Wrinkles Outer layers of skin Deposition of new collagen, improving surface texture and softening wrinkles Epidermis Epidermis Dermis Dermis Diminished levels of collagen and elastin UNDERSTANDING HOW SKIN AGES The aging process in your skin generally begins in your mid-twenties -- though the signs can often be imperceptible. Production of collagen and elastin that supports your skin begins to slow. Over time this leads to your skin becoming more lax and loose, leading to the formation of wrinkles. This natural process is often accelerated by repeated exposure to the sun which can further damage the skin and make wrinkles more pronounced. HOW THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER WORKS The SKIN SMOOTHING LASER helps the skin repair itself by delivering pulses of laser light below the surface of the skin. It is within these sub layers, where collagen is produced, that the laser light triggers the body s natural response to generate new collagen. When an entire area is treated, the new collagen helps tighten the skin from below, reducing wrinkles and delivering a healthy, fresh appearance. 2 INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION 3

POTENTIAL RISKS BENEFITS INTENDED USE OF THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER The SKIN SMOOTHING LASER is indicated for weekday use to treat wrinkles around the eyes [periorbital] and mouth [perioral].* See shaded areas above * When used as instructed, skin may become red following treatment. Some people may experience redness for a prolonged period of time. When used as instructed, you may experience minor discomfort during use. * This discomfort may become painful and difficult to tolerate. * Most users reported reduced discomfort after the first two weeks of use. Potential benefits of routine use include improvement in surface texture, as well as reduction in severity and length of wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. The SKIN SMOOTHING LASER technology has been shown to reduce wrinkles by stimulating the production of new collagen in the skin. 6 INTENDED USE OF THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER INTENDED USE OF THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER 7

SMART THINKING After opening your SKIN SMOOTHING LASER, place the handpiece into the base unit and plug it in to allow it to fully charge before your first use. It takes approximately 4 hours for the handpiece to reach a complete charge. SKIN SMOOTHING LASER BASE UNIT FUNCTIONALIT Y A A SKIN SMOOTHING LASER HANDPIECE Designed to fit securely into the front of the base unit; protecting the lens from damage, dust and fingerprints. The SKIN SMOOTHING LASER base unit functions as a charging station for the handpiece. The base is a safe and easy way to store the handpiece so you can make it part of your daily skin care routine. Simply place the base unit in a convenient and dry location. Plug the mini-usb connector into the back of the base unit and then plug the power cord into a standard household electrical outlet (100 to 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz). Use only the M100 Power Cord supplied with the iluminage SKIN SMOOTHING LASER. Using any other charging device could damage the device and cause severe injury or electrocution. Each time you place the handpiece in the base, it begins the charging process; automatically stopping when a complete charge is reached. A depleted battery requires approximately 4 hours to fully charge using the M100 Power Cord. If the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER handpiece should ever become non-responsive, simply place the handpiece in the Base Unit to charge for 10 seconds to restore the handpiece. B C D E B CHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT Lights up when charging voltage is applied to the handpiece. C SKIN SMOOTHING LASER BASE Placing the handpiece into the base for charging, also resets the handpiece in the event that any operational anomalies are encountered. D POWER CORD Connects to back of base unit to act as a power charging station. The power cord can also be connected directly to the bottom of the handpiece for added convenience when traveling. E USB CABLE Connects the handpiece to your personal computer to charge it while traveling. Also uploads usage data from the handpiece to your Skin Clinic account. Use only the M100 USB Cable supplied with the iluminage SKIN SMOOTHING LASER. Locate the rubber cover located on the bottom of the handpiece. The cover has the USB symbol on it. Grasp the cover and gently pull the cover away from the bottom of the handpiece, approximately one and a half inches until the mini-usb port is visible. The cover is attached to the handpiece and should not be removed completely. Plug the mini-usb connector into this port. Connect the USB connector on the cable into a certified USB port on your personal computer. Do not plug this connector into any other device than a certified USB port on a personal computer. When done, remove the mini-usb connector from the port and press the rubber cover back into place. When the handpiece is connected to your personal computer using the USB cable, the handpiece will begin charging. Allow up to 6 hours to fully charge the handpiece using the USB cable. Do not attempt to use the handpiece while connected to a personal computer. With the handpiece connected to your personal computer, you can also export your usage data that is stored on the handpiece to your Skin Clinic account. SMART THINKING Proper lighting will make it easier to see the lines and wrinkles you want to treat. It is highly recommended that this step and all treatments are performed in front of a well-lit mirror. SMART THINKING Before you begin your first treatment, you should familiarize yourself with how the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER TM works and how it feels on your skin. We recommend that you start with an area on your forearm where you can practice the treatment process and see how your skin reacts. DE TERMINING YOUR NEEDS SE T TING A TIMELINE The SKIN SMOOTHING LASER is designed for weekday use. As part of your comprehensive skincare routine, the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER enables you to create gradual changes to your skin without any downtime. Over time, these changes will become more noticeable. During the first few days, you may experience some discomfort, such as temporary redness after treatment. This is perfectly normal and is a sign that the treatments are having an effect. Everyone's skin is different. Do not start a new treatment if you are still experiencing discomfort, such as redness, from the previous treatment. You may benefit from skipping a treatment in this area and restarting treatments at a lower power setting. You may slowly build up to consecutive treatments at a power setting that is comfortable for you. Many users will begin seeing visible changes to their wrinkles in as little as two weeks of weekday usage. After 4 weeks of routine weekday usage, the impact of the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER should become more noticeable. At the discretion of the user, you may continue with your treatments. 28 UNDERSTANDING WHAT THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER CAN DO FOR YOU UNDERSTANDING WHAT THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER CAN DO FOR YOU 29

