I found this "Salt" a few years ago with a bunch of ashtrays. It was a mess, covered with ashes and tar. A good cleaning revealed a wonderful piece of green glass and a

Page 3 of 47 frame that needed only a bit of straightening. The Open Salt Compendium has a similar amber dish in a stand, described as Made in Czechoslovakia, on plate 284. If anyone knows more about it, I m always looking for more information. Judy in Texas 8 Judy in Texas 09-02-2010 08:59 AM ET (US) One of my favorites 9 Judy in Texas 09-02-2010 09:00 AM ET (US) Like the blue Intaglio posted last month -- Different Frame 10 Judy in Texas 09-02-2010 09:01 AM ET (US) Like the blue intaglio I posted last month, this one has a lovely lady on the base and feather-like design around the sides of the glass. The framework is very intricate. Although it is salt-size: 3 1/4 inches long, 2 1/2 inches wide and 1 inch high; it is more likely a pin tray. That hasn t stopped me from keeping it as another Open Salt What- To-Be in my collection. 11 Susie P 09-02-2010 09:01 PM ET (US) ooh, Judy in Texas - Wow! Love the green with fish!!!! Sorry, no further info; looked in a couple of my czech books, but didn't see anything - Stunning! :) 12 Nancy Villaverde 09-02-2010 10:54 PM ET (US) Lovely one, Judy. I thought we would have strings of the jeweled holders by now. Somebody may be busy taking photos--i hope. All I have is the cat in a hat with a

Page 4 of 47 couple of jewels, favored because of the cat. Nancy V 13 Janelle Jefferson 09-03-2010 12:13 AM ET (US) Intaglio Holder has British Reg. No 779742 on the back which dates the design to 1930-1939. It has the Crown, Rose, Thistle and Shamrocks in the flower design. Glass Intaglio in it probably not the original one. 14 Janelle Jefferson 09-03-2010 12:14 AM ET (US) British Intaglio Holder 15 Janelle Jefferson 09-03-2010 12:25 AM ET (US) Correction, Registration Number is 382962 which dates the design to 1901-1902 16 Debi Raitz 09-03-2010 06:25 PM ET (US) Deleted by author 09-03-2010 06:39 PM 17 Debi Raitz 09-03-2010 06:26 PM ET (US) Deleted by author 09-03-2010 06:39 PM 18 Debi Raitz 09-03-2010 07:36 PM ET (US) OK, let's try this again. I didn't realize those were old pictures before I added the two round replacement jewels from Jane - Thank you very much! They are a good match. 19 Debi Raitz 09-03-2010 07:37 PM ET (US) Blue golfer intaglio - not the original intaglio But I liked the holder. 20Debi Raitz 09-03-2010 07:39 PM ET (US)

Page 5 of 47 Another view - very graceful curve to the legs. 21 Debi Raitz 09-03-2010 07:45 PM ET (US) This next one is a marriage, and not a very good one, but I like having it elevated. The stand is one of those that usually holds a Mary Gregory type round glass. (I am biding my time for a cobalt one to come along.) In the mean time, it holds this beautiful round intaglio with curved rim and jewels set in that are the same color as the glass. Only every other one is present, but you can't really tell except by touch. This was a gift from a lovely lady and I think of her every time I see it. I don't know if the silver detail is paint or silver deposit, and I'm afraid to try cleaning it because if it's just paint, it might dissolve. 22Debi Raitz 09-03-2010 07:46 PM ET (US)

Page 6 of 47 Blue lady 23 Debi Raitz 09-03-2010 07:47 PM ET (US) Jewel detail 24 Debi Raitz 09-03-2010 07:51 PM ET (US) In case anyone missed the message on uploading pictures to any of the chat pages...no matter how large you have them, they will automatically be sized down to 500 pixels wide like the two large ones I have posted. I don't want to keep two sizes of every picture and I'm sure no one else does either. I have begun deleting the oldest subject each month when I add a new one. That should fix the picture posting limit. Debi 25Judy in Texas 09-04-2010 08:54 AM ET (US)

