On October 14 Carol Coppi will be teaching hand designs to ESL students along with other volunteers from the Omaha Artists Inc. There will be a reception for the Small Image art show at Esprit Whispering Ridge on October 15th. On October 21st the Fun Shop will feature Linda Bernett where she will teach a class on alcohol inks with a Zentangle twist. Our October 28th Luncheon at Westside Community Center will feature Kim Hawks from Kimba s Touch Pottery. I would like to encourage members to connect on Facebook through our face book page https:// www.facebook.com/omahaartistsinc?fref=ts. It s a good way to promote our shows and to make art connections. Several artists post pictures of work they have done and it can be a fun way to connect. Cost $4.00 members/ $5.00 non member. Please bring snacks to share and a friend. Workshop: Alcohol Inks with a Zentangle Twist with Linda Bernett. Bio: Linda Bernett is a self taught artist. While using alcohol inks on gourds realized the different looks per application. Then experimenting with different techniques and surfaces with alcohol inks has recently started adding zentangle style designs and patterns to some of this work Supplies: Andirondack brand -alcohol inks (at least 3 different colors) 91% or higher isopropanol alcohol 4 sheets Yupo or reusable pallette paper ( approximately 5x7 up to 6x8) no larger Latex gloves cotton balls, white felt pads and or cosmetic sponges Work pad - either thick newspaper multiple layers of absorbent scrap paper Black ultra fine Sharpie, LePen, copic, micron pens 0.5,or colored gel pens (white is nice) Linda will bring extras of these items to share. Oct. begins with our Intro lesson on design using the most basic ingredients our hands, pencils, markers and crayons. October 2015 Page 4 Art Shows and Art Show: Sharon Clawson 402.572.8486 Bio for Judge of 2015 Fall Small Image Show Richard Markoff grew up in Alliance, graduating from Alliance High School before attending Doane College and Chadron State College where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He taught high school art for 37 years in Rocky Ford, Colorado, McCook and at Omaha Northwest. Markoff was a founding member of the Gallery 13 in Omaha in 1985 and has been an active member of the Artists Cooperative Gallery in Omaha s Old Market for many years serving as a board member and on the Hanging Committee and Membership Committee. Additionally he is an associate member of the Burkholder Project in Lincoln. I consider myself a series painter. Having taught school for 37 years, I have had to use different styles of painting in my teaching; therefore I have continued to do so through the years. I paint ten to fifteen paintings per series from surrealism to modern abstract utilizing acrylic and mixed media. I am a stern advocate of art elements and all my judging reflects that belief. RECEPTION FOR THE FALL SMALL IMAGE SHOW: Thursday, October 15, 5-7 p.m. directions for Esprit Whispering Ridge (17555 Emmet Street): a few blocks west of 171st and Maple, turn south on HWS Cleveland Blvd. Go 2 blocks and turn right on Emmet St. - you'll see the sign for Esprit Whispering Ridge Senior Living, the big building and parking lot. There were 21 artists who entered our Fall Small Image Show, with 53 works of art. Art Bridge: Carol Coppi reports loss of volunteers replaced by Linda Hatfield, Linda Bernett and Linda Leary. Example board of past work in classes brought to review. The Art Bridge program teaches art classes as part of the ESL- English as Second Language OPS programs for refugees of Burma, Bhutan, Somalia, and Sudan. This is 13th year and presently has over 60 students, splitting into 2 lessons of 30. Art Reach: Kristina Swanson reported for Sara Wamsat, and advises that the program provides art supplies to the Children s Lied Transplant Center. Gathered at the November Fun Shop/Pot Luck Meeting.
