This week s 16-hour, online-only sale focuses on more categories, including home and jewelry, while it focused only on kids styles last year. JCPenney is running fewer promotions than it did during this week last year. The retailer is promoting 10 new deals every day for six days. Last year, it ran more sales, which included home and back-to-school promotions. Kohl s is offering a longer-running Kohl s Charge promotion than it did during this week last year. This year, for the first time ever, the retailer is also promoting a Converse sale. This week, Macy s is running promotional sales comparable to last year s. However, the retailer is not focusing on backto-school sales this year. 1
Week of August 7, 2016 US PROMO YOY HIGHLIGHTS RETAILER 2016 2015 GOLD MEDAL SAVINGS This week, CVS is offering sales on soft drinks and bottled water. Household items such as paper towels and detergents are also on sale. A year ago, CVS ran a sale on health products, including fish oil and calcium capsules. The retailer also promoted L Oréal, Revlon and Maybelline cosmetics. BACK-TO-SCHOOL SALE This week, Kmart is promoting a back-to-school sale on notebooks, pencils, character backpacks and kids footwear. The retailer is also offering sales on suncare products, bath towels and soft drinks. Last year, Kmart offered a similar back-to-school sale on notebooks, pencils, fashion backpacks, family athletic footwear, and juniors and young men s graphic tees. The retailer also promoted bed pillows, detergent and bottled water. CRAZY COOL This week, Target is running a sale of up to 30% off on all kids size 4 16 apparel and selected backpacks. Last year during this week, Target offered a back-to-school sale that featured notebooks, note pads, markers, pencils and glue sticks. 2