Page 7 of 47 New Union 26 Judy in Texas 09-04-2010 08:55 AM ET (US) What I ve done was a No No to my Mom. She always told me to keep antiques and old things we purchased in their Original condition. But really a rose frame on a stag intaglio! I had a lovely dish with a lady playing a harp, and the bush in front of them could be a rose bush. So I ask you Don t these two belong together? 27 Susie P 09-04-2010 09:02 AM ET (US) Absolutely~ and I must plead "guilty" as well - :) - sometimes I just like a different color in the frame, or the original is badly chipped :) - This is Lovely together :) 28Judy in Texas 09-04-2010 09:38 AM ET (US) I was so lucky... This salt is in great condition. 29 Judy in Texas 09-04-2010 09:39 AM ET (US) Below is a photo of another green intaglio, my favorite color, with a glass design that is regularly seen in collections. Sometimes I think the glass is the thing that makes the piece, but at other times the frame makes it POP. I d say the intricate, jeweled frame that wraps around the outer top edge of the glass is the eye catcher on this one. 30 Nancy Dietel 09-04-2010 10:39 AM ET (US)

Page 8 of 47 Oh, Debi and Judy, I am drooling over the lovely intaglios you both posted. The frames are exquisite. It is taking me a little longer these days, but I plan to post some of mine. Just need energy and motivation to take photos. Love this topic. Nancy D 31 Jane Koble 09-04-2010 01:25 PM ET (US) Hi, Judy in Texas: Nothing wrong with changing salts around in holders! I have often bought them without any salts or enough salts to fill them. And if you looked at my cart, which was the first thing posted, I had to put that red salt in when I found it! Jane 32 Jane Koble 09-05-2010 01:19 PM ET (US) Phil finally took all intaglios in frames. Here they are! He's still learning with the digital camera so some of them could be a little better. Also, he didn't take my stickers off, so some of them are showing. Page 13 of 47 48 Judy in Texas 09-05-2010 01:41 PM ET (US) Jane There are some great unusual pieces in your collection. I think I ve seen the green feathery glass one in three colors now. Yours in green, mine in yellow and I believe Mary Kern has one in pink. The goat cart can travel to Texas anytime. Judy in Texas 49 Judy in Texas 09-05-2010 01:53 PM ET (US) One from my "Clear Period" 50 Judy in Texas 09-05-2010 01:54 PM ET (US) Another from my Clear Period...One of my favorites. 51 Judy in Texas 09-05-2010 01:56 PM ET (US) Thought I d subject you all to my Clear Period. A few years back I was going through a different stage in my life and I noticed a change in my collecting habits. I d say about 95% of the salts I bought were clear for some time. The phenomena didn t stop me from finding a few intaglios; including some in frames. Judy in Texas 52 Jane Koble 09-05-2010 02:02 PM ET (US) Hi, Judy: I love the round clear one! The goat cart is the only one I've ever seen. In fact, I've never even seen anything close to it. I've always thought some rich person commissioned it, or maybe a set, for himself. Jane 53 mary kern 09-05-2010 05:50 PM ET (US) I want them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This isn't an area that I've collected, but how great to see such stunning ones. Mary, you have a couple that are astounding! Nice just to see you posting them too! Page 25 of 47 Another like Susie's salt. 80Judy in Texas 09-06-2010 07:46 AM ET (US) Bottom of salt below. 81 Judy in Texas 09-06-2010 07:48 AM ET (US) Susie I have a relative to your triangular based salt. The framework is heavier on this salt than on any other one I have. And, I found the bottom rather uncommon. The craftsman that made them didn t leave a thing undone. Even the bottom has a layer of ornate metal work. Lisa Didn t I see you post one awhile back that has the same frame with a butterfly intaglio? Judy

Page 26 of 47 82 Susie P 09-06-2010 08:07 AM ET (US) Judy, You are right! The bottom is spectacular too! Can you imagine a table with several of these on it? and probably jeweled place card holders as well? Wowee! This is by far the heaviest of mine as well; even my multiples don't weigh as much as this - but they are more open framework...big difference in the weight of the salts too, even the same intaglio; some of mine are much deeper than others. Looking at Jane's gorgeous red! it even looks substantial... 83 Judy in Texas 09-06-2010 08:55 AM ET (US) Hi Eggo The set with the lady s head is neat. Does it have a face on both sides? Is the face china, glass??? The green slag glass multiple sure is different. Glad to see you getting back on line. Judy 84 mary kern 09-06-2010 09:48 AM ET (US) Hi Judy - The ladies head is a thin very shiny porcelain I think - Her back is just a continuation of her hair -- I have had a pink opaque intaglio for some time - Not quite sure why they made the pink, black or these green ones - You can see the intaglio only from the bottom - No amount of light lets you see it from the top -- Even with the red ones - enough light and you can see the design -- Really a curiosity piece -- Appreciate everyones welcoming - 28 days to collar removal - but then who is counting ------------ Eggo Me Mary 85 Susie P 09-06-2010 10:25 AM ET (US) Judy, I just realized one of my multiples is very similar in style to our triangular shape; very eavy, loaed with stones, and has faces on the end - and on t4h bottome they even put the "made in czech" button in the middle of a flower! Too cool - sorry my photos aren't clearer... 86Susie P 09-06-2010 10:27 AM ET (US)

