Directions for Use In order for your students to make the leprechaun or clover craftivity, you first must print out the shapes from this PDF and create TRACERS for your students to use to cut out the various shapes needed to make the crafts. Use heavy cardstock or tagboard to create the tracers. I would suggest making 6-8 tracers of each shape based on the number of students you have in your class. The Cause and Effect printable is double-sided. The sides line up perfectly with each other when printed. However, they will print better if you print it on your home printer FIRST. Print the front of the cause and effect printable and then RE-FEED it into your printer and print the back of it to create a Master copy. They will line up perfectly. Then use your school machine to copy this page in a front to back fashion. The Clover of Character Traits Craftivity You need to photocopy the printable for each student. You must also create Tracers of the clover for the students to use to trace on green construction paper. Please see the following slides of photographs to help you. In order to attach the cover and printable., use a glue stick and add glue to the center of the shamrock. to attach them together and allow the petals to flap up or down.
Literature Mentor Text My favorite book to read on St. Patrick s Day is Clever Tom and the Leprechaun written by Linda Shute which was my inspiration for these craftivities! This book lends itself very nicely to Cause and Effect relationships and a character traits study. My suggestion is to read this book to your students first and then complete one or both of the Craftivities in this unit. This cover photo is a direct link to Amazon if you so wish to purchase this book. However, the good ol library suits me just fine
Cause and Effect with Clever Tom and the Leprechaun Here are two photographs of the Leprechaun Cause and Effect Craftivity. This shows the flip-flap book closed and one flap open. The following 8 slides are the tracers to make your Leprechaun Cause and Effect Craft.

Cut out the center and around the entire shape to make your tracer. You can use this shape for a beard and hair together. Or you can just use the beard on the following page. You don t really see the leprechauns hair when the hat is placed on the craft.

A Clover of Character Traits Craftivity These are sample photographs of the finished Clover of Character Traits Craftivity.
Use this shape to create tracers out of tagboard or cardstock. Your students can use the tracers to trace the shape on green construction paper for the cover of their Clover of Character Traits craft.
Math Activities and Games The following slides can be placed in your math center for the month of March or you can use them on St. Patrick s Day to have a Day o Fun! I am going to use all of these activities on St. Patrick s Day in my classroom. During math time, I will set up 3 stations in my classroom for the students to rotate to. At each station they will either play the Dublin Fun Doubles Game, the Leprechaun Loot Activity, or the Pot o Gold Domino Sums activity. To prepare these activities, I suggest copying them and then laminating them for durability to use yearly. Dublin Fun This is a doubles fact game. I have included a Shamrock Gameboard and directions. The only materials you need for this game are dice and two different colored cubes, chips, etc. Leprechaun Loot This is a two-player game. The object of the game is to make the largest number you can using the gold coin/shamrock number cards. After each student creates their number, they decide which number is the greatest and writes it down on their recording sheet. They must also keep track of who made the most Leprechaun Loot greatest numbers using tally marks. Pot o Gold Domino Sums This activity allows the students to practice their addition skills using dominoes. Place at least 10 Pots o Gold workmats in the center/station and a bin of dominoes. The students put two dominos on their little Pots o Gold workmats and then write the numbers from the dominoes on their recording sheet. Lastly, they add their addends and then take two new dominoes. It is possible the students may have to regroup with this activity depending on how they place their dominos on their workmats.
Printing Leprechaun Loot Coin Cards When you are ready to print the Leprechaun Loot Coin Cards, begin printing them on your home printer. Print the Shamrock side of the coin cards first. Then RE-FEED the page into your printer and print the Gold Coin side of the page. They will print directly on top of one another. You might have to try a few times until you figure out how your printer feeds the paper into your computer to get them to print correctly. After you print out the cards, trim the sides of the paper where is says Cut off this strip. Then feed the whole page into your laminator. After the page is laminated, then cut out the small shamrock/gold coin leprechaun loot cards for the game.
Print these Pot o Gold Workmats and laminate for durability. Cut them out to allow the students to build on them with their dominoes.
