8 6 Welcome There is so much information available to us every day, with updates happening every second. It s no wonder that choosing the right colour one that s on trend, no less can be a daunting experience. This is why we bring you our annual Plascon Colour Forecast. Throughout the year, we monitor what s happening in the worlds of design, fashion and décor, both internationally and locally, and then sift through the information to find the common threads. As a special treat to you, we re including a copy of the Plascon 2014 Forecast titled Colour Nation in this issue, so you can see for yourself the colours that will be on the map next year. People are different and have different tastes, desires and dreams, and our colour preferences are not all the same. Bearing this in mind, Plascon has identified four trends within this forecast, each featuring a different set of colours. From tribal brights to muted pastels and moody darks, there is a palette of colours everyone can identify with. The wonderful thing about trends and moving forward is that when we look back, we see how far we have come. Can you believe that Plascon Double Velvet is 40 years old? We have some incredibly talented designers in this country and the way they put together colours is truly inspirational. A rainy winter s day in Cape Town convinced me to use this colour. It gives me a sense of tranquility. Most colourful thing you own? A yellow, red, pink, blue, grey and purple rug, which was woven in Cape Town in the 80s. What colour is your home? White and grey with a touch of olive green. You will also find splashes of gold throughout. Any behind-the-scenes anecdotes? In the midst of trying to catch the last bit of sunlight of the day, the reflector was leaning against an electric fence. Let s just say I experienced some shock therapy! The lounger on my deck, where I m surrounded by every shade of green, and can listen to birdsong and the sound of water. Any behind-the-scenes anecdotes? We wanted to shoot the kids jumping into the pool as the issue would come out in spring, but sadly for them it was still winter. The shrieking as they hit the water was off the Richter scale!
