking heads are just holograms telling you what their characters lives and jobs would have been like in the past.

This is our Viking coin striker. This can be a very noisy job when they strike the coins as they have to hit a die with a hammer to make them. They can tell you all about the coins if you like and show you the real dies in our glass cabinets. This is the End of the Vikings gallery. It has a skeleton in a glass cabinet, and other bones in another glass case. There may also be a Viking in this gallery that can give you a talk about the skeleton and the other weapons in the cases. t this point you can either go upstairs directly to the shop or you can go through the door on the right and go up in the lift. This is a picture of our gift shop which can get very busy at times. If you have any questions then you can ask one of our friendly Retail ssistants, who are also shown in the picture.

What you might smell The Vikings were a very smelly bunch so you might notice that JORVIK smells too. These are the smells you should smell on your journey. Farm yard smells from the animals blacksmith iron smelting woody smell Beef stew Rotting fruit Fish pples nd of course our man on the toilet What you might hear Pigs squealing Vikings talking in a different language on the ride Our talking displays Toki, our little Viking, telling you about JORVIK on the ride School children talking and laughing The mechanical noise of our ride Vikings striking coins with a hammer What you might touch Real items such as Whetstones nimal bones Replica items such as Spindle whirls Helmet Replica comb Horn beaker and spoons Blowing horn Gemstones Materials
