Delhi Treated to IIJW Jewellery & Fashion Extravaganza The first edition of the India International Jewellery Week Delhi 2013 cast a spell on the fashion capital of India. The two-day event organised by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) on April 12-13, showcased the works of 17 Indian designers spread over 14 shows. Apart from attracting fashion followers, the show IIJW Delhi 2013 was also visited by buyers and media. Top choreographers Lubna Adam and Anu Ahuja presented entertaining shows with 30 models gliding down the ramp during the two-day highprofile event. The grand inauguration saw the presence of GJEPC chairman Vipul Shah, IIJW brand ambassador Sonam Kapoor and other dignitaries. Gitanjali Group opened the show and launched the fabulous Shuddhi Jewels collection dedicated to the empowerment of women. Working around the theme of earth, water, fire and air, the collection tapped into the many moods of a woman with stunning jewellery. PC Jeweller, who has been sponsoring the IIJW event since its inception in 2010, wrapped up the two-day event with a grand finale. The Council has been organising the event to create awareness among international and domestic buyers about the design aesthetic of Indian jewellery and the skills of Indian talent. The finale highlighted some magnificent bridal jewellery created with fine diamonds and polkis. 66 solitaire INTERNATIONAL may 2013

Rio Tinto displayed an array of beautifully crafted jewellery from their Nazraana collection; while Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas rocked the ramp by displaying the Amer collection, and Hazoorilal brought

Emphasis on bridal sets In the run-up to the bridal season, most brands and designers showcased exquisite bridal jewellery fit for the modern-day bride. Rio Tinto displayed an array of beautifully crafted jewellery from their Nazraana collection; while Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas rocked the ramp by displaying the Amer collection, and Hazoorilal brought in the Desire collection consisting of diamond and jadau lines. Continuing in the same vein on day two was the Gitanjali Group which recreated the Great Indian Wedding Carnival on the ramp. Staging various pre-nuptial functions from the mehndi, sangeet, to baraat and finally, shaadi, the brand presented dazzling jewels from its traditional brands like Nizam, Envi and True Platinum. Bholasons jewellery had an antique touch and JUD Jewellery from CVM Exports, Junagadh featured their resplendent bridal collection that was outfitted with uncut diamonds. The collection Statements of the Heaven by Charu Jewels was more esoteric and inspired by heaven. The line was a perfect blend of diamonds with a hint of coloured gemstones. Kays Jewels created magic on the ramp with their line of 16 sets called Alaukik, and R K Jewellers presented the Zistatva line and an eclectic bridal collection by Prakshi Sharma. Designers shine Most independent designers who participated in the show were women, who dazzled with their collections and proved their expertise in the jewellery business. Aum Monica Kapur s collection was a dream-like range titled Anupam, and Rosily Paul matched gold with amber to create an outstanding, chic collection called the Layers. Pooja Juneja s line of jewellery aptly titled The Conflation was inspired by varied cultures and had a global flavour. The International Gemological Institute who have partnered IIJW since its inception in 2010, once again presented fresh talent when Namita Naik, Vidhi Chaudhary, Sakshi Dhameliya and Hetvi Jasani wowed the gathering with their stunning bridal jewellery. Celebrity brigade Celebrities graced the ramp for designers and jewellers. Ankita Shorey, Miss India International 2011 and brand ambassador of Gitanjali, and Shriya Saran opened the first show of the IIJW 2013 Delhi, while Neha Dhupia added grace to the Great Indian Wedding Carnival. Aurithra Ghosh was the beauty who ended the show for IGI designer Vidhi Chaudhary; and Yami Gautam made a great showstopper for Rio Tinto. The sensuous Chitrangda Singh was the show stealer for Hazoorilal and Lara Dutta, Miss Universe 2000, stopped the show for Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas. Juhi Chawla was the charming beauty for Kays Jewels and Zeenat Aman made a dignified entry for RK Jewellers. PC Jeweller brought in Jacqueline Fernandez as well as film director, Madhur Bhandarkar. Aum Monica Kapur invited Indian cricketer Atul Wassan to end her show. 3 B i r d h i c h a n d G h a n s h y a m d a s Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas of Jaipur, a brand synonymous with creating magnificent jewellery, presented a breathtaking show to unveil its latest collection Amer, a gorgeous collection inspired by one of the grand forts in Jaipur. Each piece from the Amer collection featured motifs suggestive of the architectural designs of the fort. The patterns were inspired by the fort s pillars, the Ganesh Pole gate and more. The line was conceptualised using rose cuts, large uncut diamonds, white and yellow diamonds, emeralds and pearls. A glorious spread of rani haars, giant bib necklaces, armlets, maang tikkas, shoulder ornaments and kadas gave a glimpse of the grandeur of the royals. Glamorous Lara Dutta, Miss Universe 2000, walked for Birdhichand wearing a majestic rani haar that reached her waistline. The multi-row necklace was held by emerald and diamond motifs. 4 C h a r u J e w e l s It was a blend of emeralds, diamonds, and rubies that created heavenly magic in the presentation staged by Charu Jewels. The aptly titled line Statements of the Heaven employed a variety of round and uncut diamonds in a melangé of shapes and sizes; the fashionable chokers, long necklaces and earrings and kadas were set with large gemstones to heighten the drama. There were many gorgeous pieces including the five-row emerald necklace with a diamond and emerald floral burst in the centre; lacy gem-set kadas, a statement three-row long necklace of emerald beads and pearls featuring an off-centre clasp of asymmetrical diamond and gem-studded discs; a sinuous diamond-filled broad cuff. A diamond choker with sinuous patterns had a streak of pear-shaped drops with invisibly set rubies winding through the necklace stirred the audience. The lacy V shaped flat necklace that extended down the neck of the pretty model and the diamonds encased in gold with pearl drops was a great end to a perfectly designed collection. The jewellery truly appeared as though it was made in heaven! J u n a g a d h J e w e l l e r y P v t L t d Junagadh Jewellery Pvt Ltd, part of CVM Exports, presented an amazing collection. The JUD (Junagadh Uncut Diamonds) Jewellery presented an eclectic line in 22-karat gold conceptualised with rose cut, uncut diamonds and precious coloured stones. The collection is the result of years of design research combined with superb craftsmanship of skilled artisans. The show opened with the Moon collection, part of the JUD Jewellery line, that featured flat collars gleaming with oval pendants and bordered with pearl drops. Polki chains with pearl drop pendants lent an innovative touch to the collection. Festoon necklace (raani haar) replete with gold beads looked lavish and the fan-shaped earring, chandeliers with graduated pearl shapes looked divine. The brand ended the show with three stunning bridal sets and a tiny gold and diamond clutch purse ideal for the bride who wants to keep her precious keepsakes secure. The JUD Jewellery was beautifully detailed and intrinsic, highlighting the skills of the artisans.