I ve always concentrated on single intaglios, but I really think the multiple stands and hanging dishes are great, so I m going to try to acquire one or two as an At-A-Girl from me to me. Judy 94 Susie P 09-06-2010 05:17 PM ET (US) Judy, I am LOL - I started with multiples; not that I have many - and found myself going to singles :) - too funny! I spent most of the last couple days cleaning mine up so they would look pretty for the photos and the MOSS meeting - I think an At-a-girl gift to yourself is Perfect, having done that myself! I am sure there are more folks out there that have other intaglios to drool over, let's see more!! :) 95 Lisa Tiedeman 09-07-2010 02:39 PM ET (US)

Page 31 of 47 Wow!!! I am completely blown away by all of the gorgeous colors and styles here!!! Yes, Judy, I do have one with the butterfly Intaglio in it, and as soon as I get it out of the cabinet and photographed I will post it here. I think I am most proud of it because I nabbed it for $11. I still can't believe it! :) 96 Darla Ferguson 09-08-2010 10:29 AM ET (US) Hi Everyone: Since the first of September, I have been amazed at all the beautiful intaglios that have been posted. As a new collector, this is one area I have not ventured into (yet). I didn't even know what a multiple holder was until last week when I stumbled across one online that was absolutely gorgeous. Please keep the lovely pictures coming -- I am learning so much from all of you. 97 Nancy Villaverde 09-09-2010 04:49 PM ET (US) This is off-topic, but I think it's an unusual intaglio. I've had salts with this same design, never have seen a box like this one. It's tiny, 2 1/4" X 1 3/4". Frosted patterned frame around the intaglio that seems to float in the medallion. I have a couple photos I will add - I LOVE these little glass boxes; yours with the original paint is stunning; mine is clear; but they are so finely made - and the bird in green is an absolute fave! I am wondering if these might be ring boxes?? 101Susie P 09-09-2010 08:39 PM ET (US)

Page 36 of 47 Hi, Susie: The round one and the teardrop shape are parts of dresser sets. I'm not sure about the really small box. The bigger boxes are for cigarettes. I have a really neat one in sort of a peach color on a frame with elephant feet! Jane 110 Susie P 09-09-2010 09:04 PM ET (US) Hi Jane, Ooh, would love to see those dresser sets! Wow! You will have to post a pic of the one with elephant feet! Neat! I still have that slightly larger box I bought from you with the winged angel? fishing, with Poseiden in the background - one of my favorite intaglios! :) 111 Nancy Villaverde 09-09-2010 10:25 PM ET (US) Susie, browse through the catalogs for which Debi provided a link below. I don't think I see a dresser set that has these little boxes, but there are so many items I might have overlooked them. I have a larger amber box with intaglio in the cover that was probably a cigarette box. These tiny ones might have been patch boxes or trinkets as part of a dresser set. I love my tiny one even though one corner is lightly chipped, shows at back left in the photo. Nancy V 112 Susie P 09-09-2010 10:40 PM ET (US) Nancy, I didn't see them either; but saw lots of other items I liked :):) - yes, your box with color is stunning! :) 113 Nancy Villaverde 09-09-2010 11:03 PM ET (US) The amber one I'm calling a cigarette box is pretty small too, only about 2X3 1/8", 2" tall. I think it would hold the old pre-filter cigarettes. It might be a dresser box too. Common intaglio pattern of the dancing lady twirling a scarf with a child musician on each side. Sorry to have veered off the topic here, but not very repentant. Nancy V 114 Jane Koble 09-10-2010 01:45 PM ET (US) Have you seen the "rare intaglio glass salt and salt carriage" on ebay? I know her first love was perfume bottles and we'll see some of those as well. Gotta go pack. See some of you tomorrow for dinner! Debi 117 Sue R 09-17-2010 04:48 PM ET (US)

