This year we got, among others: Greg King, a photographer who specializes in stage performers, teaches workshops, and provides various printing services. He is a valuable source of info in general and seems to be everywhere I go Carmen Myszkowski-Brown, a talented and prolific painter in oils and acrylic. I particularly love her Rose paintings. Sorry I missed your opening Saturday at the BraveArt Gallery in Mount Albert. I was on duty at The Gallery of Pottery and Fine Art.. Where you are both fondly remembered. OK, I know Margot Allen isn t new. But she must have been at one time. And didn t that turn out to be a blessing? Actually, I just thought the picture looked better with her in it. This Month s Demo: Phil Chadwick Phil believes that a fully equipped paradise needs only a quiet back lake, a canoe, art supplies and a fishing rod. He has travelled the width and breadth of Canada. He and his family continue to find little pieces of paradise everywhere in Canada! Trained as a nuclear physicist, Phil found a career in meteorology with Environment Canada in 1976. Phil specializes on severe weather conditions and has been the meteorologist behind the scenes in some very major weather storms. Currently Phil is training meteorologists and completing some research work. Phil is an occasional writer for Harrowsmith and other nature oriented magazines. Weather stories and art, both from a realistic perspective, get into print as often as possible. Phil also does presentations on a wide range of topics from the weather to art, climate change and land stewardship. Phil is also interested in the birds and the bees. As a beekeeper (apiarist) he keeps up to 10 colonies on the family farm. Phil s artworks are depictions of personal experiences. They hang in many private and corporate collections around the globe. Several magazines and calendars have used his work. A passion for creation sums it all up! Try to make things just a bit better than you found them plus you gotta have fun and remember, you gotta laugh! At this month s Demo, Phil will present an illustrated talk entitled Tom Thomson was a Weatherman In this presentation Tom Thomson Was A Weatherman, I concentrate on the art of Tom Thomson to prove that he was indeed a weatherman. The foundation of this proof is the predominance of his art that features weather and sometimes very obscure cloud formations. Tom painted all types of clouds and precipitation. The sky occupies a large portion of most of his creations. PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT: SOYRA endeavours to hire interesting artists for demonstrations and instructors for the workshop series. But when you sign up and do not come the artists still must be paid. Please remember that by signing up for a workshop, you are indicating your intentions to attend and are requested to pay whether or not you attend. Of course, things happen, but please call at least 48 hours in advance to have your name removed from the list and a refund mailed to you. NOTE: some workshops will cost more than others due to the nature of the course, the location or the instructor. SOYRA Happenings April 2009 2