IGI presented four amazing collections by its graduates at the IIJW Delhi. Namita Naik Namita Naik worked with Anaya Jewels to create the Anokhi line that was studded with fancy diamonds and coloured stones. The well crafted jaali work choker was teamed with dramatic baalis. The large pearl drops and gleaming emeralds were the centre of attraction for the set. The entwining leafy design choker with rubies and pearls had delicately styled earrings, worn with a stylish bracelet. The imposing pear-shaped diamond pendant was the centre of a curved necklace and matching earrings, while an intricately moulded bracelet was a perfect addition. Finally, the solid diamond encrusted neckpiece with a pear-shaped pendant was smothered in fancy shaped diamonds and teamed with earrings and accessories. Vidhi Chaudhary Vidhi Chaudhary s collection created for the Khurana Jewellery House in Amritsar was called the Bridal Fiesta. The work consisted of jadau, polki and minakari jewellery set with pearls, rubies, emeralds, and uncut diamonds. The elaborate choker-cum-collar was magnificent to say the least. She also presented striking cocktail jewellery comprising diamond sets for formal evening wear. Closing the presentation was Bollywood star Aurithra Ghosh, who was a hit in the film The Love Breakup Zindagi wearing an elegant lacy trellised necklace with linked prongs and matching jhumkas, bangles and kadas that shimmered under the ramp lights. Sakshi Dhameliya Sakshi Dhameliya s tie-up with Gehna brought on the ramp the Raya collection. Beautiful uncut diamonds and coloured stones were turned into amazing celebrity jewellery, which was a feast for the eyes. The show opened with the model draped in a grand necklace with two square emeralds as the centre piece. She also wore fan-shaped earrings; the designer showed three more versions of her beautiful designs. The giant pear-shaped emeralds on a bed of diamonds and the danglers created a stir on the catwalk; while the neckpiece covered in polkis with ruby clusters at the side, along with the matching bracelet and ring, was stunning. Polkis with pearls and emerald drops bordered the neckpiece while the tikka and danglers completed the gorgeous set. Hetvi Jasani Hetvi Jasani tied up with Ashi Jewels to present the Kaia collection featuring diamonds and coloured stones that shimmered under the arc lights. The show started with a dainty pair of diamond earrings in an alternate circular design. This was followed by a dramatic flat collar of diamonds and coloured stones matched with glittering cuff, bracelets and striking chandelier earrings. Emeralds and diamonds gave the lacy necklace and bangles an elegant look and the final tree-shaped earrings, neckpiece of entwined diamonds and emeralds paired with two broad kadas were a complete blast. 70 solitaire INTERNATIONAL may 2013

The line had beautiful natural elements like flowing ornate beads, peacock-feather designs and the beauty of butterflies for the ornaments crafted with gold, diamonds and polkis, and gemstones.

