Chapter I Identify Your Face Shape Every person s face is unique, but theoretically there are seven basic face shapes. Knowing your exact face shape helps you identify what makeup, hairstyle, eyeglasses and clothes you should choose in order to enhance your best facial features and disguise the disproportions. Here is a simple way to find out which category you fit in: use a ruler, measure the length of your face from the top of your head to the tip of your chin (AB), measure as if your face is flat, divide the number by 3 (AB 3). Then measure the length from the bottom of your nose to the tip of your chin (CD) - this number represents one third of the length of your face, as the length of face is divided into 3 sections upper part, middle part and lower part. If CD is bigger than AB 3, you have an oblong or diamond-shaped face. If CD is smaller than AB 3, you have a round or square face. If CD and AB 3 are equal, you have an oval, heart or triangle face. Below is a sample illustration and computation: 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 5

Once you know what face shape you have, make yourself familiar with your facial characteristics and learn how to balance them with makeup, hairstyle, eyeglasses and neckline of your clothing. This way you can create the illusion of the perfect face! Oval Face This is considered to be the ideal face shape because it is well-balanced, not too sharp or angular, nor too rounded or full. Its characteristics are: the cheekbone area is wider than the forehead and jawline the forehead is wider than the chin the face looks wider at the cheekbones and narrows down towards the chin, which is narrow and oval. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 7

Round Face With its sweet and youthful appearance, the round face is as wide as it is long, a little narrower at the forehead and jawline. Its characteristics are: the face has no sharp angles, cheeks are full and chin is round the width and length of the face are almost equal the widest point of the face is across the cheekbones Square Face This is one of the most common face shapes along with the round face. The pronounced jawline offers some kind of royal aura to the face. Its characteristics are: the jaw is square and prominent the forehead, cheekbones and jaw have about the same width the forehead is wide Triangle Face (or Pear-shaped Face) Just like square face, the triangle face needs curves to balance out the angles and sweeten the jawline. Its characteristics are: prominent jaw narrow forehead Heart-shaped Face (or Inverted Triangle Face) 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 8

This is the opposite of the triangle face and it s very similar to the oval face, but the chin is much sharper. Its characteristics are: sharp small chin wide forehead and temples prominent cheekbones Oblong Face (or Rectangular Face) The oblong face has similar features with the square face, but it s longer, and it also looks similar to the oval face, only it s slightly narrower. Its characteristics are: the forehead, cheekbones and jaw line have the same width the chin tends to stand out Diamond-shaped Face This face shape is not very common. It s a combination between the oval face and the heartshaped face, but with a narrower forehead. Its characteristics are: the forehead and chin are narrow the cheekbones are wide the face has many angles and is wider at the temples 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 9

Chapter II Applying Makeup According to Your Face Shape Makeup trends change from one season to another. The sophisticated ombré lips from last fall are now replaced with dark, even black, lipstick that makes lips look glam-goth and mysterious; Smokey eyes is no longer a strictly night makeup, but a bold look to rock during daytime too. On the other hand, not all makeup styles and colors match your personality, not to mention skin complexion, hair color and eyes. The face shape is another important criterion to consider when looking for the perfect makeup, the one that can enhance your best facial features and disguise any disproportion. It s not 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 10

rocket Science, you just need to keep in mind some basic contour and correcting makeup rules. But first, you must properly identify your face shape. Oval Face The perfect visual balance between chin, forehead and cheekbones allows you to wear any type of makeup, without the need to contour your face in a particular way. Some simple makeup tips for oval faces: Contouring & Highlighting - Using your usual foundation should be enough, but if you want to accentuate even more the perfection of your face, use a highlighting product to illuminate the eyes area, forehead, nose and cheekbones. Eyes. Smokey eyes, cat eyes, Arabic, panda smudge, natural eye makeup you can choose whatever you like: all makeup styles look great on your oval face. Simply stick to this classic makeup rule: intensify either your eyes, or your lips. If you highlight them both simultaneously, your face will look too dramatic and your beautiful natural symmetry will be lost. Cheeks. To better define your lips and eyes, gently highlight your cheeks by either applying blush or a bronzer with a thick fluffy brush from the cheekbones to the temples, or use just a touch of blush on top of your cheeks. Lips. Balance your lips with your eye makeup: if you went dramatic for the eyes, maintain a natural look for your lips using nude, pastel and light lipstick tones to discreetly shape your lips. To better define your chin, use a lip liner and insist on your lower lip outline. Choose a similar shade with the one of the lipstick and contour the shape of your lips to keep the lipstick from migrating and make it last longer. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 11

