The 27 MHz technology: The different technologies available on the market for electrolysis devices bring up a lot of questions. Several people wonder what the differences are between the various radiofrequencies, and what the advantages are for the ultra fast 27 MHz units. A Little Bit of History A radio wave is the emission of an electromagnetic field into the atmosphere or through a conductor. It is important to understand the effects that certain radio waves can produce in order to better identify their advantages and their limits during the hair removal process. Radio waves cannot be used by just anyone, anyhow, anywhere. In fact, they are ruled by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), an independent American government agency established in 1934. This agency works to standardize international regulations on radio wave communication used by radios, televisions, satellites, cable, medical devices, etc. In America, the FCC manages the licensing and determines the specifications related to the frequency, power, width, modulation, and location or country of the emission. For electrolysis devices, we must refer to ISM radiofrequencies of 6,78 MHz, 13,56 MHz, 27,12 MHz, and 40,68 MHz. Those are reserved to the medical, industrial, and scientific application fields in order to avoid unintended interferences with other wave categories. These frequencies are not used to communicate, but rather to produce a heating effect. They must meet several technological requirements and international standards, and cannot be compared to the waves emitted by radio and television stations, or by cell phones. In order to better understand the advantages of the 27 MHz frequency and the importance of this technological breakthrough, it is important to review the progress of the technique applied to the electrolysis field. From 1940 to the end of the 60 s, several medium wave diathermy devices (thermolysis) have been sold in the United States and around the world. Those very simple hair removal machines had a frequency fluctuating between 535 KHz, 1,75 MHz, 3,35 MHz, and 6,75 MHz. The intensity of the current was adjusted with the help of a single button, and a pedal was used to control its transmission time (in seconds). For electrolysis devices, we must refer to ISM radiofrequencies of 6,78 MHz, 13,56 MHz, 27,12 MHz, and 40,68 MHz... 27 MHz years of evolution In the 70 s and 80 s, regulations prompted manufacturers to develop hair removal equipment using the authorized medical frequency of 13,56 MHz. The technology had to be more sophisticated, and the arrival of transistors allowed to better control the exit of the radio wave. However, the arrival of the new Apilus Platinum system using the 27 MHz radiofrequency is, without a doubt, that which has marked the electrolysis market in the last few years. After more than 2 years of research and development, it is in 2005 that Dectro International unveiled this unique technology that surpasses the efficacy and comfort of conventional electrolysis machines, even today. Why Use the 27MHz Radiofrequency? Another technical explanation is the fact that the 27 MHz frequency allows for a better absorption of the power by the water molecules contained in the follicle. It then takes less power at a frequency of 27 MHz to perform a hair removal treatment than it would take at a lesser frequency. With the same amount of power, the 27 MHz signal is then applied for a shorter period of time, which increases the level of comfort for the client. POWER POWER Prior to testing this technology and confirming our theories, we had to invest in the creation of a circuit capable of providing a regularized radiofrequency of 27,12 MHz that met the strictest medical requirements (IEC 60601-1- 2-2), and generated enough energy to produce an effective electrocoagulation of the hair follicles. A Mirage Called Applisonix Dario Zujo, International Business Development, Dectro International, Québec, Canada Do you remember Applisonix Selectif Pro, this miraculous ultrasound tweezer which was intended to replace electrolysis on the permanent hair removal market? The manufacturer of Applisonix claimed that the tweezer could radiate ultrasound waves and that this energy could then be led to the base of the follicle, by the hair, where heat was created. All this, along with the promise zero pain, zero skin reaction.
