This process will take almost a full bottle of paint. Paint the front of the box, the drawer front and front of the knob SOFT BLUE. Make a darker blue mix with SOFT BLUE plus a touch of ULTRA BLUE DEEP plus a touch of BLACK PLUM pull off some of this mix and lighten with SOFT BLUE for a medium blue pull off some of the medium mix and lighten with more SOFT BLUE. Flip-flop and pat the light mix on the upper left corner under the curve and down though the center working this into medium mix-upper right corner down right side across the bottom and up the left side. Pat darker blue mix on the bottom corner. Where one shade meets another lightly pounce with a damp make-up sponge to soften. Transfer the pattern using blue transfer paper. BIRDS Use LAMP BLACK outline and paint the tail, wing, eye and spot on the head. Outline the beak with SOFT BLACK. Base paint the yellow body with a light mix of SAFFRON YELLOW plus a touch of WARM WHITE may take two coats let dry paint over with MUSTARD SEED. Make a shading mix with MUSTARD SEED plus a touch of RED VIOLET paint the beak, shade around the 1

beak, eye, neck and wings. Paint the eye LAMP BLACK add a half circle with the medium-blue mix and a WARM WHITE highlight dot. Make a darker shading mix with MUSTARD SEED plus a touch of BLACK PLUM and shade the beak, darken under the wing and tail on the left bird darken the back of the neck, around the beak and lower body on the right bird. Brighten below the eyes and upper breast with BRIGHT YELLOW. Make a grey mix with a touch of the medium blue mix plus a dot of BLACK PLUM and float the tip of the tail on the right bird and the wing on the left bird. Outline the legs and feet with SOFT BLACK dot and streak with SAFFRON YELLOW plus WARM WHITE. BACKGROUND LEAVES Use a ¼ Angular Shader brush to shape and paint the background leaves using brush mixtures of thinned medium blue mix plus a touch of RED VIOLET medium blue mix plus a touch of RED VIOLET medium blue mix plus a touch of HAUSER DARK GREEN. THISTLES STEMS AND LEAVES Outline stems with HAUSER DARK GREEN plus a dot of BLACK GREEN streak and dot with HAUSER MEDIUM GREEN and FOLIAGE GREEN plus a dot of LEMONADE. Shape the leaves with HAUSER DARK GREEN plus a touch of BLACK PLUM paint centers with HAUSER MEDIUM GREEN float and streak lighter colors with HAUSER MEDIUM GREEN plus a touch of the yellow shading mix used on the birds HAUSER MEDIUM GREEN plus FOLIAGE GREEN - light edges are FOLIAGE GREEN plus LEMONADE. Use the same greens on the base of the thistles. Base the center of the thistles with a dark violet mix of BLACK PLUM plus RED VIO- LET streak with BOYSENBERRY PINK plus a touch of RED VIOLET BOYSENBERRY PINK and BOYSENBERRY PINK plus 2

a touch of WARM WHITE. Dot the center of the puffs with HAUSER DARK GREEN pat around the dot with MUSTARD SEED plus WARM WHITE streak the puffs with WARM WHITE. WHITE FLOWERS Use the same greens on the stems and leaves. To form the flower heads use a liner HAUSER DARK GREEN plus a touch of HAUSER MEDIUM GREEN and streak a fan shape head. Use a size 1 Round brush WARM WHITE plus a touch of FOLIAGE GREEN and dot small four petal flowers highlight with dots of WARM WHITE. Finish: Finish with several coats of Dura- Clear Varnish - Satin. 3