Eyebrows. Keep them natural. Don t pluck too much and use a special pencil to contour and fill them in. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 12

Round Face The perfect makeup should elongate the round face in order to make it look more oval. Add shadow on the sides, highlight the cheeks, get an angular shape for eyebrows and make the eyes and lips pop to help the center of the face stand out. Contouring. You need to make your forehead and chin look more narrow; therefore use your usual foundation, then apply a slightly darker one (or a bronzer or a blush) on your temples, jawline and in the center of your cheeks. Apply a highlighter that is two shades lighter than your skin complexion on the center of your forehead and on your chin. Eyes. You should opt for heavy eye makeup to break the roundness of the face. Smokey eyes are the safest bet. Use light eyeshadow (nude, neutral, pastels) from the inner corner of the eye to the center of your lid and darker shadows in the outer corner. To better define your eye shape, use dark eyeliner and mascara on the lashes to make the eyes look rounder and bigger. Cheeks. To narrow your full cheeks, apply a pink or bronzer blush from the cheekbones to the temples. Don t use circular moves, but gently follow the line of the cheeks with ascending brush moves. You can use highlighter above the blush line in order to accentuate cheekbones even more. Lips. You should always emphasize your lips in order to draw attention to the center of your face. If you have a fair skin complexion, use creamy lipsticks in pastel colors to add shine to your look. Bright red, dark pink, burgundy or plum lipsticks look great on a round face with darker skin complexion. Eyebrows. Round faces need angular eyebrows to distract from roundness. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 13

2016 All Rights Reserved Page 14

Square Face To make the square face look more oval, you need to add shadow on both sides of the forehead and temples and add light to the center of the face. The lip makeup should be intense to distract from the harsh lines of the jaw. Contouring & Highlighting - Apply your usual foundation, then use bronzer or a slightly darker foundation on the sides of the forehead (blending it towards the temples), and on the jawline, to tame the straight lines of the face. Apply highlighter on the center of the forehead and at the base of the chin, slightly blending it towards the eyes and mouth. Eyes. Apply dark eyeshadow in the outer corners of the eyes and lighter tones for the inner corners. Use a round tip brush to create shadows around the eyes and make sure to maintain the edges round, with no harsh edges. Use a curling mascara to elongate lashes and make your face look longer. Cheeks. You need to draw attention to your cheekbones, so apply blush just below the bone of the cheek and don t blur too much towards the temples. Then apply a blush in a lighter shade directly on the cheek bone and blend well the two blushes. Lips. They need to stand out in order to make the jawline less visible. Use a lip liner similar to your lipstick color to outline lips and apply color especially in the center of the lips. Eyebrows. A square face will lose much of its harsh lines if the eyebrows follow a natural, slightly curved shape. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 15

2016 All Rights Reserved Page 16

Triangle Face (or Pear-Shaped Face) To make a triangle face look more oval and get close to the ideal face shape, you need to add light on the forehead and shadow on the left and right side of the jaw. Your eyes should look elongated and lips should distract from the chin. Contouring. To add length to your face and width to the forehead, use a darker foundation or bronzer to highlight the cheekbones and contour the jawline, then apply highlighter or a lighter foundation on the forehead. Eyes. Intense eye makeup, such as smokey eyes, is perfect to make the upper side of the face stand out and distract from the harsh jawline. Use dark eyeshadow in the outer corner of your eyes and apply multiple mascara layers to make your eyes look bigger and elongated. Cheeks. Use light colored blushes only on your cheekbones to draw attention to the center of your face. Don t blend the blush towards the ears and don t get to close to the nose, or your face will look even wider. Lips. As the jaw is already prominent, your lips must remain natural and discreet. Therefore, opt for nude and neutral lipsticks rather than intense and bright colors that will draw attention to the jaw area. It s also best not to use lip liners, just outline your lips using a lip brush - a too harsh contour will only sharpen your mouth shape and the jaw will become even more visible. Eyebrows. Triangle faces look best with long arched eyebrows. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 17