Jane 121 Ed Bowman 09-21-2010 11:29 AM ET (US) Hi All All you Intaglio Fans missed a great presentation and display of Intaglio's by Susie P. at our MOSS meeting held at The Potawatomi Inn in Pokagon State Park in North East Indiana this past week end. We sure had a great meeting...the Russian chair presentation was really nice as I don't really know anything about them...,and that was a lot of work!!!! Thanks! 127 Debi Raitz 09-21-2010 04:17 PM ET (US) I have already decided that our next subject will be salts that change color - like the fall leaves. Salts that go from one color to another like Burmese, Peachblow, Amberina, Blurina and Rubina. Not cut to clear or cameo types but the glass actually changes color. You can take your pictures ahead of time and be ready! Yes, our MOSS meeting with all the gorgeous Czech glass pieces - intaglios, perfume bottles and other glass - presented by Susie Proctor was wonderful. When the Empress has time to get the pictures done, we can share some here. Debi 128TukwilaCathy 09-21-2010 04:20 PM ET (US)

Page 40 of 47 My "special" intaglio 129 TukwilaCathy 09-21-2010 04:21 PM ET (US) Okay, my intaglio isn't in a holder, and it has a pretty common picture, but it's special to me because it is the only vaseline glass intaglio I've run across. Cathy 130 Debi Raitz 09-21-2010 04:38 PM ET (US) I have never seen very many vaseline ones either Cathy. The one that got away was in it's original case, with the cigarette butt-er and had the golfers on it. Larry told me to go to $75 but we still didn't win it. I do have an exact one in clear in the case with the butt-er though. Debi 131 TukwilaCathy 09-21-2010 10:00 PM ET (US) Wow! Sounds like I should consider myself very lucky to have gotten it for under $30, then. There are a few small nicks (typical for an intaglio), but nothing that mars the beauty of this one. Cathy 132 Debi Raitz 09-21-2010 10:07 PM ET (US) Has anyone ever had the top edges of an intaglio ground out to remove tiny nicks? We always have a glass grinder at our Depression Glass show in the spring. Anything that already has a ground and polished top would only increase the value I think. Just wondering... Debi 133 Nancy Villaverde 09-21-2010 11:06 PM ET (US)

Page 41 of 47 Debi, I've never had it done, but I had a jeweled holder with a number of intaglios in it, the type in which they are stacked one upon another rather than having separate frames for each. They were six-sided salts, and someone had previously polished some chipped edges. Some of the chips had been so bad you could still see the damage, but because they stacked and the first couple on top were in very good condition, I thought it helped the looks of the set. I sold it some time ago. I've kept only the cat in a bowler hat in blue in a jeweled holder. I didn't post a photo because I thought surely someone would post that one. Nancy V 134 Debi Raitz 09-22-2010 12:28 AM ET (US) Nancy V: You know I always love to look at any blue salt! Debi 135 Susie P 09-22-2010 07:21 AM ET (US) I have never had a salt touched up by a glass grinder; I know it is expensive - relatively - to repair ghips on my perfumes it is usually $20 or better - and so I would imagine a minimum might be $10-$15? I will ask them and see what they say... 136 Jane Koble 09-22-2010 10:20 AM ET (US) I've never had any intaglios ground. Of course, there are no glass grinders anywhere we go anymore, but I'm not sure if I would. Depends on just what the salt looks like, I guess. If they are really badly damaged, you couldn't grind it all away anyway. Jane 137 Debi Raitz 09-22-2010 02:35 PM ET (US) I once had the top ground on a salt at our glass show and it was only $6. If the cost is going to double what you pay for the piece, then it's probably not worth it. I just thought some of those elaborate holders deserved to hold perfect little pieces. It might just increase the value by another $15 if the glass was perfect too. I know our guy will be at the show here every year, but I wonder if anyone could just look up glass grinders in their area and find one who is inexpensive. Just a thought if you are so inclined. 138 Nancy Villaverde 09-24-2010 08:18 PM ET (US) Cat in Hat intaglio in frame with jewels at the ends.
