CRICOS PROVIDER CODE: 00582F Mary MacKillop College Uniform Guide

Uniform Requirements Students take pride in themselves and in their school by being neatly dressed and by behaving in a courteous and dignified manner on all occasions. Correct College uniform is to be worn at all times, including when travelling to and from the College. Students who wear unacceptable items and break the uniform code incur disciplinary action. If for any reason a student is out of College uniform, a note of explanation from a parent/guardian must be shown to the House Group teacher who will issue a uniform pass. The student is to carry the pass for that day. Special circumstances concerning the wearing of incorrect uniform are to be referred to the Deputy Principal Director of Students. Formal Uniform Navy dress College badge on the left collar and House badge on the right collar. College socks with two blue bands worn every day including with sports uniform. The College offers standard socks or padded socks and either style may be worn on any day. (Black tights may be worn as an alternative to socks in Terms 2 and 3. These are available from the uniform shop, however items purchased elsewhere should match. Knee-hi stockings are not permitted at any time of the year). Black leather traditional school shoe, flat-heeled (no more than 2.5 cm), lace up (not slip on, buckle or Velcro). All students (Years 7 to 12) must purchase the College Blazer to wear to formal occasions such as assembly, awards night etc. Wearing of the blazer to and from school is compulsory in Terms 2 and 3. In Terms 2 and 3, students wear the College blazer with or without a jumper. The College blazer must be worn on all formal occasions throughout the year by all students. Under no circumstances is the College tracksuit or the sports cap to be worn with the formal uniform.

Sport Uniform Years 7 12 Sport uniforms are to be worn on a Wednesday, to and from school. Students undertaking PE classes must wear their day uniform to and from school. Students are to change prior to the PE class and must change back into their formal uniform before leaving for the day. Sport uniform consists of - College sports top (with green, red or yellow house panel). Navy shorts. College socks with two blue bands. Sport shoes with light, non-scuff marking soles no gym boots, Cons, Volleys, Vans, soft canvas shoes and no featured caricatures e.g. ants, skulls etc. College cap must be worn at all times during the school day and to and from school. The College padlock must be purchased from the uniform shop and used on student lockers. All students must purchase a tag for their school bag or backpack which will be individually embroidered with their initial and surname. When attached this bag tag helps students to identify their own belongings. Therefore, no ribbons, keyrings, stickers or other external markings are permitted on school bags.

Uniform Process The various policies and procedures of this College are there for good order, safety and the promotion of life and learning in a positive environment. Sometimes people may think that we are being picky or pedantic when we take a stand on uniform, assessment timelines, or homework requirements but these, and policies like these are very important they are the essential springboards to everything else in the school because they are meant to grow mutual respect. The importance comes not from the imposition of power but from the establishment of boundaries and expectations. The courtesy and beauty of our students are natural attributes that we enjoy each and every day. There are many other gifts and virtues residing in each young woman but they may well remain undiscovered unless there is challenge to change, nurturing to grow and goals to which one can aspire. The aim of our discipline is to do just those things. So, correct socks are an issue on one level, but on a more important level they are measurables that indicate whether a student is choosing to be part of our community, committing herself to the job at hand, being proud of herself and aspiring to all that is attainable. The sock, or the hair, or the makeup are indicators, but at the level of our particular consciousness they represent an achievable and measurable assent to this school by students and their families, to our education and to our fullest view of the educated and impassioned modern woman. The requirements are emblematic of commitment and that is why they are important. This is all at the high end of thinking behind our policies, but also, there is the consequence of not being committed. Our process for non-commitment is simple but so very important: 1. The first breach of requirements merits lunch time detention; 2. The second breach will attract a longer detention; 3. A third breach requires a parent interview and suspension because the issue becomes one of defiance; 4. Subsequent breaches will be serious matters. May I stress that this process is not meant to be confrontational or unduly punitive. It is meant to indicate that we are serious about our educational goals and our commitment to our young women. I believe that families expect this of us as that is my common experience. Mrs Christine Clarke Principal
