The eastern part of the trench revealed a clean natural drift geology. No archaeological features were identified or finds recovered. A single east-west boundary feature was identified in the western trench which was probably evidence of land division in the Late Bronze Age or Early Iron Age. No other deposits or features of archaeological significance were encountered and it was concluded that the development area holds little further potential. Trench one revealed made ground overlying a natural river silt deposit. Trench 2 revealed only made ground. Trench 3 revealed made ground overlying an alluvial deposit. The evidence for the earliest human activity on the site composed of fragments of burnt flint in the Trench 3 organic-rich alluvial deposit. It was therefore believed that this deposit may have represented marshy ground in the immediate vicinity of a prehistoric settlement or other activities. It was recommended the site be assessed for its ability to date and identify the nature of the environment and local human activity. A number of made ground layers were recorded above water lain deposits, the earliest contained pottery dating to the 15th or 16th century. It was evidenced that the site was reclaimed low-lying marsh from the 16th century onwards. This was consistent with the documented history of the site. In each of the trenches the topsoil was removed to reveal natural which consisted of a layer of pinkish brown sandy silt into which no cut features of archaeological significance were revealed.
