Repairing an i-limb skin active covering Small tears and holes may appear in the covering as a result of daily use. Prompt repair will prevent these from getting worse. Remove the temporary i-limb skin active covering as described in the previous section Identify the damaged area Pinch the damaged area as shown in the image below. Note that the thickness of the material is facing outwards Apply a small amount of adhesive (supplied by Touch Bionics) to the damaged area 1 2 4
Using a flat disposable utensil (not supplied) spread adhesive evenly over the full length of the cut / damaged area Remove pressure from the pinch, allow skin to settle and immediately remove excess adhesive gently with a paper towel Allow adhesive to harden / dry undisturbed for a minimum of 30 minutes before putting the cover back on your Touch Bionics prosthesis 3 4 5 6 5

This will help the covering slide onto the extended i-limb ultra fingers. Spray the silicone on the inside of the inverted cover generously with the IPA lubricant / cleaner supplied. 6
5 6 Position the thumb of the hand opposite and facing the forefinger, as if it would close into a pinch grip. Slide the covering onto the four fingers of the hand and work it well down onto the fingers. 7 8 When possible, place the thumb hole of the covering over the thumb tip and start to work the covering down onto the fingers and the thumb together. Once the covering is well on over the fingers and thumb, take a firm grasp on the covering at the wrist cuff and gently pull the covering up and over the thumb. i-limb skin natural Cover and i-limb skin match Custom Cover Wear and Care Guidelines Care for your cover is very important in order to maintain its use long-term, and to uphold its warranty. The following are some guidelines for wear and care. Donning and doffing the cover Please read the Donning and doffing instructions in this leaflet provided with your cover and follow the appropriate steps closely. Wash the outside of your cover regularly Use warm water and plain soap regularly to clean the outside of the cover. Using the correct soap is very important - plain Dawn or Ivory brand liquid dishwashing soaps are recommended. CAUTION: Some soaps contain additives such as oil, perfume, hand lotion, glycerine or aloe and should be avoided. Clean the cover with medical rubbing alcohol once a week to help with disinfection. Avoid oil and oily substances Oils and oily substances alone may not damage the cover. However, oily substances attract and create an adherence of dirt, grime and other chemicals which can lead to damage of the cover if it is not washed and cleaned regularly as described above. Many hair and body products contain oil and should only be used when you are not wearing your prosthesis. Exposure to oils and oily substances may make the prosthesis look shiny. Do not use oil control cleansers to manage the shine these are abrasive and will add to the tarnished look of your cover. 9
Body perspiration contains oils which can accumulate and damage the prosthesis if not removed by proper cleaning. Failure to keep your cover clean as instructed above will void the warranty. Be alert to the products you use Although the cover is made of a durable material, it is possible to stain it. Some substances to avoid include blue Woolite, permanent markers, some pens and inks (newspaper ink will not stain), unwashed blue jeans and fabrics, bleach, chronic exposure to cigar and cigarette smoke, carbon paper and carbonless carbon paper. Given the number of new and developing products available today it is impossible to list all products that might stain your cover. The list represents examples of the kinds of products that can damage your cover. If your cover is stained, quickly wash it with warm water and plain soap and then clean with alcohol. Stains If your prosthesis is stained, quickly wash it with a damp cloth and plain soap then rub with cleaning alcohol. If the stain does not come out, or if you damage your prosthesis in any way, please follow these steps: If you received your prosthesis directly from Touch Bionics, please contact our office to schedule an evaluation for repair. Please refer to the back page for contact information. If you received your prosthesis from a practitioner in your community, ask your practitioner to contact our office. Do not attempt to repair your i-limb skin natural or custom cover. If your cover is damaged in some way, do not attempt to fix it yourself. Please contact your attending prosthetist or clinician. Cutting or gluing or altering your cover may make it unrepairable and will void the warranty. Usually we can repair the damage, rendering it almost undetectable. Never try to fix the prosthesis yourself. Gluing or 10
attempting to repair your prosthesis will void the warranty. Accessing the battery or switch If you need to access to a charge port or switch and have to roll up a sleeve or glove, spray the outside with medical rubbing alcohol before you start. This will make it easier to pull the skin against itself, and will prevent damage that may be caused by friction. Nails The nails of the i-limb skin natural Cover are silicone and cannot be polished/ painted as this will cause damage. Attaching acrylic nails will void the warranty. If you have a custom high definition cover the nails may either be silicone or acrylic. Acrylic fingernails may be polished as usual. Use only non-acetone nail polish remover. Silicone nails should not be polished. Jewelry and Gloves If you wish to wear gloves, a silk or smooth fabric lined glove will be much easier to put on and take off. If you wish to wear jewelry, please note that rings must be a pure and high grade metal such as silver and gold, and leathers and fabrics for covering wrist seams should not be products that risk bleeding dyes. 11
