Introduction The Bachelors in Fashion Marketing and Visual Merchandising share a similar innovative structure that enhances the possibility to have a robust business curriculum for fashion that stimulates creativity and talent while exploring the dichotomies between East and West in terms of strategies for marketing, communication, distribution and branding. Both Bachelors count on a common first year and are intended to be split into two different courses for the second and third year, in order to give a more profound and specific practical knowledge of the preferred specialization, ending to a specific award. The modules offer a systemic training, a constant challenge for all students pacing each specific ability through individual assignments, teamwork and discovery of the industry. The practical application of the theoretical knowledge is warranted by field trips and workshops given by fashion, business, branding and marketing experts. While the course is structured around unique module and learning experiences, the highlight is our faculty of skilled and motivated lecturers who come from more than 20 different countries. This veritable educational melting pot allows the students to benefit from different cultural perspectives which in turns stimulates their propensity to analyze and solve issues in creative and unconventional ways. The 3 years structuring the course correspond to the 3 levels identified within the Higher Education Framework. The course is constructed in compliance with the Bologna Convention principles and grants participants, upon completion, a total of 180 ECTS (60 ECTS per year). 2

Paris School IFA Paris was established in 1982 to combine French fashion heritage with the modern globalized world. As the only school in Paris offering all its undergraduate and postgraduate courses taught in English, IFA Paris caters to a highly international student body from all corners of the world. Recently relocated to 18-24 Quai de la Marne, IFA Paris overlooks the famous canal of Ourcq and is at the heart of the developing 19th arrondissement. The new location has tripled the size of the previous academic facilities and added extensive new amenities to benefit students, including bigger classrooms, a student lounge space, and a resource and study center. The building will also house several new fashion workshop spaces to accommodate hands-on projects. This vibrant and artistic neighborhood is also home to many cultural landmarks, including the MK2 cinemas, Point Ephémère performance space for concerts and ballets, and le CENTQUATRE art centre with a wide range of cultural offerings, exhibits and high-profile fashion shows. The district is also the location of other prestigious schools devoted to creative arts, including École Nationale Supérieure d Architecture de Paris-La Villette (ENSAPLV) and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, and is close to the École Internationale de Création Audiovisuelle et de Réalisation (EICAR). The 19th is emerging as one of the most exciting and stimulating area for students in all of Paris, and IFA Paris is thrilled to become a part of this neighborhood. 4

Florence School As part of its philosophy to provide students with the most up to date and industry relevant academic programs, IFA Paris has crafted a unique Bachelor in Visual Merchandising in collaboration with its Florentine academic partner: Accademia Italiana. Accademia Italiana, founded in 1984, is one of the most prestigious university level institues for fashion, design and photography. It has its headquarters in Florence and in Rome. The Accademia Italiana is the only private fine arts university in Florence and in Tuscany authorized to offer Bachelor degree programs in Fashion, Design and Photography 6 leading to degrees recognized by the MIUR (Italian Ministry of Education - D.M. n. 76 del 04/02/2013 and successive). The Accademia Italiana Rome has the same kind of accreditation. The Accademia Italiana also offers Bachelor s degrees accredited by important universities and institutions, masters programs and short courses. 6

Paris Paris holds a special place at the top of the fashion world. As fashion s birthplace, it introduced some of its most world renowned designers and luxury fashion houses including Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior and Hermes. Paris is still the world s fashion capital and continues to draw attention with important fashion events such as its biannual Prêt à Porter fashion week, fairs and trade shows, fascinating concept stores, and industry leading trend agencies. Consequently, it remains the place where contemporary fashion designers including Martin Margiela, Rick Owens, and Alber Elbaz choose to live and work. In recent history, Paris has turned almost every part of its economy into luxury through fashion, jewelry, beauty care as well as gastronomy, wine and travel. Paris remains an essential stop for young fashion and luxury professionals who wish to understand the cultural, industrial and market forces that shape the fashion world today. Pont Alexandre III and the Invalides Florence Historically known as the center of the Renaissance, Florence grew in the twentieth century to become one of the world s fashion capitals. Just as painting, sculpture and thought once grew, the modern fashion industry also came of age in Florence, as the home to some of fashion s brightest stars. The names that have defined the Florence style, Guccio Gucci, Emilio Pucci, Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo, are among the biggest in all fashion. The influence of these designers and their labels has circled the globe many times over and has continued to make Florence a bustling center of fashion design. The Ponte Vecchio Old Bridge 8 9

Teaching and Learning Methodology IFA aims to provide a fully inclusive educational experience for all students that prepares them for the possibility of an international fashion-related career and travel, and communication with others across cultural and language divides. All bachelor level classes are taught in English. Students are primarily taught in studio like rooms that simulate the working environments of Fashion industry design rooms and offices. Learning activities develop the process of reflective learning and problem-solving and of patience in working across language barriers. At IFA we guide students to gradually become more self-actuating and proactive and to learn the skills and methodologies that will help them negotiate the work and research demands of their future workplaces. Students are encouraged to be flexible, resourceful, socially co-operative and culturally aware of the relevance of global events and market trends. Tasks are set at levels of being achievable and satisfying at each stage, whilst demonstrating individual creativity and capacity. In practice, there is a balance of direct class and face-to-face learning, guided study and personal study time, together with expectations for homework assignments. For those students who do not ultimately wish to be working in the Fashion Industry, the core skills and attributes developed on the program will equip them to take up a broad range of marketing and retail business career, or to progress a specialism further by studying at postgraduate level. 11
