Competitions Student and Licensed Professional Competitions @ Sunday, June 2 - Monday, June 3, 2013 GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS Only currently licensed cosmetologists or enrolled students qualify for entry into the event. All competitions are under the jurisdiction of the competition chairperson. Decision of the competition chairperson shall be final in matters concerning conduct and regulation of the competition. Any competitor that arrives after the starting time will forfeit all time lapsed, and/or may be disqualified. All competitors must furnish their own supplies and equipment including mannequin and mannequin holder. All competitors must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and sign a release form. The release allows, the show management company, and the Professional Beauty Association to use any photos taken during the event for industry and non-industry publication and promotion of this and future. Only one mannequin will be permitted per contestant per competition. Food is not permitted on the competition floor. At no time will smoking be permitted in the competition arena. Coaching from the audience will cause competitor to be penalized. All competitions are judged using the thirty (30) point International System. The judge chairperson s score will be sued to break any ties that may occur. Penalty points may be assigned by sages based upon the International System. Final scores of all competitors will be posted following the awards ceremony. Props are not allowed unless specified in the specific contest rules. Penalties will be posted if the hair length at the start of the competition does not meet contest rules. Compliance of amount of hair to be cut will be watched carefully. Penalty points will be assessed if the competitor does not meet this requirement. Please note that the total wattage per electrical outlet is 1800 watts. All blow dryers must be marked with wattage. PBA reserves the right to cancel any competition with less than five competitors. In the event of a cancellation, competitors will be notified by phone and email by May 25, 2013. QUALIFICATIONS LICENSED PROFESSIONAL: To qualify to enter a contest as a Licensed Professional, the contestant must be currently licensed and show proof of licensure. All work must be done using a mannequin. Live models are not allowed. STUDENT: To qualify to enter a contest as a student/ junior, the contestant must be currently enrolled in cosmetology school on the day of the competition and show proof of enrollment. The contestant may NOT, however, be currently licensed as a professional cosmetologist in any state or country. All work must be done using a mannequin. Live models are not allowed. Technical: Creative SCHEDULE - Sunday, June 2, 2013 7:30am 9:00am 9:25am 9:35am 10:15am DESIRED RESULT: The competitors will perform a Creative Hairstyle showing their creative skills on wet hair. Competitors will be given 3 minutes to wet hair prior to the competition start time. If the hair is not wet enough, the Wise Men (facilitators) will wet the hair again. STYLING: All styling tools are allowed. PRODUCTS: All products are allowed. COLOR: The use of colors is option and must be pre-done. Spray colors are forbidden. SUPPORTS: The use of any kind of supports is forbidden. HAIR ADDITIONS: Hairpieces and ornaments of all kinds are forbidden. HAIR EXTENSIONS: Up to 20% of separate hair extensions can be used to add volume, length and (optional) contrasting color. This must be done in advance. Double-hair strips are forbidden. Hair extensions with clips are forbidden - all extensions must be fixed with bonds. JURY: The Jury will judge the general impression of the style and color. When judging, the judges must be able to see the complete hairstyle, including the top. If this is not the case, the stewards will put the mannequin holders lower. PENALTIES: Competitors who do not observe the instructions will be penalized according to the penalty chart enforced by the Wise Men. TIME 25 MINUTES: (this includes 5 additional minutes for dressing the mannequin head. Once the competition is stopped, no additional time is given). If this rule is not respected, the competitor will be penalized by 5 points. NOTE: Scores Maximum: 30 points. Minimum: 21 points. No electric plugs are available in the competitor preparation areas. Technical: Hair by Night SCHEDULE - Sunday, June 2, 2013 9:00am 10:45am 11:25am 11:35am 12:00pm DESIRED RESULT: This competition is a technical evening hairstyle. Competitors will use the same or a different mannequin head as in the Creative test, if applicable, with hair re-wetted. Competitors will be given 3 minutes to wet the hair. If the hair is not wet enough, the Wise Men (facilitators) will wet the hair again. STYLING: The competitors have 40 minutes to create the Hair by Night from start to finish, including the integration of the hairpieces. STYLING TOOLS: All styling tools are allowed. COLOR: The use of colors is optional and must be predone. Spray colors are forbidden. HAIRPIECE(S): a) A minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 hairpieces may be used, but must not be pre-styled. The hair of the hairpieces must be presented straight, laying on the table without preparation, ready to be brushed and inspected by the Wise Men (facilitators). b) The diameter of each hairpiece must not exceed 2 inches (5 cm) in any direction. c) The hair length of the hairpieces is optional. d) The hairpiece(s) must be harmoniously integrated into the hairstyle during the allowed