509 A Chinese Doucai porcelain dish the centre decorated in under glaze blue and red and over glaze green, red and yellow enamels with a fruiting vine within concentric circles the border with three branches of pomegranate, with further concentric rings on the rim, the underside of the rim with three single pomegranates, six character mark for Xuande, but probably late 17th/early 18th century, 20.5 cm diameter, [single flake and polishing to rim]. 1000-1500 121

567 A pair of Chinese eggshell porcelain lime-green ground vases each of ovoid form with waisted neck and everted rim, finely painted with lotus blooms and leafy strapwork and other flowers, reserved on a lime-green ground between lappet and diaper borders, turquoise glazed interior and base, apocryphal iron-red Qianlong six-character seal marks, early 20th century, 19 cm high with carved hardwood stands and in fitted case. 1500-2000 Provenance Acquired in Peking in 1910-12 and thence by family descent. 131

The distinctive supporting pine leaves appear on other armorials decorated in the Giles workshops, including those of Hayes, Acclom and Calmady. The remaining pieces of the Calmady service were sold by the descendants of the family at Bearne s, Torquay in 1985. 143