2016 All Rights Reserved Page 18

Heart-shaped Face (or Inverted Triangle Face) The perfect makeup should distract from the strong cheek bone structure and sharp chin, so you need to illuminate the chin and add shadow to the forehead and temples. Contouring & Highlighting - To make your face look more oval, you need to add width to your chin and reduce the width of your forehead. Apply a darker foundation or a bronzer on your temples and on both sides of your nose; use highlighter or a lighter foundation on your jawline, center of the forehead and above your cheekbones. Eyes. You don t want to draw attention to the upper side of your face, so it s recommended you makeup your eyes in light colors such as pink, golden, silver, peach, and avoid the harsh lines of liquid eyeliners. Cheeks. Must look natural: don t use too much product, just a touch of light blush to add little color to your cheeks. Since you already have prominent cheekbones, you don t need to use highlighter to make them stand out. Lips. You don t need more attention to the lower side of your face, so avoid bright lipsticks and opt for softer accents, like pink and nude shades. A simple trick to add more width to your narrow chin is to use more lip liner to the bottom lip, or color it in a slightly bolder color than the upper lip. Eyebrows. Go for thin and rather straight eyebrows that follow the natural line of the eye arcade. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 19

2016 All Rights Reserved Page 20

Oblong Face (or Rectangular Face) Oblong face can look more oval if you draw attention to the center of the face, reduce its length and make it look wider. Flat eyebrows shape and intense lips are essential to create the perfect makeup for oblong faces. Contouring. Use a darker foundation, blush or bronzer to add shadow in the center of the forehead (blend it towards the temples), on the chin, cheekbones and jawline. Blend the product well, so the lines won t look harsh, and apply highlighter on the chin and in the center of the cheeks. Eyes. The classic and sensual cat eyes is the perfect eye makeup for oblong faces. It will elongate the eyes and add some width to the face. You can use black, brown, navy blue or bright colored eyeliners, especially liquid eyeliners, as they tend to look more intense and create harsher lines. False lashes are also very useful to make the eyes look brighter and bigger and the face look wider around that area. Cheeks. Use light colored blushes or bronzers to gently accentuate your cheeks. Don t blend the product towards the temples, or your face will look longer than it actually is. Lips. Use intense and bright lipsticks to define your lips and draw attention to the lower area of your face. Sensual colored lips can tame an elongated chin and match perfectly with the cat eyes makeup. Eyebrows. Follow their natural shape and avoid high arches. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 21

2016 All Rights Reserved Page 22

Diamond-shaped Face In order to make the diamond-shaped face look more oval, you need to add light and width to the forehead and jawline and reduce the fullness from the cheekbones area. Contouring. To reduce your cheekbones appearance, apply bronzer or a darker blush or foundation on the outline of the cheeks, blending towards the outer corner of the eye. Also, apply a highlighting product or a lighter foundation on the chin, jawline and forehead, to create the illusion of width. Eyes. Opt for natural eye makeup with neutral, pale and silvery eyeshadow on the whole eyelid to widen your glance. Blend the shadow from the outer corner of your eyes to the brows and smudge some eyeliner close to the lashes to make your eyes pop. Cheeks. Since they already stand out, you don t need shiny or illuminating blushes, but rather brown or peach shades. Also, apply blush on the apples of the cheek, never underneath the cheekbones. Lips. They should remain neutral and natural, as bold lips appear too wide and can make the chin look even thinner. Neutral is better than bright, matte is better than glossy. Eyebrows. To help the forehead look wider, you should pluck your eyebrows slightly apart from the center and avoid creating any dramatic arch. Just follow your natural brow line. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 23

