We are pleased to be able to hold the first ever on-farm sale of Dexter cattle in Tasmania. Our breeding history goes back to 1997 when we first purchased our females which started a love affair with Dexters which continues into today. In 2009 we moved our herd of 24 females to Tasmania, settling on the NW Coast at Preston. In 2011 the nucleus of the Kirup Park herd made the journey to join us with 13 females being shipped across the country. These animals form the basis of the polled genetics which have seen us achieve so much improvement in our overall goal to have a totally polled herd. Our focus has always been on producing quality, structurally correct animals, adding to this the genetics of naturally polled animals and we believe we have some of the finest bloodlines in Australia in our stud. For us sires of significance have been Rawlings Blueprint (pictured below left), Rawlings Coppertop (pictured below right) and their subsequent sons Rawlings ET, Rawlings Grand Design and Rawlings Heir Apparent. A program of polling testing through UC Davis in the US showed 4 of the 5 bulls were all tested as homozygous polled. This has made our task so much easier, as all of their resultant progeny are polled even when used over horned females. So for us polling is just one generation away! We have sourced the very best genetics from overseas to import genetics which we believe will compliment our strong female base. Gabriella Nanci supplied us with semen from Belle Fourche Clay, Belle Fourche Lasair, Mrald Overture and Belle Fourche Macintosh who are all homozygous polled and already have on the ground some impressive calves. This has allowed us to offer select semen packages to assist in herd improvement across Australia. Our herd has been tested for PHA another lethal gene known to exist in Dexters and we have been diligent in eliminating this from our herd. We have a MN3 status on the nationally accredited Market Assurance Program for Johnes, so again our herd has undergone rigorous testing to maintain the best possible health outcomes. All our animals are halter trained and tractable and come with a rope halter.
