Be sure to bring friends and family to enjoy all of the upcoming shows, and take advantage of the workshops offered this year. From the Gallery Director, Laura Reynolds Good news everybody, 2017 is off to a great start! The gallery was closed for a week for maintenance and inventory, but it was worth it. The gallery is looking clean and fresh. I want to personally thank all of our artists who submitted works for the first open show, "Baby, It's Cold Outside". The art is amazing, as always, and I'm super excited about the level of interest the artists and our community are displaying this year. Some 2017 brochures have been printed and are available in the gallery. We will have more in the next week or so, once you have all had an opportunity to look them over and give them a thumbs up. Our next show "Everything Happens for a Reason" will begin February 28th. Thanks again for supporting the gallery and keep up the good works!

Baby, it s Cold Outside! If you haven t been to the gallery recently, do stop in and check out our current display. Here are just a few items on show this month:

Show hours: Saturday, 10am-6pm - Sunday, 10am-5pm New date, same place for 2017! It became apparent that our festival would benefit from being a stand-alone event during the high tourist season. Although we are no longer paired with the Blues Festival, this art festival is scheduled during the busy tourist season in and around the Flathead Valley. We will once again be located in Sacajawea Park with high visibility from the Polson Bay and bridge. This 2-day festival is more stringently juried than the one-day event in August and attracts artists from Montana and the greater northwest region. 46 th ANNUAL SANDPIPER ART FESTIVAL Saturday, August 12, 2017 Show hours: 10am - 5pm Founded in 1971, the Sandpiper Art Festival is a juried, outdoor festival that features fine art and artisan crafts. Gift Shop News - Sue Arneson, Director Now that the Christmas rush is over, it s a new year!! Think about creating something you have never done before or focus your paintings or sculptures on something different. If you ve always painted flowers, try painting animals! You ve always painted fish or done carving, try doing a 3D sculpture, stained glass, or block printing. Try pastels on top of watercolor, try ink with your paints, try embossing a background, try mixing different media to create something unique! If you are like me, I m always trying something new. Now.. I tend to look around at all things, small objects and such, as a possibility for something to do with art. Do you know what I mean? To quote Barb Shrider, watercolor artist, our enthusiasm is contagious!! Pass it on.. Have you looked at the Gift Shop lately? There are a lot of new art pieces and excellent choices for gifts. We hope you ll keep our art gallery in mind when you re looking for that special gift for someone or even treating yourself! As you may or may not realize, we are so proud of each and every artist in our gallery. We ve had many compliments from familiar and new who have entered and are surprised by the excellence of our work. Keep it up! Favorite thoughts Don t worry about your originality. You couldn t get rid of it, even if you wanted to. It will stick with you and show up for better or worse, in spite of all you or anyone else can do. Robert Henri Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the artist. It s a gift to the world and every being in it. Don t cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you ve got! Steven Pressfield Greetings from your Newsletter Editor, Jil Roberts Hello everyone! I am fairly new to the SAG and have enjoyed volunteering in the gallery and now taking on the monthly newsletter. I have met some wonderful artists and patrons over the past year and look forward to getting to know everyone involved in our fabulous gallery. My current art is creating concrete leaves and painting them with a spray or brush. I use real leaves as my mold, so I am busiest in the non-winter months. Over this current winter I have learned pine needle basket weaving and am enjoying that very much. I love being outdoors and can often be seen bringing home pieces of nature with ideas swirling in my head of what I can do with my lovely finds. Please let me know if you have anything you d like to see in future newsletters or have any comments you d like to share about the gallery or newsletter. Thank you for your support!
