You can get your cultural fix in Liverpool at any time of the year but this summer as part of the One City, One Summer cultural programme for the International Festival for Business (IFB) 2014, the city s theatres, its orchestra, festivals, galleries, museums and performers of every kind present a sparkling season of over 120 events that includes a number of new commissions and a festival every weekend. You won t have time to take in everything, but you can always come back to experience Liverpool s unique and distinctive cultural life, all year round. Theatre in Liverpool has continued to thrive since 2008 and this year has seen the much-heralded reopening of the Everyman on Hope Street. The Everyman presents the première of Dead Dog in a Suitcase, a satirical play full of corporate conspiracy created with Kneehigh Theatre and Charles Hazlewood, until 12 July. Elsewhere, John Power stars in the title role in Lennon The Musical at the Royal Court until 19 July, Wolf Red is at the Unity Theatre from 24-26 June, and looking forward, the Playhouse has the regional premiere of Betty Blue Eyes from 9 July 2 August and Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall s Gaffer is at the Unity Theatre from 26 June 5 July.

FORTHCOMING HIGHLIGHTS 5 JULY 26 OCTOBER LIVERPOOL BIENNIAL 2014: THE UK BIENNIAL OF CONTEMPORARY ART Various locations Liverpool Biennial 2014 includes the curated exhibition A Needle Walks into a Haystack at the Bluecoat, FACT, Old School for the Blind and Tate Liverpool plus the John Moores Painting Prize, Bloomberg New Contemporaries and exhibitions at Open Eye Gallery and the Exhibition Research Centre. 11-19 JULY BRAZILICA FESTIVAL Various locations The UK s largest samba carnival event, with a spectacular procession weaving its way through the city centre on Saturday 19 July and culminating in Williamson Square. The festival also showcases Brazilian music,exhibitions, films and workshops. 11-18 JULY BROUHAHA LIVERPOOL INTERNATIONAL CARNIVAL Various locations Music, dance, theatre and community and carnival events throughout the city. On 12 July, 1000 costumed participants take to the streets in a celebration of the city s diversity and creativity, and at Princes Park, visitors can enjoy performances, global foods and arts workshops. 23-27 JULY MEMORIES OF AUGUST 1914 Various locations The Giants return to provide the spectacular finale to the IFB 2014 cultural programme, a commemoration of 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War. It features the Little Girl Giant, her dog Xolo, and a new Grandmother Giant. A must-see. 15-31 AUGUST LIVERPOOL INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL Sefton Park and other locations After the success of last year s event, Liverpool International Music Festival will return in August 2014. With the major focus over the Bank Holiday weekend, the event will span several venues across the city for a fun-packed summer of music.
