2 Page 3 FASHION REVUE TIPS FROM THE JUDGES STATE FASHION REVUE Page 4 1. Smile It s the best accessory! 2. Accessories Accessories should be age appropriate. Less is more; don t over or under accessorize. Make certain they are the right size for the overall look of the ou it. 3. Pressing Press, press, and press some more! Use starch (sparingly) to make stubborn co ons behave. Watch for seam puckering. Take wool garments to dry cleaners and have pressed. NEVER sit in your garment prior to judging! 4. Hemlines Wear skirts and pants straight on the waistline. This will greatly impact the hem. Watch hemline length and keep hemlines straight. 5. Length In skirts and shorts, please check that the length is appropriate. Not all body shapes fit standard pa ern lengths. 6. Footwear Watch color and style. Must match ou it. Be sure shoe style and heel height are age appropriate. For PJ s, socks/foo es are good choices if slippers cannot be found that match. For open toes shoes, polish your toenails. No flip flops. 7. Zippers Invisible zippers are a great choice for formal wear. 8. Undergarments Watch fit of bodices. Wear undergarments that match ou it and don t show from the outside. Wear slips when needed. Wear padded bras when needed. 9. Skin Tone Make sure the garment color works with your skin tone. If your ou it is for outdoors your skin color (fake tan) needs to go along with it (swim suit). 10. Modeling Switch up your stance when modeling lined garments (will flow be er). Let your personality show and add your own style. Relax & model with ease. 4 H State Fashion Revue judging takes place in August at the Indiana State Fair. The top 15 from each division will model their garments in the Farm Bureau Building at the Indiana State Fair, when top award winners will be announced. The exact dates for these events will be announced at a later me. Senior Division winners should stop at the informa on table during the fair and pick up their packets. Senior Division youth whose garment wins for construc on and Fashion Revue in Elkhart County, will be asked to choose one category for their State Fair entry. You will be no fied if you need to choose. FASHION REVUE IS AN ACTIVITY, NOT A PROJECT You do not need to enter your garment in construc on to par cipate in Fashion Revue. You cannot complete the sewing project if you do not have your garment judged in construc on. An ou it is defined as clothing that could be worn without addi onal garments and be considered acceptable to wear in public. In senior categories no half garments may be modeled i.e. not just blouses or skirts. In grade 3 7 you only need to sew the part of the ou it that you entered for construc on. Other garments may be purchased or sewn by others. Accessories are defined as accents that add to the total look and do not need to be sewn by the 4 H er. Read project requirements: A suit is two pieces. If you have sewn the blouse, it is now considered separates (3 pieces). If you have purchased a blouse, the blouse is an accessory. A jumper could be paired with a purchased blouse as an accessory for Fashion Revue.
3 Page 5 ADVANCED WEARABLE EXHIBITS LEVELS C & D 4 H ers entering wearable exhibits in the advanced sewing categories (grades 8 and higher) will need to iden fy one of the following six categories in which to enter their exhibit. These same categories are used for Fashion Revue. In Fashion Revue, senior members may exhibit one ou it in each category. In sewing, only one wearable construc on entry is permi ed. One State Fair entry will be chosen for each category. DEFINITION OF AN OUTFIT: An ou it is a garment or garments that when put together make a complete look such as one or two piece dress, or one or two piece pant suit, or a three piece combina on, such as pants, vest, and blouse or shirt. Informal or Casual Wear: A complete ou it of 1 or 2 pieces suitable for school, weekend, or casual, informal ac vi es. Dress Up: This is suitable for special, church, or social occasions that are not considered to be formal. It may be an ou it of one or more pieces with or without its own costume coat or jacket (lined or unlined). This is not an ou it that would be worn to school, weekend, or casual, informal ac vi es. Free Choice: A complete ou it comprised of garments that do not fit in the other classifica ons. Examples include: tennis wear, swim wear, athle c or sportswear, lounge wear, riding habits, historic, dance, theatrical, or interna onal costumes, capes, and unlined coats. Suit or Coat: The suit consists of two pieces including a skirt or pants and its own lined jacket. It is not a dress with jacket as in dress up wear. The coat is a separate lined coat. It will be judged separately as a coat with its own accessories. Separates: Consists of three garments that must be worn as a coordinated complete ou it. Each piece should be versa le enough to be worn with other garments. Formal Wear: This ou it may be one or more pieces suitable for any formal occasion, such as proms, weddings, and formal evening func ons. FASHION REVUE PUBLIC SHOW Show begins at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017 Page 6 All contestants must report backstage by 6:30 p.m. and be dressed and ready to go. Please be back on stage and ready to line up. It is very important that you report on me and be ready to model.
