The Tannenbaum Tannenbaum is the German word for Christmas tree. Germany is credited with starting the Christmas tree tradition as we now know it. It is believed that originally pyramids of wood were decorated with evergreens and candles. Today, some German families still use real candles on their trees. german Food most Germans love rich, hearty food. each area of Germany has its own definition of what a traditional meal looks like but Bratwurst, a form of sausage, Cabbage, potatoes and sauerkraut are popular. Bavarian Pretzel Bites makes about 60 bites 1 package of dry active 4 ½ cups of flour yeast (2 teaspoons) 4 cups of water 1 ½ cups of warm water 8T of baking soda 1/3 cup of brown sugar Coarse salt Dissolve yeast in 1 ½ cups of warm water. Mix in brown sugar and flour. Knead until smooth and elastic. Preheat oven to 475 F. Pull off fist fulls of dough and roll out on a lightly floured surface to a long 3/4 rope. Cut into 1 pieces. Set aside to rise for a few minutes. In a large saucepan mix 4 cups of water with baking soda. Bring to a boil. Place a single layer of pretzel pieces in the boiling solution for 20 seconds. Spread out the pieces on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle on salt. Bake for 8 minutes or until golden brown. pretzel swaps Twist 3.5 pieces of suede cord to look like a pretzel. add a couple of dabs of hot glue to keep in place.
