I found this "Salt" a few years ago with a bunch of ashtrays. It was a mess, covered with ashes and tar. A good cleaning revealed a wonderful piece of green glass and a

3 Page 3 of 47 frame that needed only a bit of straightening. The Open Salt Compendium has a similar amber dish in a stand, described as Made in Czechoslovakia, on plate 284. If anyone knows more about it, I m always looking for more information. The framework is very intricate. Although it is salt-size: 3 1/4 inches long, 2 1/2 inches wide and 1 inch high; it is more likely a pin tray. The stand is one of those that usually holds a Mary Gregory type round glass. (I am biding my time for a cobalt one to come along.) In the mean time, it holds this beautiful round intaglio with curved rim and jewels set in that are the same color as the glass. Only every other one is present, but you can't really tell except by touch. This was a gift from a lovely lady and I think of her every time I see it. I don't know if the silver detail is paint or silver deposit, and I'm afraid to try cleaning it because if it's just paint, it might dissolve. 22Debi Raitz :46 PM ET (US)

But really a rose frame on a stag intaglio! I had a lovely dish with a lady playing a harp, and the bush in front of them could be a rose bush. Sometimes I think the glass is the thing that makes the piece, but at other times the frame makes it POP. Yours in green, mine in yellow and I believe Mary Kern has one in pink. The goat cart can travel to Texas anytime. The framework is heavier on this salt than on any other one I have. And, I found the bottom rather uncommon. The craftsman that made them didn t leave a thing undone. This is by far the heaviest of mine as well; even my multiples don't weigh as much as this - but they are more open framework...big difference in the weight of the salts too, even the same intaglio; some of mine are much deeper than others. Yes, Judy, I do have one with the butterfly Intaglio in it, and as soon as I get it out of the cabinet and photographed I will post it here. I think I am most proud of it because I nabbed it for $11. As a new collector, this is one area I have not ventured into (yet). I didn't even know what a multiple holder was until last week when I stumbled across one online that was absolutely gorgeous. I've had salts with this same design, never have seen a box like this one. It's tiny, 2 1/4" X 1 3/4". Frosted patterned frame around the intaglio that seems to float in the medallion. I have a larger amber box with intaglio in the cover that was probably a cigarette box. These tiny ones might have been patch boxes or trinkets as part of a dresser set. I love my tiny one even though one corner is lightly chipped, shows at back left in the photo. Salts that go from one color to another like Burmese, Peachblow, Amberina, Blurina and Rubina. Not cut to clear or cameo types but the glass actually changes color. You can take your pictures ahead of time and be ready! Yes, our MOSS meeting with all the gorgeous Czech glass pieces - intaglios, perfume bottles and other glass - presented by Susie Proctor was wonderful. Sounds like I should consider myself very lucky to have gotten it for under $30, then. There are a few small nicks (typical for an intaglio), but nothing that mars the beauty of this one. 41 Page 41 of 47 Debi, I've never had it done, but I had a jeweled holder with a number of intaglios in it, the type in which they are stacked one upon another rather than having separate frames for each. They were six-sided salts, and someone had previously polished some chipped edges. Some of the chips had been so bad you could still see the damage, but because they stacked and the first couple on top were in very good condition, I thought it helped the looks of the set. I sold it some time ago. I've kept only the cat in a bowler hat in blue in a jeweled holder. I didn't post a photo because I thought surely someone would post that one. Debi 135 Susie P :21 AM ET (US) I have never had a salt touched up by a glass grinder; I know it is expensive - relatively - to repair ghips on my perfumes it is usually $20 or better - and so I would imagine a minimum might be $10-$15? I will ask them and see what they say Jane Koble :20 AM ET (US) I've never had any intaglios ground. Of course, there are no glass grinders anywhere we go anymore, but I'm not sure if I would. Depends on just what the salt looks like, I guess. If they are really badly damaged, you couldn't grind it all away anyway. If the cost is going to double what you pay for the piece, then it's probably not worth it. I just thought some of those elaborate holders deserved to hold perfect little pieces. It might just increase the value by another $15 if the glass was perfect too. I know our guy will be at the show here every year, but I wonder if anyone could just look up glass grinders in their area and find one who is inexpensive.
