56 WIG MASTER AND DESIGNER This involves coordinating with the producer or director who gives you a responsibility in which how the wig will be designed from. Often the Wig Master and Designer is a Make up Artist too. In the production or media setting there could be production meetings to develop the designs for the wigs and agreed budgets. Wardrobe and Make up are also usually involved in this process, as the total look has to work in all these aspects. Practicalities, for example quick changes, must be taken into consideration, especially in the theatre, so that the wigs don t get ruined and are easy to fit firmly and solidly when the performer has changed costume. The wardrobe department and costume designer will usually work intimately to find ways of changing costumes, so whenever possible garments don t have to be put on or be taken off over the head. The wig master and designer is typically head of the team of wig dressers to guarantee that things run smoothly. Some larger production companies employ the wig master and designer on a permanent basis, where smaller company s offer short term contracts but often use the same people. The Wig Master and Designer whom have both qualification in Hair and Make up may also be responsible for teaching the cast on how to apply their own Make up, so that the team can work on hairstyling, prosthetics and make up on the rest of the cast.
