2018-19 SCHOOL UNIFORM DRESS CODE

JUNIOR AND SENIOR STUDENTS All girls should be well groomed and wear their uniform in a neat and tidy fashion at all times. Kilts should be knee length, clean with well-ironed pleats. Buttons, if lost, should be replaced immediately. Blouses should be clean and in a good condition. Tights should NOT have seams, patterns or holes. Ankle socks must be worn over the ankles and not tucked under the feet inside the shoe. Shoes should be black, low-heeled (4 cm maximum), sturdy and clean/well-polished. Hair should always be well-brushed, regularly washed and worn in a neat and tidy fashion. In the Senior School, long hair should be neatly tied back using a black or blue elastic or scrunchie or a plain navy hair band is acceptable. In the Junior and Senior School, long hair should be tied back with either blue or red hair bands. Numerous clips, slides, coloured elastics and plaits are NOT acceptable. Hair should NOT be dyed. Make-up is NOT permitted during the normal school day. In the Senior School, girls may wear a modest amount of make-up if they are going out on a School trip and are not in uniform. Jewellery should NOT be worn with school uniform. Girls may wear a single wristwatch, a single pair of plain studs for pierced ears in ear lobes, one neck chain, one ring and one bracelet. Tattoos and body piercing of any kind are NOT permitted (one single hole in each ear lobe is allowed). Nails should be clean, neatly trimmed to a short length and only clear nail polish may be worn. SIXTH FORM STUDENTS School Wear Whilst we respect the wish of our students in the Sixth Form not to wear regular School uniform, it is necessary to maintain an appropriate business image and environment. Therefore, our Sixth Form students wear a tailored suit. All boarders will be provided with a choice of suit from our uniform suppliers. Additional suits of a similar standard may be purchased from alternative suppliers. Day pupils may purchase from the uniform supplier or from an alternative. A visit to the MHA uniform shop to familiarise yourself with the standard of the supplied suit is strongly recommended prior to making an alternative purchase. Any skirt or tunic must be knee length or below. Blouses and sweaters worn must compliment the suit. The top should be of a style with a minimum of a cap sleeve, a modest neck line with no visible cleavage and be without a bare mid-rift. The suit may be pinstriped or plain in navy or black with a matching dress, skirt or trousers. The jacket may have three quarter length sleeves. It must meet the skirt or trousers at least at waist level or longer. Jackets may not be cropped. Cardigans are not acceptable modes of business dress. Tops should be plain, predominantly single-coloured, subtly patterned or pinstriped blouse and/or an appropriate plain sweater. Smart knitwear is acceptable as are roll-neck tops. Tops/blouses must not be longer than the blazer. Blazers/Jackets are to be worn at all times. When tights are worn with a skirt, they may be sheer or opaque, not patterned. Sheer tights should be neutral, black or navy coloured; opaque tights should be navy or black. Shoes should be both smart and comfortable, with a maximum heel of 2 inches or 5 cm. Stiletto, kitten and platform heels are not acceptable. Leather boots may be worn (ankle boots with trousers or boots just below knee height with a skirt or dress). UGG

style boots are not permitted. Jewellery should be tasteful and limited (no more than one set of plain earrings, a necklace, a bracelet and a wristwatch). Hair should be one natural colour and tidy. Body piercing and tattoos, both temporary and permanent, are strictly prohibited. Mufti/Casual Clothing Girls should apply the same standards of dress when in mufti. Parents are requested to check that all clothing is appropriate. You should always dress so that you are a credit to both your School and to yourself. This means that the following points should be observed: Tops/T-Shirts: Tops and T-Shirts with logos or slogans should not be brought to School. Strappy or spaghetti tops may NOT be worn, nor may tops that leave the midriff visible. Sleeveless tops may be worn if the back and shoulders remain suitably covered. There should be no visible cleavage. Trousers/Jeans and Leggings: these should be clean and without holes/rips/tears or protruding studs. Chains, slogans, patches and other emblems should not be worn. Shoes/Boots/Sandals: In the interests of safety all footwear should not have excessively high heels (2 inches or 5 cm). Skirts: Should be knee length or below. Any side slits or kick splits should also reach no higher than 5 cm above the knee. Clothing or jewellery that in any way might be associated with an obscene or inappropriate subject is strictly forbidden. Jewellery: Jewellery may be worn with mufti, but the wearing of multiple earrings is not permitted. Jewellery and make-up should be discreet and complimentary to the girls appearance. Tattoos/Body Piercing/Hair: Whether temporary or permanent, tattoos and body piercings are forbidden, as are other cultish fads, outlandish hairstyles and the colouring of hair. Smart Mufti/Casual All girls should have a set of smart mufti. This should include an attractive long sleeved blouse, a dark coloured skirt at or below knee length, a plain cardigan or jersey (if required) and a smart jacket or coat and shoes to complement the outfit. This dress will be worn to events such as concerts and theatre outings. A female trouser suit may be worn on some occasions. Formal Dress An evening dress with shoulders covered (a shawl should be worn with dresses which are strapless or have thin straps) or National Dress may be worn for the Boarders Christmas Dinner and for the Summer Ball. Dresses must be of a respectable length appropriate for such formal occasions. Suits would not normally be appropriate for such occasions. Physical Education All Sixth Form students must have the School PE kit, as supplied by our uniform providers. In addition, specific kit may be required for particular sports for those students involved. Please see the uniform list for details ADDITIONAL NOTES FOR ALL STUDENTS School uniform must be worn for all travel to and from School. Any girl found to be in conflict with the uniform guidelines will be sent immediately to change. In the case where this is not possible, a full replacement uniform will be provided for the day. A cleaning bill for the outfit will be added to the School fees account. QUESTIONS OR QUERIES
