Dress Code Styles and Colors The collective appearance of a school s student body implies something about the values and attitudes of the school. The Green Vale School dress code is designed to allow for individual student choice and expression, while at the same time reflecting a degree of uniformity and consistency in student dress. The look is conservative in style and in color, so that families can avoid unnecessary fashion discussions and to insure that clothing does not become a focus or distraction for students during the school day. We have tried to ensure comfort and practicality, particularly in grades K-3, while recognizing the need for more formal dress as students get older and move into the upper grades. Stephen H. 2013-14 Dress Code GIRLS Grades K-3 Collared shirt and shorts, pants, skirt, jumper or skort (sweater optional) -or- Polo dress Socks and closed back shoes. Sneakers are permitted. Grades 4-5 Collared shirt and skirt, jumper or skort (sweater optional) -or- Collared shirt, pants or shorts, blazer or sweater -or- Polo dress Socks and closed back shoes. No sneakers. Grades 6-8 Collared shirt and skirt (sweater optional) -or- Collared shirt, pants or shorts, and blazer or cardigan sweater Socks and closed back shoes. No sneakers. Winter Dress Code Black or navy tights or ankle-length leggings are permitted. Boots are permitted. Grades K-3 BOYS Collared shirt, shorts or pants (sweater optional) Socks and closed back shoes. Sneakers are permitted. Grades 4-8 Button down shirt, shorts or pants, blazer, and tie Socks and closed back shoes such as bucks, Merrills, or Topsiders. No sneakers. Winter Dress Code Between January and March boys in grades 4-9 may wear any solid colored sweater and no tie instead of a jacket and tie and may substitute a turtleneck in place of a shirt and tie. Boots are permitted. Please Note: For boys and girls, cargo pants, crop pants, pencil pants, jeans or jeans-style pants, or clothing that is otherwise too short, tight, or casual is not permitted. All clothing must be neat, clean, and in good repair.
