APPEARANCE POLICY Under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006, a Principal may develop an Appearance Policy to apply when students are attending or representing the school. The following Appearance Policy clearly explains and documents standards of acceptable dress within Highfields State Secondary College (HSSC). The Appearance Policy is endorsed by the P&C Association. Why do students wear a uniform? Establishes a culture of school pride, a positive learning environment and high expectations; Promotes a positive image within the community with an identifiable uniform that is smart, tidy and worn appropriately; Addresses health and safety policies by ensuring students are wearing appropriate footwear and sunsafe clothing; School uniforms promote social equality among students because they diminish socioeconomic differences by reducing peer pressure associated with expensive brand clothing; Improves student safety by enabling staff to identify people within the school grounds who are not associated with the school. Students can wear the Formal Uniform or the Sports Uniform on all days except days where the formal uniform is required. Students are required to wear their Formal uniform for all occasions such as excursions (unless otherwise specified), awards nights, college photos, other college or public functions. HSSC uniforms are not to be altered in any fashion.
