COME PARTY ON THE PAVEMENT! - Wr it t en by Dar l ene St er n Several years ago the Kewaskum Chamber of Commerce resurrected a thirty year old tradition. Originally called "Krazy Daze," the event was created to give merchants and business persons an opportunity to clear out seasonal and leftover stock at a huge one day street sale. Customers got bargains and merchants made room for new stock. It didn't take long before restaurants got in on the action, serving food and drink to the hungry shoppers. Soon civic groups took advantage of the potential to raise funds with bake sales or games. Before too long, the day became a village wide social event, with music in the evening at several locations. Seeking to resurrect this one day event to promote local businesses and revive a sense of "The l ar gest par t y in wisconsin on a t uesday" community, the Kewaskum Chamber of Commerce began sponsoring Party on the Pavement in June 2011. Though the popular malls had the advantage of having many and varies businesses in one location under one roof, the appreciation of community was lacking there. Kewaskum had an ideal location to consolidate vendors and businesses for one day in one downtown centralized location at the municipal parking lot, located on the Eisenbahn Recreational Trail in the center of town. The 2014 reconstruction of Highway 28/ Main Street through town will only enhance the ambiance of this street festival. Party on the Pavement's appeal to young and old is undeniable. Food Vendors offer everything from kettle corn to hamburgers and hot dogs to local fudge. Children enjoy the crafts and bouncy house. Adults are drawn by the variety of products for sale(both from local businesses and small vendors) from soap to rugs( and the hugs to go with them) to jewelry to whatever you can imagine. Continuous music from a variety of genres serenade the shoppers, visitors and community throughout the day and is a party at night. There are even carriage rides provided by a local business owner. Everyone gets in on Party on the Pavement! Civic Organizations, community Groups, service groups, individuals and local churches also get in on the festivities. Some provide information on their groups or organizations, some do fund raisers and some provide services like simply offering a word of encouragement. The local radio station broadcasts on site. The beneficiaries are the community and the people. All proceeds from this event are sown back into the community in the form of overhead banners, street beautification and the tourist information gazebo, to name just a few on the benefits. Vendors rent one or more spaces on the parking lot or along the Eisenbahn Trail. Electricity is available for a fee, but all profits the vendors realize are theirs to keep. Advocates say Kewaskum's Party on the Pavement is the largest party in Wisonconsin on a Tuesday. This Year it is scheduled for June 23, 2015 from 10AM to 11PM. Come on over and check it out for yourself!