Chapter III Best Hairstyles for Your Face Shape The first step when you re looking for the best haircut you can get is to take account of your face shape. Oval, round, square, triangle, inverted triangle, diamond-shaped or oblong, the shape of the face should dictate the length, volume and style of the haircut. Sure, a good hairstylist should have the ultimate word, but it s also very important for you to broadly know what type of haircut looks great with your physiognomy. Here are the basic rules to guide you in finding what hairstyle is ideal for your face shape! Oval Face This is the ideal face shape, with cheekbones wider than the forehead and jawline, and the forehead wider than the chin, which is narrow and oval. What hairstyle is ideal for oval face? All hairstyles! Long, medium or short hair, all of them look great because the oval face is symmetrical and has well-balanced proportions. Nevertheless, 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 25

you should stay away from hairstyles that cover your face. If you have the ideal face shape, you should flaunt it, right? Best bangs for oval face? Almost any type, although long and too rebellious bangs could hide your beautiful face shape. Hairstyles to avoid. Too voluminous haircuts as well as long bangs and strands that cover your face won t do you any favor, as they can hide your perfect facial symmetry and even make you look chubbier. Round Face The round face has a sweet and youthful appearance as it has no sharp angles and the width and length of the face are almost equal, while the cheeks are full and the chin is round. What hairstyle is ideal for round face? The ideal hairstyle should make the face look less round and more elongated. Whether you have curls or straight hair, opt for more volume to the top of the head and a hair length that exceeds the chin. Side swept bangs and hair strands that surround the face can also create the illusion of a longer face. If your hair is rather curly, a 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 26

shorter haircut is recommended, while straight hair looks great on a round face if the haircut is asymmetric and shoulder length. Best bangs for round face? Side swept bangs, texturized or curly, can cut the roundness of the face, as opposed to bangs that fall right on the forehead and make the face look flat. Hairstyles to avoid. To hide the roundness of the cheeks, stay away from round haircuts that end near the chin, short bangs and don t add volume and texture for the hair around the ears. The short bob, the ponytail and symmetrical haircuts should also be avoided. Square Face One of the most common face shapes, the square face features a prominent square jaw and a wide forehead. What hairstyle is ideal for square face? The ideal haircut should tame the angles of the face and make it look more oval. Opt for medium or short hair and non-geometrical haircuts, as any straight or harsh line can highlight the squareness of the face. If you have long hair, let some 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 27

curls slightly cover your face and add some roundness to your facial features. Curls, side parting hairstyles, layered haircuts and thrown back hairstyles will always flatter square faces. Best bangs for square face? Textured side swept bangs can sweeten the angular appearance of a square face. Hairstyles to avoid. Short hair and middle part long straight hair can accentuate the square shape of the face. Triangle Face (Pear-shaped Face) With its prominent jaw and narrow forehead, the triangle face - just like the square one - needs curves to sweeten and balance out the angles. What hairstyle is ideal for triangle face? The best hairstyle should widen the forehead and diminish the jaw appearance. Therefore, the hair must have more volume and height on the top of the head and around the temples. The hair length should exceed the jawline and the bangs swept to the side. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 28

Best bangs for triangle face? Side swept bangs or straight bangs that reach the temples and create the illusion of volume for the upper part of the head. Hairstyles to avoid. Waves and curls that add volume to the chin area. Heart-shaped Face (Inverted Triangle Face) As opposed to the triangle face, the inverted triangle face features a sharp small chin, wide forehead and prominent cheekbones. What hairstyle is ideal for heart-shaped face? The best hairstyle for heart-shaped faces should add volume near the chin, neck and shoulders, therefore medium and shorter haircuts such as pixies, the bob and the lob are most recommended. If you like long hair, it should have some curls starting from the chin down, to add the much needed volume at the lower part of the head. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 29

Best bangs for heart-shaped face? Straight or curly bangs, swept to the side or with an asymmetric cut. Hairstyles to avoid. Bouffant hairstyles that add volume to the top of the head, as well as long straight hair and straight bob that highlight the triangle shape of the chin. Oblong Face Very similar to the oval face, the oblong face is slightly narrower and has a chin that tends to stand out: while the forehead, cheekbones and jaw have the same width. What hairstyle is ideal for oblong face? The best hairstyle for oblong faces should add volume to the side of the face, around the eyes, temples and cheeks. Therefore, opt for short curly haircuts, shoulder length straight hair cut in long layers, loose waves or curls that add width to the face. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 30

