General Rules for Competitions 1. Open to all students currently attending a private Missouri cosmetology school. 2. All models and contestants must sign a MACS model s release form. All models must be 18 years of age or older. No parental consent letters will be accepted. 3. Contestants must agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the individual contests as well as the general contest rules set forth herein. All rules will be strictly enforced. [Contestants must sign and submit the official entry application and the required fee. In doing so, contestants agree to abide by the decision of the Judges as final.] 4. All contestants will provide their own models, equipment, supplies, hair dryers, mirrors, drapes, extension cords and any other related equipment. Contestant may not be their own model. 5. Only one model will be allowed per contestant per competition. 6. Cut-off time for all competition registration will be thirty (30) minutes prior to the competition. Competition start times are 9:00am, 11:00am or 2:00pm. Verify the start time for your competition. Contestants failing to report for their contest will not receive a refund of their entry fee. This rule will be strictly enforced. 7. Coaching by anyone in the audience for any contestant will result in penalty points being assessed which will be removed from the contestant s final score. No cell phones or any MP3/radio/CD player device is to be used during any competition. 8. MACS reserve the right to cancel or limit the number of contestants. If there are less than two (2) contestants registered for a competition, the competition may be adjusted upon approval of the Competition Chairperson. 9. Definition of Sages and Judges: Sages and Judges are licensed Cosmetologists / Estheticians /Nail Technicians who do not work in a school participating in the individual competition they are volunteering for. Sages walk among the contestants before and during the competition making sure all rules are being

adhered to. Judges may walk among contestants during the competition and, after completion, will award a score to each model. 10. Jury: The MACS Competition Chairman and the Sages constitute the Jury. The MACS Competition Chairman shall consult with members of the Jury when there are infractions of the rules by any contestant. If, in the opinion of the Jury the infractions should be penalized, a penalty of one-to-five (1-5) points may be assessed. The Sages may or may not agree unanimously. When penalty points are assessed, the reason must be recorded on the Sages score card by the Sages and turned into the MACS Competition Chairman, and shall be made known to the Tally Committee. The Judges shall be made aware of any infraction of the rules. After the competition, scores will be tallied, penalties subtracted and winners determined. 11. All pre-registered contestants arriving after the start of the competition may compete with the time remaining. Contestants may not switch entries once registered. 12. All Models, including nail models, must be draped in a white sheet, which must be furnished by the Contestant. 13. All Contestants will be given 1 MACS competition t-shirt at the registration desk to wear during competition. This is mandatory to wear all day, as it is your entry to the hall. 14. Please NO Flash Photography during the competition. There will be time to take pictures of the models once the contestants are finished. 15. After the competition, each school may request the judging sheets for their school from the MACS Competition Chairman. 16. For all competitions, 1 (one) chair is made available for each model. If another chair or stool is needed, the contestant will be responsible for furnishing their own. 17. If electricity is needed, each table will have an electrical hub stationed at each table. It is the contestant s responsibility to furnish any other extension cords needed. 18. The contestant number must be left with the model for judging. 19. Any rules not herein provided for shall be determined by the Jury. The decision of the Jury shall be final.

LADIES DAYTIME STYLE Prebriefing, 8:00 a.m. Competition, 9:00-9:45 a.m. 1. A daytime style will be performed on a live female model. Color and form must not be extreme and in no case part of the finishing style. 2. The Jury will determine whether the competitors have respected the Salon Style. No updos or evening styles. The Judges will consider the balance, value, harmony, and adaptability of the hairstyle to the current consumer style. 3. Competitors will have model s hair wet. Wet hair may be combed through with no signs of pre-styling. Competitors may use a hand-held or hooded hairdryer. 4. Forty-five (45) minutes will be allowed for competition. Leave the contestant number with the model for judging. LADIES HAIR SHAPING Prebriefing, 8:00 a.m. Competition, 9:00-9:30 a.m. 1. Complete haircut will be performed on a live female model. 2. Candidates will complete a ladies layered haircut using choice of implements. Points will be deducted if a MINIMUM of 1 (one) inch of hair is not removed from entire head. Disqualification will occur if the entire haircut is done with clippers. 3. Cut will be judged on execution of haircut and overall finished look. Contestant needs to wet down hair before judging. Cut will be judged wet. 4. Contestant will leave water bottle, 7 all-purpose comb, and number with model for judging. 5. Thirty (30) minutes will be allowed for competition.

SCULPTURED NAILS Prebriefing, 8:00 a.m. Competition, 9:00-9:45 1. Contestants will prepare the nails on the RIGHT HAND only with sculptured nails using forms. No tips, overlays, or gels. 2. Forty-five (45) minutes will be allowed for competition. Leave the contestant number with the model for judging. BODY ART Prebriefing, 8:00a.m. Competition, 9:00-9:45 a.m. 1. Open theme. Tattoos cannot be part of the theme. 2. Judging will include quality of execution, difficulty, and creativity. If applicable, props may be used. 3. Prepare body art to any area of the body within good taste. (No nudity will be allowed. At minimum a thong & pasties must be worn.) 4. May use power tools or free hand. No stencils allowed. Before the competition starts, any tattoos you wish to cover with neutral matching make-up is allowed. 5. No sign of pre-done body or face art of any kind. Nails & hair may be pre-done. 6. Forty-five (45) minutes will be allowed for competition. Leave the contestant number with the model for judging. 10-10:30am - Award Ceremony for Ladies Daytime Style, Ladies Hair Shaping, Sculptured Nails, Body Art

