2 The protean, experimental and wild nature of ILE/MER/FROID s creations make them impossible to pigeonhole; they are the result of the encounter between three individuals: Antony Lille, Hugo Lemaire, Boris Geoffroy. Focusing on rough forms, sharp edges, savagery and nature, their rigid work process occasionally gives way to lucky accidents and areas of uncertainty, which come and disturb their gestural and material work. Somewhere between modernist ruins and the remnants of synergistic ritual, ÎLE/MER/FROID s work appears as the formal expression of their collective process. Yasmina Hatem, 2015 (AntonyL)îl(l)e, (Hugo Le)me(ai)r(e) and (Boris Geof)fro(y)id seem to work on something big. The casualness they show at first glance can t dissimulate the gravity of the bet : it is more that the language gives out in front of the scale of the construction. They don t simplify, they vulgarize nothing, but touch the heart of the problem, erect, accumulate, gather the material, sounds, objects, collected or fabricated forms. They turn, traffic, project, lose themselves, they get even overtaken by this swarming, sticky matter, wich they never finally get done with, but they don t do any compromise to neither. Their practice of total experimentation offers them to sweep every fields, to attack every limits. They seem busy to the mise en scene of their own adventures, improvising the soundtrack on their homemade guitars, building the settings, rocks, buildings and monuments, organizing the struggles, parties and defeats. The feedback they form is function of the accoustic space, alterated by their disposition in space, movings around them and the vibrations occuring in this same space.