Best bangs for oblong face? Bangs are the perfect way to cut the length of the oblong face; avoid them only if you have a small forehead. Otherwise, thick blunt bangs are recommended to make the face look more round and cover the large forehead. Hairstyles to avoid. Any hairstyle that adds length to the face, such as long hair that ends beyond the shoulders, as well as hairstyles that add height or volume to the top of the head, such as pixies or spiky short hair. Diamond-shaped Face This not so common face shape is a combination between the oval and the heart-shaped face. It s a face with many angles; the forehead and chin are narrow and the cheekbones are wide. What hairstyle is ideal for diamond-shaped face? Any layered haircut that can open the face, thrown back hairstyles that can let the beautiful jawline shine, ponytails and updos that pull the hair back off the face. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 31

Best bangs for diamond-shaped face? Bangs are great with diamond-shaped faced faces as they can hide some of the many angles of the face. Opt for a middle parted curtain bangs that will help maintain the contour of the face. Hairstyles to avoid. In order to gently accentuate your face shape, keep hair strands out of your face, but also avoid high-volume hairstyles and too short haircuts. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 32

Chapter IV Right Hair Colors for Your Skin Tone Just like makeup, hair color is an attribute that can help elevate your level of style and beauty, but there is one major condition: that you know exactly what hair color works best for you and you alone! You have probably noticed that different types of hairstyle and haircuts you admire on celebrities or your friends don t always seem to make you look your best. That s because each hairstyle choice you make must be consistent to your own natural facial features. When it comes to choosing your perfect hair color, the first thing to consider is your skin tone. Keep in mind that skin and skin tone are two different terms; while SKIN refers to complexion and defines the surface color of the skin (which can be light, medium or dark), SKIN TONE (or UNDERTONE) is the underlying skin color and it s determined by the amount of melanin in the skin. Skin color changes constantly during the year, depending on sun exposure and skin conditions such as rosacea, blemishes and acne; while the skin tone remains consistent and indifferent to sun exposure and skin conditions. There are two major skin tones - WARM and COOL, but some women can fall under the NEUTRAL skin tone category, which is a combination between the first two. This means they can more easily choose their perfect hair color, as they can pull off colors that match both the warm and cool skin tone. How to determine your skin tone It s very simple, no special knowledge or instruments required! Just look at the color of your veins under direct sunlight: if the blood vessels seem to have GREEN-ish shades, you have a WARM skin tone; if they look rather BLUE or purple in color, you have a COOL skin tone; if you cannot discern between the blue and the green, then you fall under the neutral skin tone category. Here are more details to identify your skin tone: 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 33

Cool skin tone characteristics: eyes: cool skin tone is usually paired with blue, grey, dark brown or black eyes; skin: tans minimally or not at all and tends to burn, because it contains less melanin; it also tends to flush easily and show signs of redness; natural hair color: dark chocolate, dark brown, black or ash blonde. Warm skin tone characteristics: eyes: cool skin tone is usually paired with amber, hazel, golden brown or green eyes; skin: tans easily and rarely burns, as it has a higher level of melanin; natural hair color: red, brown, golden, golden blonde, strawberry blonde, auburn or black. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 34

Best hair colors for COOL skin tone It s impossible to pick only one hair color name it the best hair color for cool skin tones, but generally speaking you should avoid any warm color. BLACK seems to be the most recommended hair color for this type of skin tone. Whether dramatic ebony black, black with blue or with reddish highlights, this non-color always creates a beautiful contrast with the blue and pink hints in your complexion. Other hair colors that look great on cool skin tones are dark brown, brown, chocolate, fawn, amber, mahogany, red acajou, reddish brown, platinum blonde, ash blonde and even white blonde. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 35