The nature-inspired jewellery used deep blue sapphires, rich green emeralds and glowing citrines in the collection called Alaukik. The line had beautiful natural elements like flowing ornate beads, peacock-feather designs and the beauty of butterflies for the ornaments crafted with gold, diamonds and polkis, and gemstones. The segment opened with the showcasing of a stunning heartshaped rani haar bordered with gold beads and an opulent choker. Models showcased myriad radiant amber pendants, in the shape of bottles, triangles, ovals and rounds, wrapped in gold work and suspended from designer gold sautoirs. The final piece was a long necklace with a double pendant with a gold mesh design suspending an amber drop with gold gauze. A graduate from the Kazuko Araki School of Design, Japan and gemmologist from International Gemological Institute, the designer s collection titled The Conflation comprised diamond-studded parures and demi parures designed for the new-age woman who likes to make a statement by being a minimalist. The collection was a combination of various design ideas where different eras came together in perfect harmony. The blend of Mughal Islamic jaali work with a modern diamond setting; a post-modern European necklace with an Indian pendant, while the peacock design was combined effortlessly with oriental tattoo patterns. The Chinese Kanji script was added to Victorian designs to present an impressive piece. Pooja opened her show with a band of gold that displayed diamond and ruby florets. Emerald pendants and long gold and pearl chains were worn as shoulder and body ornaments by models. Clusters of diamonds on a pearl chain, three pearl rows with an off-centre diamond starburst, pearl and gemstone hoops, the solitaire pendant on a diamond chain were well received by the audience. N a z r a a n a b y R i o T i n t o The sparkling Nazraana collection presented by Rio Tinto was patterned exquisitely. The timeless line uses diamonds obtained from Rio Tinto top mines in Australia, Canada and Zimbabwe. The collection, which works as an ideal gift of love for family and friends, was mounted in 14- and 18-karat gold and 92.5 silver. Despite the traditional Indian motifs, the jewellery had a modern twist to it. Models wore slender diamond strands, delicate two-row necklaces, layered diamond neckpieces, a line of diamond drops set with rubies. Open patterned danglers and hoops, a variety of tiny pearl and diamond drops; diamond-shaped earrings, mesmerised the audience. Bangles, cuffs, bracelets, kadas moved from thin to medium and then wide, while the solid gold bands studded with diamonds completed the range. Statement rings bearing stars, flowers and abstract patterns ruled the ramp. The final entry was the lovely showstopper Yami Gautam, brand ambassador of Rio Tinto and star of the hit film Vicky Donor, who sashayed down the catwalk wearing a curved diamond neckpiece with a tiny diamond drop, matched with a double line of earrings, bangles, bracelets and assorted striking rings. 72 solitaire INTERNATIONAL may 2013

The jeweller presented two diverse collections one by Prakshi Sharma, designer of RK Jewellers, who revealed her gorgeous Western line, featuring floral motifs, and the other was Zistatva (meaning culture), a stylish range of 22-karat bridal pendant sets, bangles, chokers and Maharani sets. in The Prakshi Sharma collection showcased necklaces, cuffs, rings, earrings and cuffs crafted 18-karat gold, enhanced with diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires. Flat and lacy collars with coloured gemstone pendants, intertwined ruby and pearl necklace, spiked diamond necklaces, added sparkle to the show. Shilpa Singh, Miss Universe India 2012, ramp-walked for Prakshi wearing a lacy diamond choker and complementary earrings. The Zistatva collection presented a gold lacy bib with pearls and long triple jhumkas. Zeenat Aman was the showstopper for the Zistatva collection by RK Jewellers. She looked every inch a queen wearing a long rani haar with encrusted dual pendants, shoulder dusters, bangles and a dome-shaped ring. The contemporary gold jewellery with a dull, antique finish was crafted in 22-karat gold and had tribal motifs inspired by African and Indian tribes. The bold pieces were breathtaking to say the least. The gold carved square pendant with circular danglers, the flat beaten circles on a gold band, the rings of necklaces with majestic pendant and the fan-shaped neckpiece with matching earrings took the audience on a rustic trip. The diamond collection glittered with solitaires, precious gems and it was a line brides always dream of. Diamonds were interspersed with rubies for pendants, while square emeralds teamed with diamonds.
