Comments Health & Safety G22 Build into mandatory technical units. 151 31 G22 criteria to be specific on the requirements of the observations, which should include carrying out COSHH and Risk Assessments. Comments General Comment Maximum and minimum service time. The maximum service times needs to revised. There needs to be more flexibility and there needs to be room for professional discretion given to the assessor/tutor. The current service times do not take in consideration of factors such as different hair types. It is argued these minimum service times are one of the reasons why many learners who have completed the level 2 are unemployable is because they are rushing to complete the practical task instead of concentrating on the quality. It is recognised there is a need for time constraints but more control needs to be given to the tutor/assessor. 134 57 16 14 12 1 Perming The Perming unit needs to stay optional; however, certain changes need to occur. Centres are having difficulty finding models that is willing to have their hair permed; therefore learners will be delayed in achieving their qualification because the centre can not find a model. There is not a large market out there for perms and therefore learners should have the option to choose if they want to learn this skill. The changes which were suggested are winding techniques should be built into the perming units and the number of observations need to be reduced from 3 to 2. 128 61 8 6 4 Advise, consultation and diagnosis unit We need to create a separate Advise, Consultation and Diagnosis knowledge unit at level 2, and the practical aspect of this unit should be included in all practical aspects of the qualification. There is no enough emphasis on how important the consultation aspect is therefore a separate unit should be created. 131 56 2 CPD unit There needs to be a CPD unit, therefore, skills learnt can be maintained after they have been completed. 146 42 Level 2 Hair The main issue was learners are not job ready after completing the Level 2 in Hair, the perception with learners is after they complete the level 2 they will be able to walk into a salon and start working, which is incorrect as they do not necessary have all the skills needed. Changes need to be made at Level 2 make learners more job ready. Employers are stating they are more likely to employ someone who has the basic skills as a hair dresser and nurture and develop their skills, however, learners are coming out with a level 2 and without the basic skills. It is suggestions Level 2 should consist of more units therefore giving the learner the basic skills and the Level 3 should compromise of specialist routes for the learner to choose. 147 41 c E3 can we not infer knowledge that is observed, why does there need to be a question on something like gowning and protecting. 146 42 New Units Advanced Selling set targets 134 57 Permanent Blow dry 128 61 Bridal Hair 127 59 City Guilds September 213
