overview Thank you for your interest in exhibiting at the Department of Art. Iniviuals or epartments intereste in sponsoring exhibitions or holing exhibitions in the Olive Tjaen Gallery or in the Experimental Gallery must submit an application for review by the Department of Art Gallery Committee. Proposals for exhibitions can be base on work alreay complete or anticipate work that has yet to be mae. OLIVE TJADEN GALLERY, 101 Tjaen Hall Name in honor of Olive Tjaen Van Sickle, a istinguishe an prolific alumnus of the College of Architecture, Art an Planning, this is the largest of the exhibition spaces locate Tjaen Hall. The space features a single north-facing winow with a sliing panel to close off natural light completely. EXPERIMENTAL GALLERY, 102 Tjaen Hall The Experimental Gallery has a comparably small footprint but has a towering two-story ceiling, visual access from the secon floor an three large southfacing winows. DATES + EXHIBIT SCHEDULE If your application is accepte, the committee will assign ates for the exhibtion base on gallery availablility an the exhibitor s preferre ates. Exhibitions typically run for one week unless an exception is requeste an approve. Installation begins Saturay prior an e-installation shoul be complete by 12 p.m. the Saturay following. Exhibitors are responsible for sourcing materials, tools, an supplies for the exhibit, an proviing a well-thought out plan of installation. A basic set of tools is available to the exhibitor at the time of installation an e-installation, but any extra or unusual tools an materials are the responsibility of the exhibitor to supply. statement of rules + guielines GENERAL INFORMATION The Tjaen galleries are open Monay through Friay from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Any questions, comments, or suggestions shoul be aresse to the aministrative office in the Department of Art at 224 Tjaen Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853, (607) 255-3558. Exhibitors must use the premises solely for the purpose of exhibiting work unless other arrangements are mae with the art office prior to the exhibition ates an the exhibitors agree not to use the gallery for any isorerly or unlawful purpose. Exhibitors may not transfer this space to any other person or entity without first obtaining the written consent of the Exhibitions office. Uner no circumstances is alcohol to be serve in the Tjaen galleries unless an Event Registration approval is submitte two weeks prior to the opening ate of your exhibition. At the en of the exhibition perio, the exhibitor must return the gallery to the same conition as at the beginning of the exhibition term, orinary wear an tear excepte. (Example, if an exhibitor chooses to paint the walls, he or she is responsible for repainting them after the exhibit with the appropriate gallery paint.) Aitionally, the exhibitor will be responsible for any amage to the premises an agrees to pay the cost of repair. Exhibitors may not repair any part of the gallery without prior permission of the art office. Finally, exhibitors are encourage to consier carefully the gallery s suitability to their exhibits with particular consieration given to safety, installation proceures, an to the space itself. SAFETY The galleries primary responsibility is to preserve the works of art entruste to its care an to provie a safe environment for all persons who visit the gallery. Any person or persons whose behavior threatens or appears to threaten the gallery or the exhibits will be aske to leave the builing. Aitionally, the gallery will not allow exhibitors to install exhibits that threaten the safety of gallery visitors or builing, contain hazarous materials, or violate environmental health an safety regulations. Any exhibitor who has questions or concerns regaring the safety of his/her exhibit is encourage to speak with the art office prior to installation. Exhibitors must comply with feeral, state, or local laws, orers, or regulations an with university rules an policies, an with any lawful irection of Cornell University Police an Environmental Safety. Exhibitors must also obtain any necessary permits. The Olive Tjaen Gallery Committee or its esignee(s) reserve(s) the right to oversee any event. Exhibitors may not block any entrances, exits, or fire escapes. All oorways must remain completely unobstructe at all times. In both Olive Tjaen Gallery an Experimental Stuio, no work may be suspene from the ceiling, ceiling sprinkler heas, lights, or light tracks or attache to the floors. Finally, members of the Cornell community must be allowe to pass through the premises at all times, excluing aforementione times when the gallery is close. RECEPTIONS Special arrangements can be mae in avance for opening an/or closing receptions by contacting the art office. Exhibitors may not sponsor a party or a reception or serve foo or rink without prior approval from the art office. Uner no circumstances is alcohol to be serve in the Tjaen galleries unless an Event Registration approval is submitte to the Art office two weeks prior to the opening ate of your exhibition. Smoking is not permitte in the gallery at any time.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURES Exhibitors may not mark, paint, rill into, hammer, apply ahesive material, or in any way eface or alter any part of the gallery or gallery equipment without the express permission of the art office. All furniture, peestals, monitors, technology, cors, tools, gallery-provie supplies, light bulbs an fixtures, chairs, an fabric material scraps must remain in the gallery at all times an may be move only within the confines of the gallery uner supervision of the art office an in compliance with the following proceures: All plans for painting, hanging, surface alterations etc. must be iscusse with the art office prior to the hanging of a show No ahesives may be use on the walls, floor, winows or gallery surfaces (incluing tape, foam mounting squares, glue, etc ) No fixatives, spray paint, or noxious chemical are permitte in the gallery ue to ventilation concerns All exhibit pieces are expecte to be finishe completely an the gallery to be clean an presentable by exhibition opening time (typically by Monay, 8 a.m.) Exhibitor must keep oors locke, tool closets locke, an gallery lights turne completely off when not present uring after-hours an on weekens Keys to the gallery or tool closets must not be share or left unattene, an must be returne immeiately to 224 Tjaen Hall following the take own of the exhibit LIGHTING The gallery assistant will be responsible for ajusting the lighting for each show. The lights will only be ajuste by the gallery assistant or art office. Shoul a light be move or broken by the exhibitor, the exhibitor will be responsible for the cost of replacing the light. TAKE DOWN All exhibition materials shoul be remove from the gallery on the ay agree upon at a time scheule with the gallery assistant an/or art office. Any items left at the en of a show will be ispose of immeiately. The gallery must be left in the same conition that it was receive, incluing: gallery tools an supplies must be returne to their closets, an any amages to the gallery must be repaire uner the supervision of the gallery assistant an/or art office. PHOTOGRAPHY The Olive Tjaen Gallery an Experimental Stuio are authorize to photograph, sketch or reprouce in any meia any object covere by this statement for ocumentary an eucational purposes, for reprouction in a college magazine, or in publicity relate to the exhibition, unless other arrangements between the exhibitor an the art office have been agree upon in writing prior to the time of exhibition. Cornell faculty, staff, stuents, an general public may photograph works in an exhibition for non-commercial use. CANCELLATION POLICY Shoul the exhibitor fail to comply with any conitions ocumente above, whether express or implie, or shoul the art office or gallery committee reasonably believe that such has occurre or is likely to occur, the art office or epartment may take possession of the gallery without notice, terminating the exhibitor s use of the gallery. In this event, the exhibitor remains liable for any an all amages or eficiencies.
