ILLIN OIS ART LEAGUE A R T N E W S Over 50 Years of Encouraging Original Fine Art! Volume 2015 Issue 10 Art-Shows-Art news-keeping you Informed! October News Publisher: Bev Pullen, 385-2501 bkpullen@hotmail.com Co-Presidents: Leslie Walsh (booklady2404@yahoo.com) Jackie Colgan (tncolgans@comcast.net) Dear Fellow Artists, October already! We hope all of you are working away on your pieces for the Time Gallery Show. You will find forms and information in this newsletter and we hope everyone will take advantage of this opportunity to sell/show their artwork for two months. Our flurry of activity continues. In the month of September we had a member-taught watercolor workshop with Ed Burton. We learned new techniques and a much better way to spatter. Thank you, Ed, for such a fun, informative and productive workshop! In the month of October, on Halloween, we will be having another watercolor workshop taught by Ken Clubb, our Spring Membership Show judge. Then we move into November, on the 2nd, for our annual end-of-the-year dinner at Weaver Ridge Golf Club. You will find information on that in this newsletter also. It will be an evening of good food and camaraderie with fellow artists and friends, so be sure to mark your calendars and get your reservations in! Then we have serious preparations for the art show/sale at Time Gallery. We hope each one of you will participate, in some way, with these events. IAL MEMBER EXHIBITS IAL PEORIA HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY ON GOING MEMBER EXHIBIT Those exhibiting in October are: Phronsie Hart and Inge Brown. Phronsie Hart I have no formal training and DO NOT consider myself AN ARTIST. A better description might be a dime a dozen illustrator. I don t strive for perfection, only to complete a thought through picture. (At 73 it s all about me) If my work gives you a chuckle or makes you think then I m happy. Thanks for looking at hart/art. Inge Brown I was born in Linz, Austria. Several years after the end of WWII, my Mother applied for a visa to immigrate to the United States, which after seven long and tedious years of red tape we received in 1955. Fast forward to the late seventies, at which time my Mother started painting (without any kind of instruction) turning out beautiful work. I was just amazed at her talent, but in my eyes she could do anything. Fifteen years after her death in 1987, I dug out her oil paints, which amazingly were still useable, thinking maybe I should give painting a try. Having retired a few years earlier I thought why not, and fortunately found a class with a great teacher. Well, I was hooked! Unfortunately I did not inherit her natural talent, but have been painting ever since. While I enjoyed painting with oils and acrylics, watercolors always intrigued me, so I took the plunge--an entirely different animal to be sure!! My ultimate goal would be to produce loose, transparent paintings, which to date I have not entirely achieved. I have always been told "it is just a piece of paper" if at first you don't succeed try, try again.
