From 2 March to 14 May 2017 Disabilities Education Programme: Sharjah Biennial 13 Sharjah Art Foundation welcomes participants of all abilities. The workshops and courses in the Disabilities Education Programme are designed for individuals with physical, learning and developmental difficulties to help them discover new ways of self-expression through art. Designed for participants ranging from 3 to 18 years of age, all workshops and courses are facilitated by experienced professionals. Workshops and Excursions MOSAIC MAGNETS 1 Sunday, 12 March First Session: Ages: 5--14 in another for both sessions After an introduction to the mosaic artwork of SB13 artist Mahmoud Khaled, participants will learn a new approach to mosaic making by cutting an adhesive magnet sheet and decorating a metal surface. MOSAIC MAGNETS 2 Monday, 13 March First Session: Ages: 16 25 By cutting adhesive magnet sheets, participants learn to use Mosaic Magnets to decorate usable everyday items such as bowls. SKETCH YOUR FAVOURITE WORK AND TOUR 1 Tuesday, 14 March Meeting Point: Art for All Centre
After taking a guided tour of the Galleries of the Sharjah Art Foundation Art Spaces and ending with a snack in the Urban Garden, participants will recreate their favorite artwork in sketch form. CREATIVE MOVEMENT Thursday, 16 March Ages: 4+ Using the universal languages of dance and music, participants will act out pictures of everyday objects and creatures. Examples of objects include a butterfly, train, cat and telephone. SKETCH YOUR FAVOURITE WORK AND TOUR 2 Wednesday, 22 March 11:00 am 1:00 pm Meeting point: Art for All Centre A continuation of the Sketch tour series, this time participants will recreate a series of sketches using the Quick Sketch technique on a new route from the Art for All Centre to the Souk Al Shanasiyah. MAKE YOUR OWN PAPER BRACELETS Monday, 27 March 10:00 pm 12:00 pm Ages: 7+ In this workshop, participants will learn to make their own colourful paper bracelets, also known as flextangles. PAINTING WITH SPICES Monday, 10 April & Tuesday, 11 April Ages: 12+ Meeting point: Art for All Centre Day 1: Participants will be taken to a nearby spice store to explore the spices on display.
Day 2: After choosing their spices, participants will create a painting of a flower on canvas by mixing their spices with gesso and other binders. SKETCH YOUR FAVOURITE WORK AND TOUR 3 Wednesday, 12 April 11:00 am 1:00 pm Meeting point: Art for All Centre In the third workshop of these series, participants are invited for a guided touch and sketch tour of various SB13 sites, beginning at the Art for All Centre and concluding at the Gallery One installation. HOMEMADE WATERCOLOURS Monday, 17 April Participants will learn how to make watercolours using simple and natural ingredients that can be found at home. They will then join in a painting session using the watercolours they have produced. COLORING COOKIES WITH FRUIT Wednesday, 19 April Ages: 4 7 Participants will learn how to decorate Digestive biscuits using yogurt and various fruits to create a tasty, healthy treat that is a feast for the eyes. SALAD WORKSHOP Wednesday, 3 May Ages: 7+
Participants will learn how to make simple but tasty salad. They will learn how to grate vegetables, make a dressing and write down a recipe. This workshop will help teach participants to incorporate healthy eating habits and was inspired by the SB13 keyword culinary. OPEN DAY: SKETCH TOUR OF THE MUSEUM OF ISLAMIC CIVILIZATION Saturday, 6 May 4:00 pm 6:00 pm Ages: 7+ Location: Museum of Islamic Civilization, Sharjah Participants will be invited for a sketch tour of the Museum of Islamic Civilization in Sharjah, and then asked to find their favourite piece among the exhibitions and sketch it. FIT- CARBOARD BOX SCULPTURES Tuesday, 9 May & Wednesday, 10 May Ages: 16-25 Participants will learn how to build sculptures from recycled cardboard using a technique called Art fit. After they build their sculptures, they will paint it using glow in the dark paints. TRIP TO THE MAHATTA MUSEUM Sunday, 14 May Ages: 14+ Location: Mahatta Museum, Sharjah Participants will be invited to the Mahatta Museum to view the history of flight and air travel in Sharjah and the Gulf Region, and see the oldest aircraft to fly in the Arabian Gulf.
