TRENDSETTER SENIOR GIRL FALL/WINTER SENIOR GIRL TRENDSETTER This girl loves to accessorize, read fashion blogs, and show off her own unique style. Look for fun, layered looks and jewelry to add pops of color. Don t overly fuss about hair and makeup; the emphasis is on fashion. downtown urban alley in studio museum café pier
GLAMOROUS SENIOR GIRL FALL/WINTER SENIOR GIRL GLAMOROUS This bombshell is dressed to thrill, with dresses and heels invoking earlier fashion periods. She s rocking 40 s couture mixed seamlessly with modern pieces, stylized hair, red lipstick and she loves period hats and jewelry. hotel lobby diner in studio antique furniture store town square boardwalk
HIPSTER SENIOR GIRL FALL/WINTER SENIOR GIRL HIPSTER She looks unplanned, but she s calculatingly chill. Skinny jeans, vintage Ts, tons of tennis shoes and some fun, funky hats round out this socially conscious and casual wardrobe. café train station bridge city scape bookstore local farmers market
BOHO SENIOR GIRL FALL/WINTER SENIOR GIRL BOHO Feminine and understated, layers of natural fabrics are cinched with a cuter, rustic belt and capped with worn boots. Her country visage is offset by an urban fashion sense, with little accessory and soft, flowing hair. country scape orchard local farmers market leaf piles garden ice skating rink
VINTAGE SENIOR GIRL FALL/WINTER SENIOR GIRL VINTAGE Old is new again. Thrift shop findings paired with new, retro looking fashions, she mixes different eras for a coherent look. She s not afraid to tuck in her tops, throw on Maryjanes and work an 80 s skirt. café downtown area record shop old factory building in studio on a bridge
TIPS from the pros FOR A SENIOR GIRL Don t forget to consider accessories, an important element of any shoot. Look for layers in jewelry also, including cute, meaningful chains, bracelets, rings and even hair feathers. Consider starting your senior session with professional hair and makeup, either in the studio or at the local salon. Layers done right are slimming and lead the eye away from problem areas. The right combination can totally dress a look up or calm it down and can give that extra pop of color a wardrobe needs. Bring an elastic brown or black belt to cinch dresses and blouses that may look bulky on camera. Dark denim flatters all shapes, sizes and photographs better than distressed or light washes. Statement jewelry speaks volumes about personality. Go all out with a colorful necklace, chandelier earrings or stacked bangle bracelets. Worn with a simple tee or solid tank, the jewelry takes center stage. Create complete, multi-piece looks. Consider purchasing a cropped blazer to throw over pieces you already own and cuff the sleeves for a fresh, tailored look that will keep its modern edge years after photos are taken. Avoid mixing and matching bold patterns and crazy nail polish colors. Stick to one or two patterns per outfit and a nail polish color that won t draw too much attention to your hands. Materials and texture of clothing is another factor to consider. Shiny clothes can be distracting, and clingy clothing is frustrating to continually adjust. Linens and cotton clothing tend to be easy to work with and photograph well. Dress for the season. Clothing choices should match the season of your shoot. A short dress and flip flops will look out of place in the winter. Instead, try pairing that same dress with tall boots, tights and a long sweater. THE STYLE GUIDE SENIOR GIRL TIPS

ATHLETE SENIOR GUY FALL/WINTER SENIOR GUY ATHLETE He s got the hat, whether he s wearing it or not, and a head for comfy, casual clothes that let him move. Look for soft layers, jeans and a polo, his jersey, or team paraphernalia, along with a classic haircut. stadium park urban basketball court golf course football field on a bridge
MOD SENIOR GUY FALL/WINTER SENIOR GUY MOD Clean cut and updated classic, this look entails some oldfashioned sensibility in 40 s-styled trousers and vests, with a surprise of color in accessories, from a hip tie to a pop of color in his socks. train station boardwalk museum book store café urban alley
PREPPY SENIOR GUY FALL/WINTER SENIOR GUY PREPPY Sporting the country club vibe, look for muted, natural colors, layered shirts with collars, boat shoes and soft, leather accessories. He is not looking to achieve trends, his style is all about classic attire. boat marina golf course park on a boat garden on a bridge
GEEK CHIC SENIOR GUY FALL/WINTER SENIOR GUY GEEK CHIC Smart looks means rolled up slacks and a flash of panache in a jacket and playful bow tie. For a more casual look, pair a math humor tee with a cardigan and funky socks. Glasses work the look. computer lab internet café book store boathouse observatory classroom
ROCKSTAR SENIOR GUY FALL/WINTER SENIOR GUY ROCKSTAR Skinny jeans, mussed up hair and worn-looking band tees, he loves his hip colorful sneakers, braided bracelets and layers. He s alternative, probably rocking a skateboard and a fab belt. music shop urban alley freeway underpass skate park downtown area retro car lot
TIPS from the pros FOR A SENIOR GUY Sports jerseys and equipment as well as other hobby related props (bikes, guitars, your skateboard) will add that personal flair to make you stand out, so don t be afraid to bring them along! Dress to your own style but feel free to take it up a notch more than you normally would. This is your time to rock out your outfit. Add an extra layer, like a jacket or vest to give your outfit a more stylized look. Make sure clothes are comfortable enough to move around in. Stay away from clothes that are binding or that restrict movement. Sure, you aren t likely going to the stylist for an updo, but it s still important to go for a haircut 2 weeks before the shoot. It s enough time for the look to grow back slightly to a more comfortable length. Jeans and t-shirts are the quintessential comfy for everyday wear but senior portraits are a time to shine. Take the extra time to pull a collection of outfits together that will really make those portraits special and unique as you are. Spice up the outfit by stepping outside the box. Adding a pop of color to your outfit can really make a photo. Red shoes, a green jacket, a bright scarf or a fun watch are great ways to add color and interest. Avoid head to toe baggy or head to toe logos. Fitted clothing tends to translate better to photos and logos will distract from the main subject - you! Your favorite band t-shirts, funky jackets, jerseys, fun sweatshirts and even hats make for great personality shots - the ones where you re just hanging out, being you. It s always better to pack too many options than too few. Make sure everything is clean and wrinkle free. Dress for the season. Clothing choices should match the season of your shoot. A t-shirt and flip flops will look out of place in the winter. Instead, try pairing the same shirt with a button-up, jeans and your favorite sneakers. THE STYLE GUIDE SENIOR GUY TIPS