A A ON/OFF BUTTON It s important to completely cleanse your face before every treatment, removing everything from the surface of your skin. Water, makeup and skin oils will interfere with the delivery of the laser pulse and could diminish results. Use a mild cleanser to ensure that your skin is completely clean and free of any residue prior to your treatment. Be sure to dry your skin thoroughly before getting started. Press the on/off button and hold for 3 seconds until you hear the greeting tone. This sequence is a safety feature designed to prevent activation by unauthorized users. When successfully activated, you will hear a tone and see a greeting on the display. During this process, the tip of the laser should not be in contact with the skin or any other object. The SKIN SMOOTHING LASER handpiece is now ready to use. If the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER handpiece is left idle for more than 30 seconds, it will automatically time-out and you will need to repeat the steps above to reactivate it for use. 32 USING THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER FOR THE FIRST TIME USING THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER FOR THE FIRST TIME 33

SMART THINKING Watch the sequence of lights carefully. Although it is a quick sequence, it will help you develop a rhythm that will make your treatments quick and effortless. HANDPIECE LIGHT IDENTIFICATION Always inspect the lens at the treatment tip for scratches or cracks before each use. Do not use the handpiece if there is any visible damage to the lens or any other part of the handpiece, or if you detect any loose pieces inside when gently shaken. Use of a broken handpiece could cause injury. Contact iluminage Customer Care to return the product to the factory for repair. Be sure the power is set to LOW. The power setting appears on the display each time you press the ON/OFF button. Choose an area on your arm that s free of hair, blemishes and skin spots. With your other hand, hold the handpiece in a comfortable position and place the tip of the handpiece against the skin. 34 USING THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER FOR THE FIRST TIME USING THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER FOR THE FIRST TIME 35

START END SMART THINKING The goal is to achieve a single pattern of continuous laser pulses rather than a series of individual laser pulses. To get a feel for the 1/4 inch overlap, you can practice here. contact sensor area treatment area NO too much overlap The dark circle in the center of the tip is the lens that delivers each laser pulse. After each pulse, you must lift the tip from the skin, and move to the next treatment location to deliver the next laser pulse. You cannot slide the tip from one treatment spot to the next. For best possible results, each laser pulse should overlap the previous in order to achieve uniform coverage in your treatment zones. This is to ensure that all the skin in a treatment zone will be treated. You only need to move the tip 1/4 of an inch with each laser pulse to achieve uniformity. You ll find that the sensation of the laser pulse will help guide you as you move along. When the treatment tip is pressed against the skin, the skin temporarily blanches or whitens. Use the blanched outline as a guide for spacing the treatment spots. This is true with facial skin as well. NO no overlap YES optimal overlap 36 USING THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER FOR THE FIRST TIME USING THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER FOR THE FIRST TIME 37

