Keynote Speaker: Suzanne Schreiber, OP Suzanne Schreiber, OP is a Dominican Sister of Adrian. She has been a teacher in the areas of religious studies, art and photography and has served as a campus minister and coordinator of a parish adult faith formation program. She has also worked with a program that connects ecology, social justice and spirituality. Photography, music and spirituality are central to her ministry. Recent photography projects include: Documentary photos for the Dominican Literacy Center and the Capuchin Soup Kitchen Art Program in Detroit. Stations of Recovery for seven Hospital Behavioral Health Units, for Catholic Health Partners, Cincinnati, Ohio. Portraits and nature photos for a booklet to accompany stories told by adult students at the Dominican Literacy Center, Detroit. 1000 Cranes Project for Iraq project. Suzanne received her Bachelor s degree in Art from Siena Heights University, a Master of Education degree in Art Education from Wayne State University, a Master s degree in Religious Studies from Mundelein/Loyola in Chicago. She studied photography at Maine Photographic Workshops. The Art of Käthe Kollwitz Käthe Kollwitz, German Expressionist, was born in 1867. She lived through two world wars, the Industrial Revolution and the rise of Hitler. In her work she communicates her personal melancholy and sense of compassion; she makes visible a suffering society in which hunger, unemployment, war and death prevail. Kollwitz responded to the social injustices of her time through her etchings, lithographs, woodcuts and sculptures. Her time was like ours as artists today respond with compassion and a desire for peace. *Panel Discussion will follow. WORKSHOPS Thursday - 1:30-3:00 Art as a Meditation: A Lectio with Barbara Schwarz, OP We will be doing a lectio divina through a number of art forms, quiet time and sharing at the end. Single session. Collaborative Art: Leave Your Ego at the Door with Elaine Taylor, OP Each participant will receive a large sheet of paper and will be given a different medium with which to work. They will be given 5 minutes to start a work of art at which time a bell will ring and they will move to the right to work in their media on the next paper. After everyone has had their turn with it, the artist can go around again if there s time. All the artists can sign the back of the papers. Media: Conte Crayon. Watercolor, Charcoal. Pastels. Colored Pencils, Drawing Pencils, Markers, Pen & Ink, Graphite, Crayons. The finished products will be works of art in 10 media by 10 artists. Single Session. Digitizing Your Art with Aneesah McNamee, OP Learn how to take your art from concrete, 2D, paper or canvas to a digitized form. Mindfulness: A Way of Seeing Deeply, Listening Deeply with Esther Kennedy, OP The human heart is always drawn by love. FRIDAY JULY 28 Thursday - 3:30-5:00 MOVIE: Packed in a Trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Lake Wilkinson [documentary] Packed in a Trunk uncovers the story of artist Edith Lake Wilkinson, committed to an asylum in 1924 and never heard from again. We follow the journey of Edith s great-niece as she pieces together the mystery of Edith s life and returns her work to Provincetown. Aneesah McNamee, OP will show this movie at 3:15 in Auditorium. Permaculture: TOUR with Elaine Johnson A walking tour (golf cart option) through 7 acres of permaculture principles in practice at the ADS campus. Special areas highlighted: the developing edible food forest, community garden, berms and swales system, hugel mounds, accessible garden, and rain gardens. Writing Your Autobiography with Mary Sue Kennedy, OP Going over some basic steps to begin writing your Autobiography.
