The Head of Steam 2 Neville Street NE1 5EN Tel: 0191 230 4236 Split over two levels, this fabulous pub stocks a wide range of European beers and lagers. Live music downstairs and a relaxed bar atmosphere upstairs. 19. Digital (Nightclub) Times Square NE1 4EP Tel: 0191 6911601 With three rooms and one of the best sound systems you'll ever encounter. You can hear anything and everything here from the last 40 years with the one criteria being it has to rock, groove or funk.

Revolution 40 Collingwood Street Tel: 0191 261 8901 A luxurious bank conversion with original 30ft ceilings, marble pillars and classic wood features with a great reputation for fantastic music, a great atmosphere. 21. Tokyo 17 Westgate Road NE1 1SE Tel: 0191 232 1122 All candles and chandeliers, Tokyo is a stylish addition to Newcastle Gateshead's classy bar circuit, exuding a chic air. 22. Barluga 35 Grey Street NE1 6EE Tel: 0191 230 2306 As plush as they come, Barluga is a champagne/caviar bar and one of the places to be seen in. The Union Rooms 48 Westgate Road NE1 1TT Tel: 0191 261 5718 One of the J.D.Wetherspoon's chain of pubs, The Union Rooms is situated in one of the grandest buildings in Newcastle. This large establishment has numerous different bars set over two floors and has bags of character. 24. The Long Bar 39/47 Westgate Road NE1 5SG Tel: 0191 260 3937 Taking its name from the bar frequented by Michael Caine in the classic film 'Get Carter', The Long Bar is indeed long and narrow. However it has a comfortable lounge-like feel and attracts a mix of clientele.

The Centurion Central Station Neville Street NE1 5DG Tel: 0191 261 6611 Voted 'Newcastle's most impressive watering hole' by the Observer, the Centurion is a former first class passenger lounge welcoming an eclectic clientele.
