Paints, lacquers, varnishes and other architectural coatings typically contain carcinogenic (cancer-causing) substances, solvents, VOC s (volatile organic compounds) and other various toxic agents. The voluntary environmental labelling standard for architectural and protective coatings identifies products that use safer alternative ingredients, or substances at levels which are not considered as hazardous, that perform equally and if not better than traditional coating products whilst placing a significantly lesser load on the environment through their product life-cycle. After a comprehensive assessment undertaken by the Australian Environmental Labelling Association a number of BAUWERK Colour interior paints have been awarded an Australian Good Environmental Choice Licence. 2. Description of the verification. manages the Good Environmental Choice Mark of Conformity in conformance to ISO 14 024 International Standard for Third party Environmental Labelling and Declaration as the only product life cycle independent environmental declaration in Australia (www.aela.org.au). The organisation and is an independent non-profit environmental research and certification organisation recognised as the Australian member of an international network of ecolabelling schemes under the Global Ecolabelling Network. Following an independent audit against the recognition requirements of the Australian Ecolabel Program by the Australian Environmental Labelling Association Inc (AELA) the products have been awarded the "Good Environmental Choice" label for the Australian market. The Ecolabel is awarded to those products that meet or exceed voluntary standards of environmental performance. The verification procedure is managed via a Documented Quality Management System and Certification Program Manuals which have made significant use of the ISO 14 000 series. The following standards have been adapted to the programs requirements, ISO 14 001, 14 0012, the 14020 series, 14 031 environmental performance evaluation, 14040. Environmental and Social Regulatory Obligations: The BAUWERK Colour Pty Ltd manufacturing operations in Fremantle, Western Australia is not required to hold a state EPA emissions licence due to a unique situation with lime-based paints. No breaches of local environmental regulations have been found by AELA in its assessment of the Fremantle site or have any been submitted by the manufacturer. BAUWERK Colour Pty Ltd also complies with all relevant social regulations, including occupational health and safety, employee remuneration and anti-discrimination.