competition time. The hairpieces must not cover more than 40% of the surface of the head. The competitors can use scissors to clean up their style at the end of the competition within the allowed time. e) Wigs are forbidden. HAIR EXTENSIONS: Up to 20% of separate hair extensions can be used to add volume, length and contrasting (optional) color. This must be done in advance. Double-hair strips are forbidden. Hair extensions with clips are forbidden - all extensions must be fixed with bonds. SUPPORTS: The use of any kind of supports in the hairstyle and in the hairpiece(s) is forbidden. ORNAMENTS: Ornaments are allowed. CLOTHES: must be elegant and wearable, as if attending an evening party. JURY: The Jury will judge the general impression of the style and color. When judging, the judges must be able to see the complete hairstyle, including the top. If this is not the case, the stewards (facilitators) will put the mannequin holders lower. PENALTIES: Competitors who do not observe the instructions will be penalized according to the penalty chart enforced by the Wise Men (facilitators). TIME 45 MINUTES: (this includes 5 additional minutes for dressing the mannequin head. Once the competition is stopped, no additional time is given). If this rule is not respected, the competitor will be penalized by 5 points. NOTE: Scores: Maximum: 30 points. Minimum: 21 points. No electric plugs are available in the competitor preparation areas. Fashion on Long Hair: Day Style SCHEDULE - Sunday, June 2, 2013 11:00am 12:30pm 1:00pm 1:10pm 1:45pm DESIRED RESULT: The competitor will create a fashionable hairstyle on long hair. The complete hairstyle must be loose and styled down. The finished hairstyle must be consumeroriented. Mannequin heads are taken to the competition floor with straight hair. The hair must not be pre-styled. The respect of this instruction will be checked by the Wise Men (facilitators), who will brush the hair flat back. HAIR LENGTH: The hair must be shoulder length or longer. Layers are optional. The minimum layered length must be 10 cm, except in the bang area. COLOR: The use of colors option and must be predone. Spray colors are forbidden. STYLING TOOLS: All styling tools are allowed. At finish, NO pins or clips must be left in the hair. STYLING: The complete hairstyle must be loose and styled down. Only 25% of the hair can be dressed up. PRODUCTS: All products are allowed. HAIR EXTENSIONS: Up to 20% of separate hair extensions can be used to add volume, length and contrasting (optional) color. This must be done in advance. Doublehair strips are forbidden. Hair extensions with clips are forbidden - all extensions must be fixed with bonds. SUPPORTS: The use of any kind of supports in the hairstyle is forbidden. ORNAMENTS: Ornaments of any kind are forbidden. CLOTHES: The clothes must be adapted to the hairstyle. JURY: The Jury will judge the general impression of the style and color. When judging, the judges must be able to see the complete hairstyle, including the top. If this is not the case, the stewards (facilitators) will put the mannequin holders lower. PENALTIES: Competitors who do not observe the instructions will be penalized by the Wise Men (facilitators) according to the penalty point chart in force. Fashion on Long Hair: Evening Style SCHEDULE - Sunday, June 2, 2013 1:00pm 2:15pm 2:40pm 2:50pm 3:30pm DESIRED RESULT: The competitor will create a fashionable evening hairstyle on long hair with a total look in mind. The finished hairstyle must be consumer-oriented. Mannequin heads are taken to the competition floor with straight hair. Pins and/or rollers are forbidden prior to the start of the test. The competitors brush the hair back before the competition starts. The Wise Men (facilitators) will check whether these instructions have been observed. The complete hairstyle can be dressed up. 25% may be dressed down (optional). The competitors can use scissors to clean up their style at the end of the competition within the allowed time. HAIR LENGTH: The hair must be shoulder length or longer. Layers are optional. The minimum layered length must be 10 cm, except in the bang area. COLOR: The use of colors optional and must be predone. Hair extensions with clips are forbidden - all extensions must be fixed with bonds. SUPPORTS: The use of any kind of supports in the hairstyle is forbidden. ORNAMENTS: A maximum of two (2) decorative pins is allowed, but the surface covered by each decorative pin must not exceed 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter. CLOTHES: The clothes must be adapted to the hairstyle. JURY: The Jury will judge the general impression of the style and color. When judging, the judges must be able to see the complete hairstyle, including the top. If this is not the case, the stewards (facilitators) will put the mannequin holders lower. PENALTIES: Competitors who do not observe the instructions above will be penalized according to the penalty chart enforced by the Wise Men (facilitators). TIME 25 MINUTES: (this includes 5 additional minutes for dressing the mannequin head. Once the competition is stopped, no additional time is given). Ladies Trend Cut, Color and Style SCHEDULE - Monday, June 3, 2013 8:30am 9:30am 10:10am 10:20am 11:00am DESIRED RESULT: Cut, style and color on a mannequin representing current mainstream consumer fashion trends oriented to the younger consumer. Competitor must provide a magazine tear sheet showing inspiration for the finished look. MANNEQUIN: Any type of mannequin is acceptable. You must provide your own mannequin