BROOKFIELD PLACE ANNOUNCES MOVE! An Interactive Art and Fashion Exhibition curated by Cecilia Dean and David Colman from October 2 nd -4 th, 2015, at Brookfield Place New York (New York, New York) September 10, 2015- Brookfield Place New York is proud to announce MOVE!, an interactive exhibition that celebrates art and fashion, curated by Visionaire cofounder Cecilia Dean and noted writer David Colman. MOVE! couples artists from various disciplines, including visual art, performance and dance, with noted fashion designers to create one-of-a-kind experiences for the public to participate in from October 2-4, 2015. The exhibition, produced in partnership with Josh Wood Productions, features seven artist/designer collaborations including Ryan McNamara & Diane Von Furstenberg, Rob Pruitt & Proenza Schouler and Olaf Breuning & Cynthia Rowley. MOVE! begins in the iconic Winter Garden at Brookfield Place New York, the newly opened luxury/lifestyle destination in Lower Manhattan. The seven conceptual collaborations, known as movements, will continue throughout the waterfront property over the course of the three days. Participants can put on a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress and get a make-over, live out their red-carpet fantasies or become a real-life supermodel on Proenza Schouler s greenscreen runway. On opening day, October 2 nd, visitors are invited to celebrate with Brookfield Place from 5PM- 8PM with special in-store events hosted by the retailers, including a Fashion Talk on Timeless Trends with Brandon Holley, former Editor-in-Chief of Lucky Magazine and founder of Everywear.com, along with former Lucky Magazine Fashion Director, Hope Greenberg. Dean and Colman conceived the movements to represent a new and engaging model of participatory art installations. As longtime chroniclers of art, fashion and culture, the pair bring their passions to life through the presentation of MOVE!, bridging art and fashion in a groundbreaking way. "One of the important things about MOVE! is that we never call our movements just art or fashion, because those words can suggest exclusivity to some people. It s just engaging and unique and fun and cool and here for everyone, said Dean. We love that everyone can experience MOVE! without feeling like they have to see it labeled a certain way, adds Colman. And at the same time, it s conceptually provocative and layered enough to keep you thinking about it for days afterward.
MOVE!, was first produced in 2010 at MoMA-PS1 and again in 2013 in São Paulo, Brazil, both to tremendous attendance and acclaim. Debra Simon, vice president and artistic director of Arts Brookfield, noted, We are thrilled to be working with Cecilia, David and the world-class designers and artists committed to this project. MOVE! showcases unique collaborations between art, fashion and retail and positions Brookfield Place as a best-in-class destination. For 2015, the duo has re-envisioned the MOVE! exhibition with imaginative movements created by collaborative teams of artists and designers including; Rob Pruitt & Proenza Schouler, Ryan McNamara & Diane Von Furstenberg, Olaf Breuning & Cynthia Rowley; Kate Gilmore & Italo Zucchelli for Calvin Klein Collection; James Kaliardos & Cos Bar featuring Yves Saint Laurent Beauty products; Elana Langer & Le District; and another exciting pairing to be announced over the coming weeks. This year s Movements include: LOOKS Artist: Rob Pruitt / Designer: Proenza Schouler Participants are directed to strut down a long, green-screen runway. Then, upon exiting, they are able to watch themselves (via a time-delay video link) superimposed into one of the most fabulous runway shows in the world, elevating them into the fantasy realm of supermodeldom all from the solitary, remote safety of a green-screen studio. http://www.vimeo.com/16600968 POSE Designer: Artist: Ryan McNamara / Diane Von Furstenberg Participants put on a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress and are given a quick makeover. Then, McNamara photographs them in methodical, precise poses. The photos are instantaneously edited and digitally silhouetted to create an intricate, repetitive textile pattern. Participants can then actually purchase a DVF wrap dress (via printallover.me) made from the same textile bearing their pattern, taking the concept of selfieabsorption to a new and kaleidoscopic level. SPLATTER Artist: Olaf Breuning/ Designer: Cynthia Rowley An engaging enquiry on the difference between artwork and frock, Splatter also puts the participant in the role of the creator, carnival-style. It starts with a great white wall of canvas adorned with zippers; in front of this wall is a vast scaffold lined with cups of paint. Participants are given five balls each; whoever successfully knocks three paint cups over (and onto the canvas) gets a prize one of the artworks, made from the canvas when it is taken down and cut up. (Courtesy of the zipper, it can also be worn as a garment.)
A STAR IS BORN Artist: Kate Gilmore / Designer: Italo Zucchelli for Calvin Klein Collection Designed to draw the average person into the fantasy realm of red-carpet premieres, awards shows, state dinners and court receptions, A Star is Born plays with feminine dreams of glory as imagined on the covers of romance novels. Participants are escorted by two handsome male models down a luxurious red carpet that descends down the Winter Garden s grand marble staircase and into its iconic grove of palm trees. At the end await the paparazzi to crystallize and capture the moment for eternity. CROSSOVER Artist: James Kaliardos / Designer: Cos Bar featuring Yves Saint Laurent Beauty products Participants have the unique opportunity to have their gender flawlessly transformed by a world-renowned makeup artist and his team. As participants are transformed from female to male or male to female, the makeup artists wear mini-cameras on their heads to capture the action from their perspectives. Videos are live-streamed onto a screen for everyone to watch, along with self-portraits taken after the transformation. The photos are projected for viewers to see and uploaded onto the Brookfield Place website. DANCE DEAL Artist: Elana Langer/ Designer: Le District Do the dance, get the deal. A radical new way to connect the personal act of dancing, the abstract nature of performance and the quotidian realm of commerce, Elana Langer s Dance Deal teaches participants a dance that will enable them to get a special free treat from Le District s pastry chef when performed in the store. It also turns everyday people into performers, creating mini-performances (and recruiting new performers) with every step. MOVE! will be free and open to the public for the duration of its three-day run.