SMART THINKING Everyone's skin is different and only you can determine which setting is right for your skin. Find a setting that is comfortable and does not produce signs of stress on your skin and stick with it as part of your treatment routine. A HIGH SETTING Practice on your forearm to determine your comfort with the two power settings [LOW and HIGH]. An initial series of laser pulses on the LOW power setting will help you get accustomed to the sensation and see how your skin reacts. The next step is to try the HIGH power setting to determine your comfort level. After applying a few laser pulses at the HIGH setting, look for prolonged redness or raised areas on your skin. If you experience prolonged redness, raised marks on your skin or the treatments become too painful, reduce the power setting to LOW or stop treatments. Everyone's skin is different. As discussed earlier (on page 29) you may skip a treatment if you experience discomfort such as redness. You may also restart treatments at the LOW power setting based on your skin 's reaction. By altering treatment days and using the LOW power settings for a period of time, you may enable your skin to acclimate and slowly build up to consecutive treatments at a power setting that works for you. If treatments at the HIGH power setting are comfortable and do not appear to stress your skin, you should proceed with this setting on a regular basis unless you notice changes in how your skin responds over time. It is most important to find a setting that is comfortable and stay committed to a regular treatment routine. The power setting selected from the testing on your forearm should be used as a starting point for your facial treatments. You should repeat the process of testing both the LOW and HIGH power settings on your face to determine which setting is best for your skin. C B A B C LOW SETTING Power Settings are adjusted by pressing the Power Setting Button. Switching from low to high is indicated by an ascending tone and high to low a descending tone. 38 USING THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER FOR THE FIRST TIME USING THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER FOR THE FIRST TIME 39

SMART THINKING After completing your Personalized Treatment Plan, place it within sight when using the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER. This will help guide you through your first several treatments. SMART THINKING Some users have found that it can be helpful to perform the treatments in the evening, to allow any minor redness and swelling to dissipate overnight. TREATMENT ZONES As noted earlier, it s important to make sure your skin's free from all makeup and skin oils prior to treatment. Carefully cleanse and thoroughly dry your face before beginning any treatment. The SKIN SMOOTHING LASER is intended for use in the areas highlighted in the image to the right (Treatment Zones). If you've completed the Personalized Treatment Plan in the back of this booklet, you should have a sense of your needs within these areas. Adjust the treatment areas according to your specific needs, but try to follow the sequence and pattern to achieve superior coverage and better results. Do not attempt to use the device on any other areas of your body other that these four zones. Do not attempt to use the device on any other objects or animals. ZONE A ZONE B Having access to a large, well-lit mirror will enable proper placement and accurate overlapping of your treatment pulses accurately. with the proper overlap. Although a magnification mirror is not required, some users may find this helpful. Rotate the handpiece slightly if you are having difficulty making proper contact in contoured areas of your face. ZONE C ZONE D 42 EVERYDAY USE OF THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER EVERYDAY USE OF THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER 43

SMART THINKING When using the laser, gently stretch the skin with your fingers, then apply the laser to that area. This will smooth the area and allow for a precise application. A B C D Remember: Move only one quarter of an inch between pulses. Focus on your target wrinkle areas.! DO NOT place or slide any part of the tip of the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER TM handpiece over any portion of your open eye or closed eyelid. The laser light is not visible and can cause serious and permanent eye damage. 44 EVERYDAY USE OF THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER EVERYDAY USE OF THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER 45

HELPFUL HINT Rotate the laser tip to help make proper contact in contoured areas of your face. HOW TO HOLD THE DEVICE For the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER lens, moisten a clean cloth with a household disinfectant such as 90% isopropyl alcohol and wipe dry. This does not need to occur after each use, only when lens appears dirty. Do not immerse lens or handpiece in water or place under running water. Return the handpiece to the base unit to protect the lens and recharge the handpiece battery. If you are traveling and did not bring the base, you can plug the powercord directly into the bottom of the handpiece to charge the battery. Be sure to store it in a position that will protect the lens. Use only this approved method for cleaning. Any other method could damage the lens or device. Immediately after your SKIN SMOOTHING LASER treatment, you may continue to feel a warm sensation in the areas treated. This is completely normal, and part of the process. We recommend use of a soothing lotion or gel at the conclusion of each treatment to minimize any discomfort and help keep your skin adequately hydrated. 46 EVERYDAY USE OF THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER EVERYDAY USE OF THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER 47

