BRUSH STROKES OF HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, ARKANSAS Website: www.hsvbrushstrokes.com Meeting Minutes for April 14, 2017 The Coronado Center, Room 5 The meeting was called to order by President Marlene Kloack at 9:15 a.m. The minutes for the March 10, 2017 meeting were accepted. Visitors/New Members: Visitors Kitty Harvill and Christoph Hrdina, from Curitiba, Brazil. Kitty has dual residency there and in Arkansas. She is a world renowned nature conservation artist and Christoph is involved in many aspects of nature conservancy in Brazil. They were guests of Maureen Rousseau. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Exhibits: Coronado Book Library: (Linda Shearer) A new display was hung today in the library. Linda thanked Don Pohlman for his assistance. Eileen Stickles needs to pick up her painting. Thanks to everyone who hung today and those who did pick up the previous works. This show will hang for three months. Please notify Linda if you sell your work that is currently hanging so she can brag on you and also be sure to replace it with another painting, as this is your space for three months. Woodlands Membership Show: (Gary Weeter, Chair) We had a great turnout for this show which hangs through April 28th. Please be there at 10:30 am to pick up your work(s) immediately after the Brush Strokes meeting. President Marlene also asked that everyone read the instructions thoroughly, as not doing so puts a burden on those hanging the show. Thanks to all those who showed up to help Gary Weeter hang the show. Thanks to the Palette Pals for the refreshment organization and set-up. It was a well attended show, enjoyed by many. Congratulations to the winners in both amateur and professional divisions. Art on the Courtyard: (Helen Weber and Connie Fagan) April 29th, 5-7 pm. A sign-up sheet was at this meeting. Contact Helen or Connie to reserve your space. A flyer has been designed and will be sent to all members two weeks prior to the event for distribution via email, friends, post at your favorite places, get the word out. Toni Blacks string group will provide music for this event. No spaces will be pre-assigned. First come, first served. Video Library: (June Lamoureux) Let June know, in writing, any videos you would like the club to purchase. jflamoureux@earthlink.net Workshops: (Dana Henry) Ken Call is scheduled to do a watercolor workshop in October. Bob Snider provided a wonderful workshop for two days. Many piece were brought for show and tell by participating members. Bob Snider also arranged to meet participants at Garvan Gardens at 1pm for plein-air painting. Habitat for Humanity: (Chuck Tull) Nothing to report. Arts Council: (Daryl Wedwick) President Marlene advised there will be a 'Dig In' event at Grove Park on May 6th. Face painters are needed for this event. Contact Rita Bond at the arts council if you would like to volunteer. Website: (Pati Trippel) Please email Pati any information, photos, corrections or updates to the website. Marlene is doing a great job on the Brush Strokes Facebook page. Sunshine: (Joy Bordelon) No cards sent. Membership/Nametags: (Lynne Tull) Lynne delivered two nametags to new members, Donna Goodner and Vicki Patterson. If you need a nametag, contact Lynne. Community Fair: (Marlene Kloack) President Marlene reported that there was a good turnout and thanks everyone for signing up and showing up. Thanks to June and Bj for managing the event for the club. Programs: (Tammy McCullough) Tammy suggested painting rocks to be distributed in different locations around HSV. No final plan was in place at the time of this meeting. Publicity: (Tammy McCullough) Art on the Courtyard will be in the newspapers and on the HSV Eblast. Photos are needed of the winners from the Woodlands show. Tammy will contact the recipients to arrange a group photo for publicity.

OLD BUSINESS: Dues are $20 for 2017 and are now due. You may mail your check to Debbie Smith, 35 Lerida Lane, HSV, AR 71909 NEW BUSINESS: Dana Henry suggested that the mirror and stand be donated to the Balboa Art Center once it is up and running. She needs the space in her garage that is housing Brush Strokes items, this being the largest of the lot. President Marlene asked for a motion to be made to do this. It was made and voted on by the members present. The motion passed. Hobby Lobby gift card won by David Blankenship. Painting of the Month-April June Lamoureux ''Tumbling Rocks' Pen and Ink June says it's easy... just draw out your main elements and then just sit down in front of the tv and draw to your hearts' content with your micron pen. Easy peasy! (Right?) Other Entries for Painting of the Month: Marlene Kloack 'Beep-Beep' Watercolor Marlene's travels inspired this cute little roadrunner. Sweet-Sweet!

Dana Henry 'Bat Cave' Acrylic Dana started out doing a plein-air acrylic painting and didn't like it so she just got her palette knife and went to town on it resulting in a stunning work. John Keller 'Moon Bridge, Garvan Gardens' Acrylic John enjoyed doing a different view of the Moon Bridge at Garvan Gardens. Lovely! SHOW and TELL Dana Henry 'Petit Jean' Watercolor Done at a plein-air paint out at Camp Mitchell, Petit Jean Mountain.