MEN S HAIR SHAPING Prebriefing, 8:00 a.m. Competition, 11:00.m.-11:30 a.m. 1. Complete haircut will be performed on a live male model. 2. Candidate will complete a blended layered haircut using choice of implements. Points will be deducted if a MINIMUM of 1 (one) inch of hair is not removed from entire head. Disqualification will occur if the entire haircut is done with clippers. 3. Cut will be judged on execution of haircut and overall finished look. 4. Contestant needs to wet down hair before judging. Cut will be judged wet. 5. Contestants will leave water bottle, 7 all-purpose comb, and number with model for judging. 6. Thirty (30) minutes will be allowed for competition. Leave the contestant number with the model for judging. NAIL ART Prebriefing, 8:00 a.m. Competition, 11:00-11:45 a.m. 1. Contestants will be asked to test their versatility as a nail technician in the vast area of nail art. 2. Contestants will prepare the nails on the RIGHT hand reflecting professional nail art. Left hand can be pre-done and, if applicable, art on the skin & props may be used and pre-done. 3. Theme will be open to the contestant s choice; however, all work must be done by hand. No air brushing or power tools will be allowed. May be 3-D or flat art. 4. Right hand may be pre-manicured but must be free of all polish and nail art. No pre-done nail forms. 5. Judges will be looking for quality of execution,

difficulty, and creativity. 6. Forty-five (45) minutes will be allowed for competition. Leave the contestant number with the model for judging. LADIES EVENING MAKE-UP Prebriefing, 8:00 a.m. Competition, 11:00-11:45 a.m. 1. Make-up will be judged with model s hair covered. Model must be draped from the neck down. No airbrush make-up may be used. 2. Model s face must be free of make-up. Sages will check each model before the start of the event. Artificial lashes may be applied before competition. No colored eyelash glue or colored strips. Lash bands must be clear. 3. Jewelry may be worn. 4. Time allowed for application will be forty-five (45) minutes. Leave the contestant number with the model for judging. 12-12:30pm - Award Ceremony for Men s Hair Shaping, Nail Art & Ladies Evening Make-Up Lunch break from 12:30-1:45pm HAIR FANTASY COMPETITION Prebriefing, 8:00 a.m. Competition, 2:00-3:00pm 1. Competition will be performed on a live model. 2. Open theme. All phases of judging are equal and will include hair, head dress (hats, etc.), nails, clothing

(costume), shoes, accessories, make-up and presentation. 3. Three-fourths of the hair MUST be incorporated into the finished look. Ornaments may be used, but may not cover more than one-fourth of the head form. Any extension hair that is bonded, infused or sewn-in before the competition will count as natural hair. (NO WIGS may be used) 4. No masks allowed. If applicable, props may be used. 5. Hair must show no signs of pre-combing, including pony tails, etc. and Sages must be able to comb through entire head of hair. Make-up and clothing can be pre-done. 6. The model will have approximately 30 (thirty) seconds to walk the runway to the music of their choice. Walk must be consistent to theme. (please bring music on USB memory stick or *Original CD, along with a 3x5 card with a summary of your theme in 10 words or less with contestant number & song/cd track # written on it). Music and Summary must be presented to the DJ 30 minutes prior to competition. *NOTE: USB is suggested for music, however, if you are using a CD, it is requested you bring an original CD as we have had problems with burnt CDs in the past. 7. Sixty (60) minutes will be allowed for competition and will be judged on total look. Leave the contestant number with the model for judging. LADIES TOTAL EVENING LOOK Prebriefing, 8:00 a.m. *Competition, 2:00-3:00 p.m. 1. Theme: Ladies Total Evening (Red Carpet Look) 2. Contestants will have model s hair dry and ready to comb-out. (Iron curled or wet set.) Hair must show no signs of pre-combing and Sages must be able to comb through the entire head of hair. Make-up and clothing may be predone.

3. Competition must be completed on female models. 4. Three-fourths of the hair must be incorporated into the finished look. Ornaments may be used, but may not cover more than one-fourth of the head form. Any extension hair that is bonded, infused or sewn-in before the competition will count as natural hair. (NO WIGS may be used) 5. All phases of judging are equal and will include hair, nails, make-up, clothing, shoes & accessories, and should follow a Total Evening Red Carpet Look theme. 6. The models will walk the runway to a selection of background music of the DJ s choice. Model will be judged on Total Evening look. Models walk should be consistent with a red carpet look. 7. Contestants will have sixty (60) minutes to complete hairstyle and add hairpieces. Leave the contestant number with the model for judging. 4:30 5pm - Award Ceremony Fantasy & Total Evening Look AWARDS 1st Place: Trophy plus prizes 2nd Place - 5th Place: Medallion plus prizes All contestants will receive a Certificate of Entry from the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology when they pick up registration information at registration desk (if available)

FEES FOR ENTERING EACH COMPETITION This Event is for Private Cosmetology schools in the state of Missouri. Vo-Tech school students are not eligible to participate. Registration desk will open at 7:00 a.m. the day of the competition. Pre-Registration: $25.00 includes entry fee, contestant shirt & entry wristband for model. (must be received/postmarked by September 29, 2017) Make checks payable to MACS. Must be a school check, money order or cashier s check. No refunds or credits of entry fees will be issued. At-the-door Registration: October 15, 2017 $55.00 includes entry fee, contestant shirt & entry wristband for model. At-the-Door Entry Charge for all others (excluding contestants and models): $5.00 per person. Contact your local participating Cosmetology School to pre-purchase entry wristbands at a reduced rate.
