Hand Hygiene STEP 1 Hand Washing The first step in reducing cross infection. Apart from removing visible soiling from hands, the physical action of good hand washing will remove high levels of bacteria and viruses present on the skin. The 2 soap options below one gel and one foam contain triclosan, a broad spectrum germicide for killing bacteria. Hard Surface Cleaning and Sanitising Hand hygiene is the best method of reducing cross infection from person to person but general hygiene is vital. The cleaning and sanitising of hard surfaces in the medical industry is important. This includes all water washable surfaces including floors, walls, desks, doors, telephones, sinks and furniture. In order to prevent infection outbreaks, it is essential to use a disinfectant that has been tested against a specified strain of MRSA to BS EN 1276. Clostridium Difficile is a spore forming bacterium. This makes it difficult to combat using traditional disinfectants, as spores are able to survive and breed even in harsh conditions. In order to ensure effective control of C.difficile, a sporicidal disinfectant must be used that has been tested to BS EN 13704. The following 4 products are all dilutable with water and can be used for mopping, wiping down surfaces and spray cleaning. VERSAN Kills HIV, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, MRSA, SARS, Influenza A. Tested against BS EN 1276 at a dilution rate of 1:24. FRESH WILD LEMON Kills MRSA and tested against BS EN 1276 at a dilution rate of 1:30. ULTRAFRESH Kills MRSA and C.difficile. Tested against BS EN 1276 and BS EN 13704. Kills at a dilution rate of 1:50. ULTRAVIOLET Kills MRSA. Tested to BS EN 1276 and kills at a dilution rate of 1:40. VERSAN Broad Spectrum Surface Disinfectant for Disease Control - Bactericidal, Fungicidal, Viricidal Medical Hygiene Effective against: HIV(AIDS), T.B, SARS, Hepatitis, MRSA, Influenza A, Herpes viridae, Norovirus. Use on environmental surfaces that will only come into contact with the skin (not inside the body). Surfaces contaminated with blood or bloody bodily fluids or other soiling. Morgues, road traffic accidents, violent incidents, public buildings, public rooms, accidents. Dilution: Normal solution - 1:24, 40ml up to 1 litre with water. Strong solution - 1:4, 200ml up to 1 litre with water. Dilute in plastic containers. Directions: Soiled surfaces must first be cleaned to ensure a thorough disinfection process. For heavy soiling use a quality degreaser such as UBIK 2000. After cleaning, apply a solution of VERSAN to the surface ensuring that the surface is wetted by the disinfectant. Allow 5 minutes contact time. Wash away with potable water, or recover using clean water and a wet suction cleaner. Blood, bloody bodily fluids, apply a strong solution of VERSAN and leave for 10 minutes then remove the spill using a solution of cleaning product. Disinfect using a normal solution of VERSAN. FOR HEPATITIS USE A STRONG SOLUTION. 4
Hard Surface Cleaning and Sanitising ULTRAFRESH Perfumed Cleaner and Disinfectant A neutral daily cleaner and disinfectant with a long lasting pine fragrance. Ultrafresh kills 99.999% of bacteria and is effective against MRSA at a dilution of 1:50 (tested to BS EN 1276 by an independent laboratory). Effective against C. Difficile at a dilution of 1:20 (tested to BS EN 13704 by an independent laboratory). As a neutral product, Ultrafresh is safe for regular use on all hard floors and other water washable hard surfaces. FRESH WILD LEMON Daily Cleaner and Disinfectant An effective daily cleaner and disinfectant with a fresh lemon fragrance. Designed for regular use on all hard surfaces to maintain clean and hygienic conditions. Fresh Wild Lemon cleans, neutralises unpleasant odours and kills 99.999% of bacteria. Tested to BS EN 1276 at a dilution of 1:30 by an independent laboratory. As a neutral product, Fresh Wild Lemon can be used safely on any water washable surface. Kills 99.999% of bacteria (passes BS EN 1276:1997 at 1:30). Neutral - safe on all surfaces. KILLS MRSA. DIRECTIONS Prepare a disinfectant solution by diluting 1 part Fresh Wild Lemon with 30 parts clean water. Can be used stronger if required. Apply using a spray, mop or cloth and wipe clean. 5
