April 2018 Dear Clothing & Quilting Project Members, The 4-H Clothing, Quilts and Fashion Revue Judging will be Thursday, July 12, 2018, 8 a.m. on the Rice County Fairgrounds, 4-H Building. ALL (includes Cloverbuds) clothing - purchased & construction, quilt project exhibits and fashion revue will be judged on the 12 th. Reminder Make sure you entered your class(es) on FairEntry by Monday June 25 th! Included in this packet you'll find: Information related to the Clothing-CYM & CYB, Quilts and Fashion Revue judging. Please read all of the information. The Script Form to be used as your introduction at the Public Fashion Revue. Scripts must be complete, with a minimum of 30 words, and be creative! It may be helpful to have someone double check your script. The Script Form needs to be turned in on clothing judging day, July 12th. Clothing, Fashion Revue & Quilting judging evaluation forms. Acceptable Sewing Guidlelines for 4-H Sewers. You can leave your clothing/quilting exhibits for display at County Fair on the 12 th. If you take your exhibit home, you need to bring it back on Monday, July 16 th during general project judging time. Exhibits must be displayed during the fair to receive premium, awards and state fair trips. The Public Fashion Revue will be Sunday, July 22 nd at 3 p.m. on the Sellner Memorial Stage. 4-H CLOTHING/QUILTING EXHIBIT & FASHION REVUE JUDGING DAY Thursday, July 12, 2018, 8 a.m. 4-H Building on Rice County Fairgrounds All (includes Cloverbuds) 4-H Clothing (constructed & purchased), Non-Garments, Quilting and Fashion Revue. CHECK-IN: Register and cancel entries at this time. TURN IN SCRIPT FORM: Have PDC member look over to make any necessary changes. CLOTHES YOU MAKE/NON-GARMENT/QUILTING: Item(s) needs to be completed by judging day. All items must have a label neatly basted on the inside/backside with name, club, grade and care instructions. CLOTHES YOU BUY: Follow the directions in the fair book. The binder needs to be ready for judging day. NEW MEMBERS: Parents usually accompany members. There is a certain amount of waiting time to be expected. Parents may sit in on the judging, but allow the member to answer the questions, parents should not answer. DISPLAY AT FAIR: You can leave your item(s) to be displayed during fair. If you take the item home, you need to bring it back on Monday, July 16 th during your scheduled club judging time. Exhibits must be displayed during the fair to receive premium, awards and state fair trips. FASHION REVUE JUDGING: Dress with the accessories that complete the outfit (the same outfit is to be worn for the public show). Members will be asked questions and then the group will be viewed as a whole. Do not leave fashion revue judging until the judge dismisses you. FASHION REVUE PRACTICE: If you have questions about modeling ask one of the committee members. IMPORTANT REMINDERS: Entries for clothing, quilting and fashion revue judging must be entered online using FairEntry or the paper County Fair Advance Entry turned into the extension office by Monday, June 25th. Sharing Your Sewing - Make item for someone else. Item is eligible for a state fair trip. These are not judged as a fashion revue entry, but you may have a guest model at the public show (if so, a script is needed). Non-Garment - Items are eligible for state fair trips. These items are not judged as a fashion revue entry. Parents should not do any of the construction steps. Choose your patterns so they fit the skills and the guidelines for the level. Sergers can be used. 4-H PUBLIC FASHION REVUE Sunday, July 22 3:00 p.m. Sellner Memorial Stage, Fairgrounds HOW TO WRITE A SCRIPT GENERAL IDEAS: 1. Tips on writing your script: Write out your rough draft on a separate sheet of paper and copy it over the front page of the form. Write very CLEARLY or PRINT. If you need help, get ideas from the description on your pattern envelope. Look on the back for the fashion words that describe your garment, or look in a mail order catalog or fashion magazine. Script should be a minimum of 30 words. Please write complete sentences. Read them aloud to yourself, to check if they sound okay. Be creative as possible. Vary where you include your name and club. 2. Along with your name include, a description of the item you made or purchased as your exhibit, information on type of fibers in the fabric and other items of interest-- such as item care, cost, occasion to be worn, any new experiences or learning about it, and any other factors that were important to you about this item. 3. The Clothing/Fashion Revue Script Form is be turned in on the day of judging. EXAMPLES: Sally Williams is dressed for summer sport activities. She made both the red cotton pants and the red and white shirt. She is wearing shoes for action sports to complete her outfit. The design on the shirt that was silkscreen printed by Sally as part of her Creative Arts project. Sally is a member of the Clover Clovers 4-H Club. Brett Sanderson is ready for sport events in his vest. The face fabric is nylon sport cloth and the lining is a lighter weight nylon. "Thinsulate", a specialized insulating fiber, is used inside the vest. He can wear his vest in the fall to football games and in the winter around school. His vest cost a total of $22.00. The cotton-polyester skirt and cotton shirt modeled by Amy Jo Scott was purchased JC Penney. She spent a total of $24.95. Her skirt and top goes with many other pieces in her wardrobe. She is accessorizing her outfit with silver jewelry and flip flops. Suzy Sommers has made a wool blend, two-piece suit. Her blazer jacket features speed tailoring techniques and welt pockets. She used a press-on non-woven interfacing in the jacket and skirt waistband. The jacket is fully lined. The skirt features front tucks. She is able to war the suit as a whole or as separate pieces. She can wear her suit to interviews or to a special get-together. Her suit cost a total of $70.00 to make. EXHIBIT RELEASE: Items that are in the public Fashion Revue on Sunday will be released at 2:00 p.m. LINE-UP: Members are asked to be at the extension office by 2:30 p.m. so you are dressed and ready to line-up at 2:45 p.m.!
