Dusty s Workbench --Researching Leather -- the RawHide Gazette CD Way Meeting is two weeks early on Sunday, June 10th. Last Meeting Before the Summer Break You can bring anything that you would bring to a picnic. A salad (potato, macaroni, or a green) cupcakes was a hit last year. I always bring a BIG bowl of macaroni salad. Chips and dip. Did you see how everyone was eating the chips and dip at the meeting? When you bring something make a bunch of it. Remember you have to share what ever you bring. The co-op gets the hamburger, hot-dogs and ALL of the trimmings. This is the first year for the yard sale. It doesn't have to be things that you made but it could. This sale is if you have some tools that you no longer use and want to sale it bring it to the meeting put a price on all of the stuff and sell it and the money is yours. You make the sale and you keep the money...good idea huh? Only leather related items no hide-a-beds or clothing ect ect... Also you don't need to bring table or chairs but if you want to have an easy chair or lounge you will have to bring that. There is a yard and a patio and the patio is in the shade in the afternoon. By the way bring the family. Your kids might meet other Meeting Announcement Mark your calendar! The next meeting, Yard Sale and Bar-B-Que will be Sunday, June 10th Club house opens at 10am and Bar-B-Que around 1-2pm Location: Woody s place, see map on last page LAST MEETING BEFORE THE SUMMER BREAK kids their age. The May Meeting Report On the day of the meeting, Sunday May 20th, it was such a nice day that Woody didn't think anyone would show up. Well we had a nice showing of members. However better yet we had 2 new members show up. I want to welcome Jim Farrell and Joe Wheeler. We would also like to welcome Jackie Holliday from Idaho. Woody met her at the Robb Barr class in Spokane. That isn't bad 3 new member in one month. We changed the date for the 1st ever Yard Sale and BBQ. We all agreed that June 10th is going to be the date for that FUN event. I hope that the weatherman delivers a day just like last Sunday. He came into the meeting with his arms full of Stohlman books autographed by Ann Stohlman and Peter Main. He also had a frame that was leather covered. While at Sheridan he attained a class to learn the leather covered frame technique. He has to completed the corners and hasn't tooled the leather on the frame. He told the group that he isn't going to tool the cover until he knows what is going be framed. After the meeting Fred Nachbar and Ken Imus gave a demo on lacing. Sheridan I flew low in my motor home and arrived in Sheridan, WY two days after I left Tacoma, WA. I was in a hurry to see the King Museum and to get to the Leather Craft & Saddlers Journal Show at the Holliday Inn. As I was going through the doors to the museum it was like I was walking into Ann and Al Stohlman's Shop. At least how I would think their shop would be like. Everything that Al and Ann made was on display. I got my camera out and started to click away. The free BBQ Thursday night was crowded and was in the King's Leather Museum and shops. They barbecued outside and had a big banquet inside. Then there was the LC&SJ show -- there was a lot more booths than were at Pendleton. It was spread out into a couple different sections. I was happy to finely meet Ann Stohlman and talk to Peter Main once again. I took some pictures down there to show Ann. Pictures of Bill Churchill s birthday and of Peter Main when he came to our meeting in 1999. Dusty gave me the pictures to show Ann and Peter as well as orders to buy the Stohlman book and have it autographed. Which I did. Len Madison was there for the same reason to buy a Stohlman book for some of the members who were unable to make the trip. All in all I had a nice time at Sheridan. When immersing the leather for shaping or forming, add 8 oz. PRO-CARV to 3 gallons of water. NO CASING IS NECESSARY Leather can be immersed or sponged with this solution. PRO-CARV eliminates the need to case leather. PRO-CARV allows you to begin working with the leather after immersing for 3-5 minutes because of the very rapid penetration into even the thickest hide. Allow the surface to dry somewhat before beginning forming or carving. Researching Leather -- the RawHide Gazette CD Way I'm sure everyone has seen the Rawhide Gazette CD's. When I first saw the CD I couldn't see how I could use it, but I had to have one anyway. I can't tell you how many times I have gone to it and look things up. Now I'm convinced that it is a neat tool to have. When I wrote my first article the Rawhide Gazette had 2 pages with no pictures. I wrote an article about "Block Dying Dusty Style". I have had a few members ask for my article and I'm so pleased that I don't have to tell them that I lost the article. I looked up an article for a former customer of Bill's and e-mailed it to her. She was having problems with dying and antiquing and so I sent my article, "Block Dying Dusty Style". She was pleased that I could help her. I then sent some of the articles that Bill wrote that I thought that she would like to read. I bought a little knife and wanted to make a sheath for it. So I looked up Bill's knife case and up came January 1998. I was able to make a little Quick Draw Holder for the knife. Sometimes I will just roam through the different issues. Sometime I find an article that makes me laugh and sometimes I find an article with a project that I reminds me that I was going to do -- someday. If you have a computer the CD is a must. You can purchase the CD from Ken or Hidecrafters. By the way the Old hands on the CD are Bill Churchill s and the Young hands are Krysta s, my granddaughter. Dusty Wert From a New Member: I have seen it (the RawHide Gazette CD) advertised in Hidecrafters, but am new to all of this electronic info stuff. Overwhelming starting to get the hang of it, it's improving my typing skills which are very rusty. Joined the IILG, and a member told me about you and gave me your web site. I liked your web site because it's very "human", down to earth, then I met Woody in Spokane and he talked about all the things you guys are doing with the kids and I let everything else go here to teach the kids, trying to give them a good start so they get hooked, maybe some day we could do something over here with the kids that you are doing (like at the fair). If we can get some people involved at this end. Don't know what is all involved but I would be interested in being an extension of PSLAC. Hope I phrased that right. Got my issue yesterday and really went threw it, I just love it. I probably need to get the disk. Jackie Holliday June 2001 --HideSide 9 The Leathercraft Store Offering a Discount to PSLAC Members
