WINTER SOLSTICE *JUST BE* In the Northern Hemisphere, winter solstice is the shortest day of the year and the longest night. Ever since the summer solstice, the days have slowly been getting shorter and the nights longer. After winter solstice, the days will slowly start to become longer and the nights shorter. In the southern hemisphere, it is the complete opposite; winter solstice is the longest day of the year. In Alaska, it is daylight all through the night. Ancient cultures recognized winter solstice and celebrated or honored this day. Some cultures today still celebrate and honor winter solstice. Winter solstice in the northern hemisphere is about welcoming the light back after the short days and long nights. Winter solstice is the time to slow down, go within and reflect on your life. Can you feel the stillness and quiet in nature? The trees have lost their leaves and the plants are dormant and barely doing anything. Just like nature, it is natural for us to want to Just Be at this time. Winter Solstice is a powerful day to intentionally review your life and allow inspiration to flow to you and create a life living your passion. It is an excellent day to jot down your thoughts. Watch how to make it here: http://www.joanmorais.com/blog/make-nourishing-skin-balm/ 1 cup organic coconut oil 2 cups organic dried calendula petals Directions to Make Step 1 Ready double boiler and heat up water in the base pot. Step 2 Measure coconut oil and add to top pot of the double boiler and melt coconut oil over low heat. Step 3 Measure calendula flowers and add to the melted coconut oil. Infuse calendula petals into the coconut oil over very low heat (just warm-high heat will ruin the coconut oil) for 4-6 hours until the color and scent of the calendula flower infuses into the coconut oil. Make sure not to leave the double boiler unattended. An alternative method is to turn the double boiler on and warm the oil (don t allow oil to get hot) for 30 minutes and then turn it off and let set overnight. Do this for 3 days. Coconut oil is firm below 76F, above 76F it will be liquid. Directions to Use Apply a small amount skin balm to the skin and massage into the skin. 7

WHAT DO I WANT IN THE COMING NEW YEAR? 11
WHAT IS SOMETHING SIMPLE I CAN START TODAY TO CARE FOR MYSELF BETTER? 12
Two Questions You Should Ask Yourself Each Day Oprah says to ask yourself these questions each day: "What do I have to do to get where I need to be?" "How do I create the life I want?" 13
WORDS TO LIVE BY Robert Louis Stevenson s Daily Dozen 1. Make up your mind to be happy. Learn to find pleasure in simple things. 2. Make the best of your circumstances. No one has everything, and everyone has something of sorrow intermingled with the gladness of life. The trick is to make the laughter outweigh the tears. 3. Don t take yourself too seriously. 4. You can t please everybody. Don t let criticism worry you. 5. Don t let your neighbor set your standards. Be yourself. 6. Do things that you enjoy doing. 7. Don t borrow trouble. Imaginary things are harder to bear than the actual ones. 8. Since hate poisons the soul, do not cherish enmities, grudges. Avoid people who make you unhappy. 9. Have many interests. 10. Don t hold postmortems. Don t spend your life brooding over sorrows and mistakes. Don t be the one who never gets over things. 11. Do what you can for the less fortunate than yourself. 12. Keep busy at something. A busy person never has time to be unhappy. 14