Long hemlines with wedges and jackets with patterned shirts and ties show fashion confidence. urban alley rooftop garden walk up stairsteps art museum wine bar downtown area
TRADITIONAL ENGAGEMENT FALL/WINTER ENGAGEMENT TRADITIONAL Classic brands and less blingy, layered, modest looks still bring pops of primary colors mixed with earth tones for down to earth sensibility. Legs are nude and shoes and accessories are at a minimum. the park ice skating rink country club boathouse garden fireplace
CASUAL ENGAGEMENT FALL/WINTER ENGAGEMENT CASUAL Cute and cultured with room to move, layered, comfy looks are punctuated by the occasional accessory, like a cute belt or some swank boots. This look is about soft, fun and functional fashion. tree farm pier vineyard barn log cabin café
HIPSTER ENGAGEMENT FALL/WINTER ENGAGEMENT HIPSTER Clever and creative, skinny jeans, flannel and black leather mesh with urban street smarts for conscientious fashion. Glasses are a statement, and laces on shoes share intricate workings of the socially conscious couple. café train station local farmers market book store urban alley graffiti wall
TIPS from the pros FOR ENGAGEMENTS Don t be afraid to go with a theme, anything that represents couples and their lifestyle - casual, classic, bohemian, formal. Great clothing choices are the most flattering look couples can move in. Stay away from restrictive, overly fussy options. Clothing should be the same level of formality. It s hard to marry a look when one person is all buttoned up and someone else is in sneakers and a t-shirt, unless you re going for the opposites attract vibe. Fitted clothes translate better to photographs than baggy ones. Bring an elastic brown or black belt to cinch dresses and blouses that may look bulky on camera. Try to avoid wearing a lot of white. Not only can white totally wash a person out, it easily picks up pesky color casts, and can blow out the highlights preventing good skin tones. Don t skimp on the accessories. Accessorizing your outfits with things like headbands, hats, jewelry, jackets, and boots can create a very stylized look. Color, texture, and layers are important. Layering it up adds tremendous depth to the photograph. So instead of wearing a shirt and jeans, try adding a scarf, jacket, and some fun accessories. Adding a pop of color to your outfit can really make a photo. Red shoes, a yellow jacket, a bright scarf or a fun piece of jewelry are great ways to add color. Sleeveless shirts, high necklines, turtlenecks and clothes with logos/writing on them don t provide timeless looks like more traditional clothing choices will. Try to coordinate outfits without looking overly matchy. Avoid wearing same colors and instead, find a color palette you love and piece together items from that palette that are complimentary to one another. THE STYLE GUIDE ENGAGEMENT TIPS

TRENDSETTER FAMILIES FALL/WINTER FAMILIES TRENDSETTER Go for earth tones with funky pops of color carried throughout wardrobes for togetherness. Layers are fun and fresh, not too neat, but generously styled to show off colors, patterns and fun footwear and accessories. downtown area museum art sculpture garden boardwalk urban alley train station
TRADITIONAL FAMILIES FALL/WINTER FAMILIES TRADITIONAL Time-honored patterns and traditional colors bring out this classic look. Simple slacks and crisp collared shirts for the guys pair with femine classic-cut layers and heirloom-like ornamentation for the ladies. horse stables tree farm town square carriage ride garden front steps
BOHO FAMILIES FALL/WINTER FAMILIES BOHO Earth-conscious, casual, and socially hip are all ways to characterize this family. Natural, chunky materials in layers punctuate the look. Kids clothing is comfortable and cute, with a mix of retro funk for the adults. the park grove/orchard local farmers market boathouse garden leaf piles
TIPS from the pros FOR FAMILIES Try to coordinate outfits without looking overly matchy. Avoid wearing same colors and instead, find a color palette you love and piece together items from that palette that are complimentary to one another. Add accessories to pump up an un-inspiring ensemble. A hat, scarf, and boho necklace can give a lackluster outfit the right amount of punch and provide great pops of color. Bright hues in small doses are great. Bring toys or other fun items that your kids love. These props will help mark this special time in your kids life and help your child feel at ease during the shoot. Think balloons, kites, umbrellas, dolls or teddy bears. Wear clothes that are fashionable and functional. Kids will need to move around and fussy clothes can be frustrating. Try to have only one patterned outfit for every three people for family shoots. Then dress everyone else with color coordinating looks. Layers are fantastic for boys and for girls. Add in the layers (jackets, vests, leggings, and tights) and accessories (hats, scarves, necktie or bowties, and headbands) to give your kids outfits that stylized look. Dress babies as babies. For anyone under 2 years old, steer clear of collared shirts and jeans as they tend to make the little ones look a lot older. Try onesies for boys and sweet little dresses for girls. Sleeveless shirts, high necklines, turtlenecks and clothes with logos/writing on them don t provide timeless looks like more traditional clothing choices will. Skip the tiny prints and patterns because they do not show up on photos. Big stripes, polkadots, and other graphic patterns look great! Stay away from white or character themed tennis shoes, shoes with bulky soles, or any shoe that takes away from the child and outfit. Solid color shoes and boots are aways best.