What hair colors to avoid If you belong to the cool skin tone category, you should avoid mostly warm hair colors. Red, yellow, bronze and gold hair or highlights won t match your complexion; while plain red can make your facial features stand out in a far too ostentatious way. Best hair colors for WARM skin tone As opposed to women with cool skin tone, if you fall under the warm skin tone category, you should avoid dark hair colors, such as black and red-plum. Opt instead for any color with yellow-red shades, especially golden blonde, champagne blonde, honey blonde, strawberry blonde, light chocolate, ash brown, light red and coppery red. What hair colors to avoid Black with a hint of blue hair colors can make you look older, while choosing platinum blonde might erase your facial traits completely. So, keep the ash and blue-ish shades far away from your hair! 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 36

If you have a neutral skin tone, finding the ideal hair color is far less difficult as you can pull off hair colors that work well with both warm and cool skin tone. You just need to experiment a little to find out if you are closer to the warm skin tone category or the other. As a golden rule, keep in mind that no matter the skin tone, you must dye your hair with a color that is no more than two shades darker or lighter than your natural hair color. A far too big chromatic contrast between your complexion and hair color will either make you look too pale or harden your facial features to the point you ll end up looking as an aged version of yourself. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 37

Chapter V Best Eyeglasses Shapes for Your Face Shape We cannot change our skin color or hair type, but when it comes to glasses we are free to choose and experiment with different styles and colors, lenses and frames. This chic and very versatile accessory - used either to correct eyesight, protect the eyes against the dangerous UV rays or simply as a face accessory - can completely change your appearance and style. Eyeglasses can influence the way you look - in a good or in a bad way, depending on your skills to identify the ideal eyeglasses shapes for you. In order to do that, you need to match the eyeglasses shape to the shape of your face. Best Eyeglasses Shapes for Oval Face The oval face is considered to be the best proportioned and balanced face shape, with the forehead slightly wider than the chin, the cheeks slightly wider than the forehead, but not too prominent, and the jawline gracefully defined. Thanks to these ideal proportions, almost any type of eyeglass shape and lenses are suitable for oval faces, from cat-eye and aviator styles to oversized eye/sunglasses. However, if you want to truly complement your oval face, look for glasses that are bigger at their outside corners and frames that are slightly wider than your face, especially if you have the long oval type of face (wider frames can balance out the length of the face). What you should avoid are eye/sunglasses with narrow frames that tend to make the face look too long and perfectly round-shaped frames that can hide and ruin the perfect symmetry of the face. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 38

Best Eyeglasses Shapes for Round Face The round face is as wide as it is long, with full cheeks, wide forehead and a round jawline. Therefore, the ideal eyeglasses should create the illusion of a longer and narrower face. Angular and geometric frames, such as square and rectangular, can beautifully highlight a round face; while elongated eyeglasses, slightly wider than the cheeks and with narrow frames, can blur the roundness of the face. Another trick to tame a round face is to wear glasses that feature transparent frames in the nose area or glasses with embellishments at the outer corner of the frame. What you should avoid are eyeglasses with round lenses and edges, as they will only make your face look even more round, and oversized glasses that will swallow the face and make it look too small. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 40

Best Eyeglasses Shapes for Square Face Just like the round face, the square face is as wide as it is long, only the edges are angular, not round, the forehead is prominent and the jaw rather wide. The ideal eyeglass shape for square faces is one that can offer a more round appearance and blur the sharp corners of the face. This means eyeglasses with oval and round lenses, as well as thin frames that are wider than the width of the face. This way, the wide and strong jaw becomes less visible and the face looks overall less angular. Needless to say, square, rectangular and any angular shaped eyeglasses should be avoided. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 41

Best Eyeglasses Shapes for Triangle Face (Pear-Shaped Face) With a wide jawline and narrow forehead, the triangle face needs round and curved lenses and frames to soften its angles, as well as eyeglasses that draw attention to the top of the face in order to distract from the prominent jaw. Therefore, look for cat-eye glasses styles, rectangle or oval shapes as well as frames that are wider or have color and detailing on the top half. What you should avoid are round eyeglasses and glasses with volume, colors and details on their lower half, as they will only make the jawline look bigger. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 42

