objectives 3 The Intensive Course in Jewellery and Bijou Design aims to develop the student s ability, through a variety of well-established design processes, to achieve a graphic representation of successful Bijou and Jewellery capsule collections. The success and uniqueness of this course is due to the combination of fifty years of Italian experience of Jewellery Creation & Design including avant-garde experimentation, using alternative techniques and materials. The design process and the making of prototypes exist in complete synergy and it is this methodology of continuous work and experimentation in progress that results in the optimisation and success of the final product.
who is this course for - duration and attendance 4 Who is this course for This course is for undergraduates, graduates and professionals with some basic knowledge in the field of jewellery and for all those who wish to enhance their cultural and professional knowledge of Jewellery Design and in the field of jewellery/artefact trend, throughout all the production processes, from design to manufacturing. Duration and Attendance 90 hours of lessons and lab work. Saturdays 9.00 18.00 Enrolment to this course is limited. Admission is determined after viewing the candidate s CV.
program 5 The mission of this course is to provide students with versatility and capacity of designing objects whilst responding to a brief, maintaining character and a personal identity within a jewellery collection. This is obtained through learning the following procedures: Free-hand drawing of the bijou in its various types: pendants, rings, necklaces, earrings and brooches. Study of materials: analysing technical and functional characteristics. Students will also look at illustrated examples of how to use these materials in the field of bijou fashion and in classical and contemporary goldsmith s art. Colouring: Rendering a variety of basic typologies of colour. Design Studies: Personalising a bijou collection. Merchandising mix/ selecting what type of Bijou to produce: Students must consider feasibility analysis, suitability to wear, impact on the market, identification of target and clientele. Laboratories: - Methodology of rapid hand prototyping for direction of the project and its creativity. - Wax prototyping (i.e.: sheets of smooth wax, outlines, sculpture and inject wax) for the realisation of objects using fusible metals and investment casting. - Working with plexiglass, acrylic glass, and polyurethane. Students will learn about basic lab techniques (cutting, piercing, filing, finishing and polishing) to be used on alternative metals and materials. - Production of casts and plates for the manufacture of decorative elements by using resin and/or silicone rubber. - Finishing techniques and assemblage of different materials. A tutor, who is a professional practitioner in the field, will guide the designing process. Within the educational program there will be seminars on: Computer design (RHINOCEROS, MATRIX) Gemmology Jewel History Marketing and job counselling
fees 6 Total Fees Euro 3.250,00 + VAT (22%) - (Euro 3.965,00 VAT included) Enrolment fee: Euro 750,00 + VAT (22%) Tuition fee: Euro 2.500,00 + VAT (22%) Certificate of Attendance At the end of the educational program, those students who have attended at least 80% of lessons will receive a certificate of attendance. The students may also, on request, obtain a transcript listing modules attended and an evaluation of their project work.
