LAST CHANCE to submit Entries for the Western Fed Exhibition in Las Vegas 2012 Bring your digital file(s) and completed entry form to Ed Hoag October is just about over and our club has had a great month. The workshop with Carl Purcell was very informative, challenging and loads of fun. He left participants with many techniques to practice and add to our art work, and a fresh way to look at our photographs and compositions. A big Thank you to Carl for generously sharing his expertise and knowledge and to his wife Nan for the delicious shortbread and brownies. Thank you as well to Sharon Menary. Our monthly meeting was also successful with 64 artists in attendance. Members watched as Carl created a beautiful mountain scene demonstrating his unique painting techniques while imparting bits of artistic wisdom and sharing some of his humorous life experiences. Thank you to Sylvia for our Halloween decorations, to all those who brought treats and helped in the kitchen, and to all those who helped set up and tear down the meeting space for the workshop and the Wednesday meeting. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Many of our artists brought paintings for our NVWS fundraiser coordinated by Barbara Yoerg. You will find details of the opening in this edition and she is still accepting paintings. So if you haven t had the chance and would still like to participate, please contact her for information. Our Fall Show opened this month at the West Charleston library and if you haven t had a chance to see it make sure you put it on your schedule. It is a fabulous collection of the work of our membership. Thank you to Vina Curtis for coordinating this event. Additionally, thank you to Dave Mazur who coordinated the paint out at Mt. Charleston which was lots of fun, and Bill Fravel who coordinated the valuable critique sessions on both sides of town. These events were well attended and will continue throughout the year, so please mark your calendars and join us. Fall is here and it s one of my favorite seasons. It reminds me there is a time to slow down and reflect and it entices me to paint using the warm color palette of autumn. So I ve been playing with the reds, oranges, golds, fading greens, and earth tones; it s inviting and comforting. The paint out and hike up at Mt. Charleston put me in the mood (the weather was perfect) and the pumpkin patches around town are helping as well. Great subjects for a fall scene along with the Indian corn, fruits, and vegetables of the harvest. Have you played around with the colors and subjects of the season yet? If not, it s time. I invite you to pull out those paints and create an autumn masterpiece. Hope to see you in November. Barbara Stanton, President November 2011 Nevada Watercolor Society page 1