and table clamp mannequin holder. Tripods are allowed during the competition, but final looks must be judged on table clamp stands. HAIR LENGTH: Prior to the start of competition, the hair length must be at least four (4) inches all over the mannequin head. A line and design change must be evident at finish of cut. PREPARATION OF HAIR: The hair must be wet and combed straight back prior to the competition. The wise men (judges) will wet hair again if necessary. No artificial hair is allowed. CUTTING: All cutting tools are allowed. The hair must be cut a minimum of one (1) inch during the allowed time. STYLING: All styling tools are allowed. One (1) electrical outlet is provided with 1800 WATT maximum. PRODUCTS: All styling products are allowed. COLOR: Any color is allowed and must be pre-done. Spray colors are forbidden. MAKE-UP/ PAINT: Mannequin make-up/painting of the face and bust is allowed and may be pre-done. CLOTHING: Mannequin dressing, make-up and accessories must compliment the finished style. No props are allowed. COMPETITION TIME: 40 minutes NOTE: Five (5) minutes are allocated after each competition to dress and accessorize the mannequin. No clothing may extend below the bust. During judging, mannequins will stay on the holder affixed to the dressing tables. Tripods may be used during the competition but must be removed and mannequins must be placed in a holder affixed to the table for judging. 7 pro.org/competitions

Long Hair Bridal SCHEDULE - Monday, June 3, 2013 10:30am 11:30am 12:00pm 12:10pm 1:00pm DESIRED RESULT: A fashionable long hair bridal look on a mannequin that represents a consumer focused bridal look appropriate for a fashionable wedding. Hair may be styled as an up-do or down. Degree of difficulty in achieving the final style will, however, be considered as part of the judging. Competitor must provide a magazine tear sheet showing inspiration for the bride s finished look. MANNEQUIN: Any type of mannequin is acceptable. You must provide your own mannequin and table clamp mannequin holder. Tripods are allowed during the competition, but final looks must be judged on table clamp stands. PREPARATION OF HAIR: Hair may be pre-set (optional) in any manner but must be brushed back flat at the start of the competition. Hair color is optional and open. HAIRPIECES: Hairpieces and/or extensions are not allowed. All artificial hair is forbidden. PRODUCTS: All styling products are allowed. COLOR: Any color is allowed and must be pre-done. Spray colors are forbidden. ORNAMENTS: Ornaments must be proportional to the hairstyle and cannot cover more than one third of the hair design. Extreme use will be penalized. Ornaments made of hair or similar fibers are forbidden. MAKE-UP / PAINT: Mannequin make-up/painting of the face and bust is allowed and may be pre-done. STYLING: All styling tools are allowed. One electrical outlet is provided with 1800 WATT maximum. CLOTHING: Mannequin dressing, make-up and accessories must complement the finished style. No props are allowed. COMPETITION TIME: 30 minutes NOTE: Five (5) minutes are allocated after each competition to dress and accessorize the mannequin. No clothing may extend below the bust. During judging, mannequins are put on the holder affixed to the dressing tables. Fantasy - Inspired by Hollywood SCHEDULE - Monday, June 3, 2013 12:30pm 1:30pm 2:30pm 2:45pm 3:15pm DESIRED RESULTS: Competitors choice of one (1) male or one (1) female mannequin representing the competitor s vision for a Hollywood inspired fantasy theme. The following definition will serve as a guide: - Fantasy: extravagant and unrestrained imagination. Wondrous or strange fancies. Let your imagination be your guide, using hair as your medium to express a fantasy hair design inspired by Hollywood. Competitor will be required to provide a magazine tear sheet or brief paragraph describing what inspired you to make your design and the name of your design. *NOTE: Contest is unisex - male or female mannequin may be used. Note, however, that separate awards will NOT be given to male vs. female mannequins. MANNEQUIN: Any type of mannequin is acceptable. You must provide your own mannequin and table clamp mannequin holder. Tripods are allowed during the competition, but final looks must be judged on table clamp stands. PREPARATION OF THE HAIR: The hair may be pre-cut and colored as well as pre-set (i.e. in rollers, etc.) but must be brushed back flat at the start of the competition. Hair may not be pre-styled (finished) at the start of the competition. ORNAMENTATION AND ARTIFICIAL HAIR: Both ornamentation and artificial hair are allowed but may not be pre-attached. Ornamentation and artificial hair may not cover more than 50% of the surface of the head. No full wigs are allowed. COLOR: Any hair color is allowed and must be pre-done. No spray colors are allowed on site, but may be used for pre-done color. MAKE-UP / PAINT: All make-up and painting is allowed and may be pre-done. CLOTHING / COSTUMES / PROPS: All must be appropriate for public presentation to all ages. Neither costumes nor props may extend beyond a three foot radius from the competitors assigned area. Make-up and costuming may be pre-done. NOTE: Ten (10) minutes are allocated after each competition to dress and accessorize the mannequin. Any clothing must not extend below the bust. During judging, mannequins are put on the holder affixed to the dressing tables. Tripods may be used during the competition but must be removed and mannequins must be placed in a holder affixed to the table for judging.