AF TER THE FIRST TREATMENT Minor redness. After your first SKIN SMOOTHING LASER treatment, you may or may not experience a small amount of redness. This is temporary. Some people may experience redness for a prolonged period of time. If you don t see any redness, it is still fine. Your skin just reacts differently. It is a good idea to perform your SKIN SMOOTHING LASER treatments in the evening, in the event you have some redness. If you do experience redness and don t have time to allow it to dissipate, you may cover it up with makeup. Firm sensation in the skin. Some people feel a very slight tightness in the skin. This is a good sign, indicative that your skin is reacting to the laser light. But again, if you do not notice anything, do not be concerned, everyone s skin reacts differently. Over time, you will become accustomed to the sensation and may not notice it at all. REGULAR SKIN CARE REGIMEN To maximize the benefits of the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER treatments and support overall skin health, you should maintain a regular skin care treatment program that includes active topicals and a good SPF product. The full line of iluminage skincare products is specially designed to be the foundation of your skin maintenance program, complementing the effects of your SKIN SMOOTHING LASER treatments. SMART THINKING Proper lighting will make it easier to see the lines and wrinkles you want to treat. It is highly recommended that this step and all treatments are performed in front of a well-lit mirror. EXPERT TIPS FOR ACHIEVING YOUR BEST RESULTS The contents of this manual are intended to help you get the most from your SKIN SMOOTHING LASER. Continue to review it as you become more familiar with the routine operation of the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER. However, to ensure optimal results, you should always remember the following SMART THINKING points to ensure optimal performance and satisfaction. SMART THINKING The SKIN SMOOTHING LASER is intended for weekday use. Make it a part of your overall and ongoing skin care regimen. Perform your treatment at night before going to sleep. Do not remove the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER from the skin during the laser pulse. Every laser pulse should be completed to receive the full benefit of the laser treatments. Do not focus on individual wrinkles. Treat the entire area on which they are located. Use the highest setting you can comfortably tolerate. Higher settings can generate greater results. Be patient, and stick to your treatment plan. Consistency is the key to success. IDENTIF YING NEEDS / TREATMENT PLANNING The shaded zones in the chart above represent the areas that the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER is specifically designed to treat. They are also the areas where wrinkles tend to develop. When you look in a well-lit mirror, identify specific lines and wrinkles. It's important to remember that the goal is not to directly treat the specific line and wrinkle. Instead treat the entire area in which they appear. Modify the treatment zones on the following page to create a Treatment Plan that is specific to your needs. Initially, this Treatment Plan will help you perform your treatments, but over time it will also help assess the progress of your treatments and improvements in your skin. 52 TIPS AND TREATMENT PLANNING TIPS AND TREATMENT PLANNING 53

RECOMMENDED SEPARATION DISTANCES BETWEEN PORTABLE AND MOBILE RF COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT AND THE SKIN SMOOTHING LASER The SKIN SMOOTHING LASER is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF disturbances are controlled. The customer or the user of the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and mobile RF communications equipment (transmitters) and the Skin Smoothing Laser as recommended below, according to the maximum output power of the communications equipment. SEPARATION DISTANCE ACCORDING TO FREQUENCY OF TRANSMITTER M RATED MAXIMUM OUTPUT POWER OF TRANSMITTER W 150 khz TO 80 MHz 80 MHz TO 800 MHz 800 MHz TO 2,5 GHz d=[ ] P d=[ ] P d=[ ] P 3,5 3,5 7 V 1 E 1 E 1 0.01 0.12 0.12 0.23 0.1 0.38 0.38 0.73 1 1.2 1.2 2.3 10 3.79 3.79 7.27 100 12 12 23 For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation distance d in metres(m) can be estimated using the equation applicable to the frequency of the transmitter, where P is the maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts(w) according to the transmitter manufacturer. NOTE 1 At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the separation distance for the higher frequency range applies. NOTE 2 These guidelines may not apply to all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption and reflection from structures, objects and people. 70 APPENDIX - TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION 71

HOW IT WORKS The SKIN SMOOTHING LASER is a battery-operated device that uses laser energy at a wavelength of 1440 nm as the mechanism for wrinkle reduction. A lithium ion battery supplies power to a laser diode to produce infrared laser light. A complex set of lenses is used to shape the infrared laser light into a pattern of spots. The spots are emitted from the laser aperture on the tip of the handpiece (applied part) and illuminate the skin with each treatment pulse. The control electronics provide feedback to the user through lighted displays, sounds and usage data collection. Usage data is stored in the memory of the handpiece. An industry standard USB 2.0 (or greater) interface is used to access the usage data. The power cord (AC Mains adapter) converts home AC power to low voltage DC power used to recharge the internal, non-replaceable, lithium ion battery in the handpiece. The power cord is Class II medical electrical equipment and provides isolation from AC Mains voltages. PROPER DISPOSAL Do not dispose of the SKIN SMOOTHING LASER or accessories with normal household waste at the end of its life. The handpiece contains a lithium ion battery. Do not incinerate the handpiece, because the battery could rapidly disassemble, causing injury and release toxic and hazardous materials. Contact your local authorities to determine the proper method of disposal of potentially bio hazardous parts and accessories. 72 APPENDIX - TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION APPENDIX - TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION 73