Best Eyeglasses Shapes for Heart-Shaped Face (Inverted Triangle Face) The heart-shaped face features narrow chin, broad forehead and prominent cheekbones. Therefore, the best eyeglasses for this type of face need to create a proper balance between the small chin and the wide forehead. To create the illusion of a bigger chin and narrower forehead, look for eyeglasses with thin frames and round, oval or square lenses (aviator styles are ideal for the inverted triangle face). The frames should be heavier on their lower half, more wide, colored or embellished in some way, in order to offset the chin area. Small eyeglasses are recommended rather than oversized frames that cannot create the right balance between the jawline and the forehead. Thick frames that make the chin stand out and eyeglasses with massive upper frames that draw attention to the already big forehead should be avoided. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 43

Best Eyeglasses Shapes for Oblong Face The oblong face is longer than it is wide, meaning that the forehead, cheekbones and jaw have about the same width. The goal is to wear eyeglasses that can make the face look less long and more wide. Therefore, you should opt for wider glasses, such as aviator shapes, oversized frames and eyeglasses with decorative temples that add width to the face. A low bridge to shorten the nose and thick rims can also complement an oblong face. Narrow frames, rectangular shapes and slim eyeglasses should be avoided as they do nothing but accentuate the face length. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 44

Best Eyeglasses Shapes for Diamond-Shaped Face This rather rare face shape features an angular appearance with pronounced cheekbones, narrow forehead and jawline. The best eyeglasses to fit this face shape should create the illusion of a broader forehead and soften the angles of the face. Eyeglasses that work best have oval or rectangular lenses and upsweeping shaped frames, such as cat-eye glasses. Frames with darker upper rims and thinner lower rims or semi-rimless frames (with no lower rim) can also help balance the heart-shaped face. Narrow frames that make the narrow eye line stand out and eyeglasses with visible or darker lower rims should be avoided, as they tend to highlight the prominent cheekbones. 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 45

Chapter VI Ideal Necklines for Your Face Shape Oval Face 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 47

As this is the ideal face shape, you can choose clothing with any type of necklines, from V-necks, sweetheart and cowl necks, to Sabrina, Queen Anne and Empire necklines. Round Face This face is as wide as it is long, a little narrower at the forehead and jaw line, and its widest point is across the cheekbones. So, the perfect collar should elongate the face in order to make the face look more oval. The V-neck is definitely the most flattering for a round face, but there are also other types of necklines that can give the face a vertical space to de-emphasize the roundness: sweetheart and scoop necks, Queen Anne and Empire necklines. What you should always avoid are high neck blouses, as they tend to hide the neck and therefore make your face look even more round. Square Face The square face is slightly angular, so it needs curves to draw attention away from the angles. Necklines that best flatter the square face must have a vertical shape, so look for scoop necks, Sabrina, sweetheart and cowl neck styles. What you should always avoid is the square neckline. Triangle Face (Pear-shaped Face) Just like the square face, the triangle face needs curves to balance out the angles, so what you should do is sweeten the jaw line with sweeping collars that have a stronger vertical shape: cowl necks, Sabrina neckline, scoop necks and sweetheart necklines. On the other side, you must avoid high or wide collars, as they add volume to the neck and make you look unbalanced in comparison to your forehead. Heart-shaped Face (Inverted Triangle Face) 2016 All Rights Reserved Page 48

This face is the opposite of the triangle face and it has almost the same characteristics as the oval face (narrow and oval chin, slightly prominent cheekbones, forehead wider than the chin), but the chin is much more sharp. In order to make your face appear wider, look for collars that draw a horizontal line near the neckline: high necks, wide necklines and roll-necks (only if your neck is not too short or wide). Oblong Face The oblong face needs necklines that create a horizontal space in order to balance the elongation of the face and make it appear wider and more oval. So, look for turtlenecks, cowl necks, round and wide necklines. Also, collars that end close to the neck widen your face, so neck styles as Sabrina or portrait are a safe bet. What you should always avoid is the V-neckline, as it will make your face appear even more elongated. Diamond-shaped face If you have a diamond-shaped face, what you need to do in order to balance your facial features is to add volume to the forehead and jaw line and, at the same time, avoid fullness at the cheekbones area. So look for wide and round collars such as scoop necks, Sabrina and sweetheart necklines, and always avoid V-necks, as they will only accentuate the narrowness of the jaw.
