Maurice & Co, Paris, a Gothic mantel clock the eight-day duration movement having a replaced platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a gong, the backplate stamped with the trademark of the maker E. Maurice & Co, Paris and numbered 5596, the cast-brass Gothic style case with embossed decoration to the front and stylised Arabic numerals to the ivorine plaques, surmounted by a brass carrying handle, height 25cm, including handle. *Biography E. Maurice & Co are recorded as working at Rue Charlot 75, Paris and showed carriage clocks at the 1889 Paris Exposition. They used Ernest Pitcher of E. Pitcher & Co, London as their sole importers into the country and were succeeded by Blanpain, who had originally shared premises with another fine Parisian carriage clock maker, Pierre Drocourt. 484.
